Continued.....Arguably, the most important wing of liberation is mental decolonisation, as it is from this that all other actions result. Emancipation from mental slavery cannot be achieved without a strong footing to renew the mind. That strong footing for Africans is African history; understanding where we have been and how we arrived at our current reality to know where we are heading and shape tomorrow’s current.

16th BRICS+ SUMMIT IN KAZAN, RUSSIA

Russian President Vladimir Putin rolled out the red carpet to 19 heads of state from 9 members of BRIC+, along with representatives of more than 30 countries that have either formally applied to join or expressed their interest, to the 16th Summit in the southwestern city of Kazan, Russia. The 3-day Summit aims to galvanise multipolarity as a counterweight to US hegemony. A key issue is the roll-out of an alternative payment system that will challenge the US dollar and Western economic monopoly.

As a marker of shifting global governance away from the so-called 'rules-based order', days before the Kazan Summit, China and India reached an amicable agreement over their long-running border dispute. And there are already ongoing strategic projects, such as China's Belt and Road Initiative and the Saudi-Iran rapprochement, brokered by Beijing. UN Secretary-General António Guterres is also in attendance.

Continued.......The BRICS bloc gained much more clout in the global economy in January when 4 new strategically important nations officially joined - Iran,
Egypt, Ethiopia, and the United Arab Emirates. Saudi Arabia remains non-committal, and Argentina withdrew after the election of Western-leaning President Javier Milei.

BRICS+ has some pretty impressive stats:

- 44% of the world's crude oil production

- 46% of the world's population

- 37.3% of global GDP (based on purchasing power parity)

As the Western-led financial world sanctions itself into oblivion, the future - as Malcolm X said - "belongs to those who prepare for it today."

ANGOLA ACCUSES M23 OF CEASEFIRE BREACH IN RARE MOVE

Angola has accused Rwanda-backed M23 rebels of violating a ceasefire in the eastern Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC), which had been in place since early August following mediation efforts by Angola.
A statement issued by the Angolan government condemned the M23's seizure of the town of Kalembe in North Kivu province on Sunday as a "flagrant violation" of the truce.
It warned that this act jeopardises ongoing peace efforts to resolve the conflict in the region, which has been marked by violence between various armed groups.
👍93
Continued......On Sunday, fighting broke out between heavily armed M23 rebels and the Wazalendo militia, a government-aligned group, leading to the occupation of Kalembe by M23 forces.
Residents reported that the Wazalendo were pushed out of the town by the M23, but Marcellin Shenkuku, a spokesperson for the Wazalendo, later claimed that the militia regained control.
The involvement of the official Congolese military in the fighting was not confirmed. Clashes between M23 and government-aligned militias are frequent, though rarely addressed in official statements from governments, thus making Angola's statement all the more significant.

North Kivu, rich in minerals such as gold, coltan, and diamonds, has been at the centre of conflict for decades. The M23 has seized significant territory in eastern DRC since launching an offensive in 2021, displacing thousands and worsening the humanitarian crisis. UN figures put the displaced people at around 2.6 million as of the end of September.
The rebel group has also been accused of committing serious war crimes such as rape and forced recruitment of civilians, including children.
Various organisations, including the UN, have accused neighbouring Rwanda of providing M23 with weapons and soldiers.
In July, a report by the UN Security Council's group of experts revealed that between 3000 and 4000 Rwandan soldiers have fought alongside M23 rebels in the DRC.

SHOCKING PIERS MORGAN STATEMENTS

British broadcaster Piers Morgan has made a name for himself for his combative interviewing style and controversial remarks on his show. He's hosted numerous guests and debated over some of the world's high-wattage talking points- such as Israel's ongoing military onslaught on Gaza and the Russia-Ukraine war, among other topics.
We zero in on three of his most outrageous statements recently- on the debunked beheaded babies story, western hypocrisy on genocide ( western allies are not held to account, apparently), and the casual dismissal of Ukrainian casualties as "good" as long as it helps weaken Russia, even if it means fighting to the last Ukrainian.

Which other shocking remarks by Piers have you come across?

BRICS ALTERNATIVE TO WESTERN HEGEMONY

For centuries, Western powers have held sway over the global political and economic system, often at the expense of the Global South, leading to significant disparities and injustices.
The world's leading financial and political institutions have been under their ambit. This power has been frequently abused to impose unilateral sanctions on governments and countries that have taken policy positions that went against those of the Western powers.
This has led to Global South nations seeking alternative organisations that not only give them a better chance of economic development but also shield them from the bullying tactics of the Global North.
In this clip, Patricia Mantula, CEO of GSQ Media House, a media entity dedicated to amplifying the voices of women in the Global South, argues that BRICS+, an intergovernmental organisation comprising Brazil, Russia, India, China, South Africa, Iran, Egypt, Ethiopia, and the United Arab Emirates offers that alternative.
👍249😁1
Continued......Speaking at the ongoing BRICS+ summit in Kazan, Russia, Mantula pointed out that the organisation is marked by diversity and tolerance, a testament to its inclusive nature. By leveraging the global south's resources, BRICS can ensure development worldwide, a departure from decades of Western neo-colonialism.
Have a watch, and let us know what you think.

Zambia gained its independence on this day in 1964.

However, Zambia's journey to liberation has set it apart from most African countries because it broke free from a private British firm that had colonised its territories and invited Brits to settle the land.

