I worked at Wallgreen years ago as an shift lead manager when they rolled out a campaign that EVERY employee, after EVERY SINGLE interaction, we were expected to say, "be well," to the customer.

So I sat through this half-hour presentation with some voice-over of an elderly woman reading a supposed real letter from a customer saying how touched she was when a pharmacist told her to "be well."

This inspired some female midwit corpo manager to start this "branded greeting" campaign, and now here I am sat after listening to this vapid, soulless shit being asked if we had any questions, and the first one that popped into my mind was, "so we need to say BE WELL even to customer we KNOW are dying cause we sell them their terminal cancer meds."

If we had a camera on that room, it would have been viral. You could immedaly feel the tension from all the low-level boot lickers who clearly saw this retail corporate track as their future and would never rock the boat questioning an already launched corporate campaign. The presenters got red in the face and mad awkward, and you could tell that it was my nobody ass who was the first person to pop that question in the entire QA process.

They gave me some nonsense bs answer and made it clear that, yes, it was a non-negotiable policy. Every employee must say it every time, and they were gonna have secret shoppers going around making sure.

Well wouldn't you know it, after a slew of public backlash about how awkward and inauthentic it was that EVERY employee said it EVERY time they quietly dropped the whole thing within 6 months.

The corporate world is a disassociated nightmare and I'm glad I was only in it a few years.
