Colombia’s president says South Africa’s legal team should get a Nobel Peace Prize for prosecuting Israel at The Hague.
Gustavo Petro is a staunch defender of the Palestinians - and one of Latin America’s loudest critic of Israel’s war, branding Tel Aviv’s actions as comparable to those of Nazi Germany.
Other Latin American countries have also shown solidarity with the Palestinians - for example, Bolivia severed diplomatic ties and Chile recalled its ambassador. Meanwhile, Cuba doesn't recognise Israel as a state and Venezuela broke all diplomatic ties with Israel, in 2009.
Do you think Pretoria’s ‘heroes’ - as they’ve been widely hailed - deserve the Nobel Peace Prize?

MORSI DOWNFALL AND BRITISH MONEY
Reuters claims to be a neutral unbiased source of news, but leaks reveal the outlet collaborated with the UK Foreign Office and British intelligence to help trigger the counter-revolution in Egypt after 2011. And Egypt’s democracy is not the only victim of such sinister strategies.

NESTLÉ'S FORMER CEO: 'WATER NOT HUMAN RIGHT'
Here's a short yet important breakdown of how the Nestlé company has come to own profitable water brands by pumping millions of gallons of water from the ground. Is it a surprise, then, that its CEO does not consider water a human right?
While lead contamination and Legionella bacteria affected thousands of mostly Black people in the US state of Michigan, Nestlé has been pumping the state's water as part of what has been dubbed 'The Great Water Grab.'
If you're curious to learn more, watch our investigation by Salifu Mack, released back in December, that digs into the Flint water crisis. You can find it on all of our social media pages.

WHY DOES WEST LOVE GOFUND-ING RACIST KILLERS?
Whether it’s Trayvon Martin’s shooter or French teen Nahel Merzouk’s - it seems White racist killers can count on solidarity in the form of millions of dollars in GoFundMe donations. African Stream’s Brenda breaks it down.

IS THE UN LOSING LEGITIMACY?
The United Nations has failed to secure civilian life in Gaza, as well as the lives of dozens of its workers killed by Israeli bombardment. One could argue the UN hasn’t fulfilled its original purpose because it has a long list of failures in Africa and around the world. As such, African Stream questions the legitimacy of an institution, while its Security Council remains unreformed and states, such as Israel, continue to disregard international law.
Let us know what you think about the UN.

One man's freedom fighter is another's terrorist. Our choice of 'Facts of the Week' this week centre on the label of 'terrorist' in Africa and elsewhere. We look back at how, once upon a time, Osama Bin Laden was described as ‘an anti-Soviet warrior’ but Nelson Mandela a 'terrorist.' Make it make sense. Let us know what you think in the comments.

SOUTH AFRICA’S BIOWEAPONS DOCTOR WALKS FREE
The horrific story of chemical warfare waged against Southern Africa remains largely unknown. Many of the players involved confessed their crimes in 1996 to the South African Truth and Reconciliation Commission (TRC), after apartheid legally ended.
However, Dr. Wouter Basson, the longstanding director of Project Coast, South Africa’s chemical and biological weapons program, did not confess, despite the testimony of 153 witnesses—including some of his colleagues—against him. Then Judge Willie Hartzenberg tossed out a 2002 murder case against Basson. Today, nearly everyone involved in this crime against humanity has not faced legal consequences.
In more recent times, other apartheid-era institutions have been accused of biological warfare, including the South African Institute for Maritime Research.

WHAT WOULD AFRICAN DEMOCRACY LOOK LIKE?
'Democracy' was coined by the West and has been used as cover for subverting people's processes on the African continent. That's what PLO Lumumba said at the 7th National Security Symposium, held several years ago in Kigali, Rwanda. The Pan-Africanists questioned whether Western-style democracy works in Africa. Lumumba called upon African countries to choose a system that aligns with their values, culture and people. He further explained that African democracy must be defined by African people, ourselves.
Let us know what you think of Lumumba's remarks.

FARRAKHAN: DON'T POLICE AFRICA
For decades, the United States has portrayed itself as a beacon of good governance, democracy and human rights. However, it also has imposed itself as the moral police of the world, quick to point fingers at other countries that it accuses of corruption or for not abiding by the so-called 'rules-based order.' Favourite targets usually include countries in the Global South, such as Nigeria, which some Western media outlets and organisations have labelled as one of the most corrupt countries.
While corruption certainly exists in Nigeria, according to many, including Nation of Islam leader Minister Louis Farrakhan, only one country contends for the noscript of the 'most corrupt in the world.'
In this now-viral 1996 interview with the US news program, '60 Minutes,' Farrakhan challenged US hypocrisy in judging Nigeria. He said the West African country is a young state working to overcome its challenges.