The British South African Company (BSAC) was headquartered in London and run by imperialist John Cecil Rhodes (1853-1902), former prime minister of the Cape Colony in what is now South Africa. In 1899, the British government allowed BSAC to acquire and administer territories in South-Central Africa north of the Limpopo River, allowing Rhodes to control an area covering modern-day Malawi, Zambia and Zimbabwe. He ruled it until 1923, when the region became a British protectorate.

With its vast copper and cobalt reserves, Northern Rhodesia—now known as Zambia—grew as a mining economy. By the 1930s, the industry employed thousands of British settlers and Africans, inadvertently catalysing the independence struggle.
🤔87👍6
Continued......In 1935, Zambia's history sharply pivoted when thousands of African miners initiated a strike over reduced wages and a colonial 'native tax.' This protest, though short-lived due to a violent crackdown, marked a pivotal moment in the struggle for independence.

However, it was the first form of organised pressure against the colonial government and gave rise to trade unions, which became resistance movements. The most prominent was the Northern Rhodesia African National Congress (NRANC), the political home of anti-colonial leaders such as Godwin Lewanika (1907-77), Harry Mwaanga Nkumbula (1916-83) and Kenneth Kaunda (1924-2021). However, the United National Independence Party (UNIP), which broke away from NRANC in 1959, would lead Zambia to independence in October 1964. Kaunda was UNIP's leader, and the teacher-turned-politician became the country's first president.

Squabbles and infighting have continued to rock South Africa's Government of National Unity (GNU) due to fundamental differences in policy positions of the two largest parties in the coalition, the African National Congress (ANC) and the Democratic Alliance (DA).

The latest round involves the country's diplomatic relations with Russia. At a meeting on the sidelines of the ongoing BRICS summit in Russia, South African President Cyril Ramaphosa told his Russian counterpart, Vladimir Putin, that Pretoria considers Moscow a 'valued friend' and a 'valued ally.'

This statement did not sit well with the DA, a fierce critic of the ANC until July, when it went into a coalition with the ANC and eight other parties.

DA leader John Steenhuisen, also the country's agriculture minister, said his party does not consider Russia an ally, disagreeing with Ramaphosa's statement.
👍5🤬41
Continued......He claimed it could 'jeopardise international relations and trade opportunities.' He also decried that Ramaphosa had not consulted his coalition partners before issuing the statement.

However, the ANC has come to Ramaphosa's defence. Party Deputy Secretary-General Nomvula Mokonyane argued that Steenhuisen does not understand how the coalition works. Mokonyane said the agreement between the parties showed Ramaphosa did not need to consult the DA regarding foreign policy issues.

In the last few weeks, the DA and the ANC have clashed over various policy matters, including health and labour laws. Many worry about the coalition's instability, which they see as a marriage of convenience between parties with significant fundamental differences on almost every issue. The DA has historically taken a pro-West capitalist stance, while the ANC leans towards Global South organisations and allies. For instance, in 2023, the DA ridiculed BRICS as a mere 'talk-shop' unlikely to benefit South Africa.

BRITISH SOLDIERS BUY SEX DESPITE MILITARY BAN

The UK military’s 2022 ‘zero tolerance’ policy on s*xual exploitation abroad has failed at preventing soldiers from paying for s*x and abusing local women, especially in Kenya, according to British news outlet openDemocracy. Despite the UK Ministry of Defence stating no military personnel who were investigated were found to have violated this policy, openDemocracy’s Freedom of Information (FOI) request forced open the ministry's records, which showed it had dismissed 184 soldiers for s*xual offences since 2022.
😈8🤬43
Continued......Still, local women, particularly in Kenya, find it nearly impossible to bring claims forward or win justice because of British ‘sovereignty’ and lack of jurisdiction to pursue charges. Esther Nkoji, whose 21-year-old aunt was allegedly k*lled by British soldiers, described the military’s actions as a form of neo-colonialism, where African women are marginalised and unable to seek justice. An ITV documentary exposed that soldiers admit to continuing this behaviour, viewing the transactional s*x ban as a ‘grey area.’ For the decades before the ban, between 1965 and 2001, Amnesty International estimated 650 r*pe cases in the Samburu and Umoja regions.

Globally, British military personnel have been implicated in s*xual crimes and misconduct in various countries with no accountability.

INTREPID SOMALI SCHOLAR-FARMER MURDERED

Many in Somalia are shocked by reports of masked gunmen k*lling Amun Abdullahi, a Somali scholar, journalist and agricultural entrepreneur.

The incident reportedly occurred on 19 October at her farm in the township of Afgooye, 30 kilometres northwest of the capital, Mogadishu.
Social media users have speculated Abdullahi was in the crosshairs of al-Shabaab because of a 2009 exposé she produced for Swedish TV about the group's undercover recruitment programme in the Stockholm suburb of Rinkeby.
😡13🙏4👍21💔1
Continued......Abdullahi sought asylum in Sweden in 1992 and worked at Radio Sweden's Somali language department for many years. While in Sweden, she acquired an education in modern agricultural practices. Upon her return to Somalia, she started a farm called 'Abdule-Biroole,' drilled a water borehole and obtained heavy farm machinery. Some speculated that Abdullahi teaching farming skills to locals significantly reduced their dependency, threatening NGOs that rely on foreign aid to operate.
