Studies on atrazine have alternately confirmed and disproved the carcinogenicity of the compound and to date it is not classified as a certain carcinogen, although it has been proven in the course of several tests that the substance causes damage to the ovary of hamsters[4]. It is also feared for its endocrine disruptor effects. Studies in amphibians [5] would seem to confirm the interference of atrazine on the balance of the sex hormones of these animals even at very low concentrations, causing a feminization of male subjects.
