MALCOLM X: I'M NOT AMERICAN
Many of our followers ask why we refer to our kin in the U.S as Africans in America instead of African-Americans. Malcolm X can shed some light here.

Scotland, historically linked to the European slave trade, finds its modern fishing fleets stained by echoes of this dark legacy that haunts vulnerable African workers today.
Two Ghanaian seafarers were freed from abusive working conditions aboard a Scottish fishing vessel on 5 November. Their freedom followed the arrest of two Scottish nationals, both charged with human-trafficking offences. The arrests exposed how the Scotsmen subjected the Ghanaian fishermen to inhumane conditions, denial of fundamental rights, threats of violence, low wages and forced labour, reminiscent of Scotland's historical links to slavery, whereby Scottish slave traders exploited African lives for profit. Centuries later, securing justice for African seafarers remains a challenge, as the same systemic inequities and oversight gaps that once enabled historical injustices now create a modern-day struggle for migrant workers seeking protection.

The US has scrapped a huge chunk of Somalia’s debt. The deal was signed between the US ambassador and the Somali finance minister on Tuesday. Mogadishu still owes Washington billions, though. Is this act of charity a thank-you for turning a blind eye to the ‘collateral damage‘ US drone strikes have inflicted on the troubled nation? And did the US stop short of cancelling the rest of the debt to make sure it has enough leverage to carry on its drone war there?

RUTO WANTS UN HELP ON HAITI
Kenyan President William Ruto announced on X on 7 November that he is meeting with US Secretary of State Antony Blinken to work on converting the US-backed Multinational Security Support Mission into a UN peacekeeping mission. The conversation comes more than a month after China and Russia rejected the possibility at the UN Security Council.
Kenya deployed 400 police officers to Haiti in June as part of a US-backed effort to address ‘gang violence,’ and under the guise of it being a ‘moral’ duty and a gesture of ‘Pan-Africanism.’ Yet, critics argue the deployment merely advances US interests under the guise of humanitarianism. A UN expert highlighted that the mission lacks essential equipment, such as helicopters, night vision goggles and drones.

Continued......China’s UN representative argued the US-backed international security mission needs more time to establish itself, as a peacekeeping operation is not a magic pill. Previous UN interventions have wreaked havoc for Haitians, involving s*xual abuse, civilian executions, and at least 10,000 deaths as a result of peacekeepers contaminating Haiti’s water with sewerage. Additionally, the US and French history of destabilising Haiti have contributed to the dysfunction in the Caribbean country that shares an island with the Dominican Republic.

AFRICAN REMAINS DISRESPECTED IN U.S.
Prestigious Ivy League universities, such as Princeton, Harvard, and the University of Pennsylvania, and the most prominent US museum, the Smithsonian, look in cahoots with gravediggers. These institutions of higher learning have warehoused the human remains, skeletons, and skulls of Indigenous and African people without obtaining the consent of formerly living or surviving family members.
For example, when the Philadelphia police air-bombed the MOVE organisation's home in 1985—destroying over 60 rowhomes as the ensuing fire spread—the burnt human remains of two of the 11 victims—14-year-old Tree Africa and 12-year-old Delisha Africa—wound up at the University of Pennsylvania's Museum of Archaeology and Anthropology.

'This is how they see Africa,' Burkina Faso President Ibrahim Traoré recently said about Western colonisers' relationship with Africans. 'For them, Africans belong to them.' If you examine this story, it is hard to disagree with his statement.

Western leaders have a long history of racist remarks when dealing with their African counterparts. Biden, Trump, and Macron are all guilty. And every time, the media - after a perfunctory bit of pearl-clutching - lets them get away with it. We’ve collected some especially egregious cases from the recent and not-so-recent political past. With Trump back in the White House, we expect to add more examples to this list in the coming months.
