Sociobiology was considered a controversial discipline during its early years, but like the theory of natural selection itself, it became a fundamental part of the study of social behavior. Since its beginnings, with social insects,the sociobiological approach has always brought new arguments and generated theories that have resulted in several classic studies of animal behavior, and even a new important area of study. Despite all the progress that has been made since Darwin, the study of the biological basis of social behavior still has great potential to cause relevant transformations in science. This essay defines Sociobiology, reveals its history and speculates part of its future.
