WHITE JESUS MUST PACK HIS BAGS AND GO

It’s time for Africans to start asking uncomfortable questions, according to renowned Pan-Africanist Joshua Maponga. And that includes scrutinising what Abrahamic religions have brought to our continent. In his view, ‘White Jesus should pack his bags and go home’.

Mr Maponga was speaking on the Zimbabwean podcast The Denny J Show. To back up his line of thinking, he said if the Chinese colonised Africa, we would be Buddhists. Therefore, Africans proclaiming they’re Christians, even though it’s the ‘colonisers’ religion, doesn’t make sense, especially as very few Africans follow the Ethiopian Orthodox Church (328 AD). That predates the European Roman Catholic Church and Protestant Church founded in 590 AD, which the colonisers brought and weaponised.

Is Mr Maponga talking sense, or is he taking things too far? Let us know in the comments.

From more Kenyan troops arriving in Haiti to an assassination attempt on Donald Trump in the U.S. to a school tragedy in Nigeria, here’s our weekly photo dump.

Port-au-Prince, Haiti—More Kenyan police officers join a UN-backed mission to ‘restore order’ on the Caribbean island.

Nairobi, Kenya – A demonstrator kicks a tear gas canister fired by police during protests against President William Ruto. He’s been forced to axe unpopular IMF-backed tax hikes and faces calls for his resignation.

Butler, United States – Former U.S. President Donald Trump survives an assassination attempt at a campaign rally. We do not agree with any form of violence, but it is worth noting that Trump was the man who described us as s***hole countries. It’s also worth remembering Malcolm X characterised the John F Kennedy assassination as ‘chickens coming home to roost’.

Continued…. Jos, Nigeria – Rescue workers stand next to the rubble of a school which collapsed, killing at least 16 students at Saint Academy. The incident occurred in the Jos North district of Plateau State.

Victoria Island, Nigeria – Mixed martial arts champion Sadibou Sy leads the launch of the Professional Fighters League in Africa.

Gedaref, Sudan – Internally displaced Sudanese children attend classes in a makeshift open-air classroom at a refugee camp. The country’s ongoing conflict has triggered one of the worst humanitarian crises in recent history, according to the UN.

New York, United States – Senator Bob Menendez is found guilty of corruption at a federal trial. He was convicted on all counts, including using political influence to benefit Egypt in exchange for personal gain..The FBI found gold bars at his home and $400,000 cash.

ADVANCED AFRICANS ASTONISHED’ COLONISERS

What would you say if we asked you to describe what Africa looked like 500 years ago? Western narratives push the propaganda that European imperialists found a continent full of barbarism and poverty.

In this clip, author Robin Walker bulldozes that crude caricature and cites the work of German author Leo Frobenius. His book, Histoire de la civilisation africaine, paints a very different picture, with European settlers astonished by what they found. Rich cultures, powerful empires and rulers, diverse languages and lands abundant with resources.

Frobenius was born in Germany in the late 19th century and specialised in African cultures, leading 12 expeditions to the continent. His work helped spread knowledge of West African art and culture through Europe.

Continued….. Well, we think it’s still worth spreading, as does Robin Walkers, who wrote the book ‘When We Ruled’ which documents the development of indigenous African populations and civilisations.

MALI F.M.: NO TO ECOWAS

Burkina Faso, Mali and Niger announced their departure from the Economic Community of West African States (ECOWAS) on 28 January.

This decision came in response to ECOWAS’s sanctions and opposition to the military governments that had overthrown Western-aligned leaders over the past few years. The three states disagreed with ECOWAS on handling counter-terrorism and governance in the arid Sahel region they occupy south of the Sahara Desert.

Continued….. During a recent interview with US state-run Voice of America (VOA), Mali’s former minister of foreign affairs, Abdoulaye Diop, said the decision to leave ECOWAS was irrevocable and each state’s new leadership aims to pursue a shared political, security and economic agenda under the newly established Alliance of Sahel States confederation. The decision to team up had more to do with building unity amongst themselves than denouncing ECOWAS. They also wished to pursue their shared goals without the constraints they said ECOWAS imposed as a Western-influenced regional bloc. They also seek new alliances and partnerships that better align with their interests and priorities.

An estimated 65-million people practice Vodou worldwide, and it’s one of Africa’s oldest traditional religions. However, it’s often viewed with suspicion in the West due to negative Hollywood stereotyping that makes Africans groan. Links with the occult, human sacrifice, black magic, witchcraft and Satanism, are all pushed.

In reality, it has rich cultural and spiritual significance and has a thriving presence in many parts of the world. It’s the official religion of Benin and Haiti and is practiced widely in Togo, parts of Nigeria, Louisiana, New Orleans, Cuba, Brazil, Puerto Rico, and the Dominican Republic.

Our facts of the week show how deep-seated racism has maligned Vodou since colonialists first landed on Africa’s shores.

WHITE PSYCHOLOGY CAN’T EXPLAIN BLACK PSYCHE

There’s long been concern over White psychology being used to produce misleading and prejudicial conceptions about Black people.

Psychologist Mamie Phipps Clark (1917-1983) found many Black children in America who were told they had a disability or learning problem were wrongly diagnosed due to biased psychological testing.

Joseph L White published a seminal article in Ebony magazine in 1970, called ‘Toward a Black Psychology.’ It highlighted how White psychology pushed flawed narratives that Black people were ‘lacking’ or ‘less than’ and failed to address their unique experiences and perspectives.

Continued……In this 1982 clip, the late Dr. Amos Wilson lays out why the Black psyche cannot be understood through a Eurocentric viewpoint.

It’s an issue that spurred the launch of The Association of Black Psychologists in America in 1968. It aims to boost the mental health of the national Black community and has over 1,400 members. Important work and an important issue. Give us your thoughts and experiences below.

RACE AND IQ AN IDEOLOGICAL WEAPON

Although race science or scientific racism has been repeatedly debunked, the idea that certain races are inherently more intelligent than others is as far-fetched as it is ignorant.

A 1977 New York Times article sensationally claimed Blacks have below average IQs which is why many fall below the poverty line. But that was discredited by US political commentator, Noam Chomsky, who pushed back against such offensive thinking.

Here, he explains that if environmental factors are equalised and socio-economic disparities removed, then IQ differences disappear. The supposed science of race is at least as old as slavery and colonialism, and it was considered conventional wisdom in many Western countries, until recently.

In apartheid South Africa, the idea that each race had its own characteristics and intellectual ability was part of the justification for the system of exploitative white rule. Ultimately, race and intelligence have deeper layers than the mere colour of skin.

PT. 4: FORMER CIA AGENT SPILLS ON WAR AGAINST THIRD WORLD

This former CIA agent, John Stockwell, has revealed CIA crimes against humanity that most people may find unbelievable. In this 1988 clip, he said a CIA operation in Afghanistan created the ‘Golden Crescent,’ the world’s centre for illicit opium production.

The 2001 US invasion of Afghanistan devastated the lives of millions as the US carpet-bombed the country, k*lling thousands of men, women, and children. The poppy and heroin trades became the cornerstone of the Afghan economy. Under US Central Command head John Abizaid, Afghanistan’s poppy fields grew from 4,163 acres to 510,766 acres, and production of opium increased from 40 metric tons to 5,000 metric tons of opium.
