Frequently Asked Questions (FAQ)
1. Why is the campaign being run only on the Open Collective? Open Collective is built for open source projects like App Manager. Unlike other popular alternatives such as Patreon, it is also privacy friendly. However, I have decided against multiple platforms because it would cause confusion and might attract fraudsters.
2. Can I donate anonymously? Open Source Collective supports guest donations where you can use a temporary email address in the email section.
3. Where will the funding be spent? The funding will be spent on buying new hardware, a domain, increasing my focus on open source projects in general by getting rid of other commitments, sending small gifts to the contributors and so on. Open Collective has an updates section where you will be able to see how the funding are being spent.
4. Would you accept recurring donations after the campaign? If the campaign goes well, I will accept any donations for App Manager. In any case, you can still donate me via my page on Open Collective.
5. I want to provide funding from my organisation. Can I contribute here? Yes, you can. However, if you are willing to contribute a large sum of money, you might want to contact me first.
6. Does App Manager support bounties? No. App Manager only accepts donations. Features are prioritised according to the developer’s current state of mind.

NOTICE.
App Manager v3.0.0 alpha01 (or any future release in the v3.x.x lineup) does not support the use of Accessibility on most devices as specified in the corresponding commit message. Hence, in the unsupported devices, if you have enabled accessibility through Android settings and try to, for example, clear cache of an app, App Manager may simply crash. This is done deliberately to prevent unwanted behaviour such as looping over the App Info pages in Android settings.

What can you do to add support for your device? If you know how to investigate an Android APK/Dex files, investigate the strings used in Android settings APK, especially those strings used in the App Info pages i.e. the pages containing force-stop, disable, clear cache/data, etc. and create a new issue in App Manager’s GitHub page.

Funding App Manager, 2022 Background All the projects I work on are hobby projects. However, with a growing number of users and requests since its release in May 2020, App Manager has become more than a hobby project. It currently has 181,000 lines of code…
The funding campaign for this year has been ended today. Thanks to those who have contributed to App Manager with money in these trying times when the inflation is sky rocketing in most parts of the world. I would also like to thank those who wanted to contribute to App Manager with money but unable to do so due to such a short interval and to everybody who loves App Manager so much that they constantly share it in the social platforms (and help others).

I would also like to point out that you can contribute to App Manager in many other ways such as creating good issues, translating or proofreading documentations, or even helping us secure a funding for the project. We particularly emphasize on translating and proofreading App Manager documentation which is the heart of the project.

Lastly, Eid mubarak to all who have been fasting in the month of Ramadan!

Notice regarding release candidates.

The purpose of release candidates (RC) is to discover new issues that might have been left out accidentally. There will be two weeks of interval between the two RCs. A new RC will be released after this period provided new issues have been discovered.

For starters, here are the currently known issues that may or may not be fixed in the v3.0.0 stable release:

1. The application does not start when recovering a working or other profile
2. App Manager randomly crashing on startup
3. Backup fails for the apps with huge size
4. Material Design 2 swiches are still used (depends on Google’s Material Components library)
5. Encryption key generation is not working in Android lollipop
6. Permissions tabs are crashing in Android 13 (and a few other devices)
7. App Manager is crashing in App Info tab (requires logs which the users facing it didn’t provide till now)
8. Crashing in the Intent Interceptor page (requires device’s framework.jar which the users facing it didn’t provide till now)
9. App Manager (in root mode) is crashing while trying to load an instant app (requires investigation/logs)

Honouring the works of Marcel Bokhorst (M66B)

Those looking for making their Android phone more private have definitely used applications such as FairEmail, NetGuard or XPrivacyLua. Among them, FairEmail was one of the most frequently updated applications I have ever seen. It clearly demonstrated Marcel's dedication towards the app and its community. NetGuard was the first app that I have ever used when I was first introduced to privacy a couple of years ago, and as stated in the Telegram group (when it existed) and indicated in one of the issues, was one of the inspirations for me. However, I came to learn today that the entire batch of applications have been discontinued due to the malicious treatment by Google (which is increasingly becoming a SkyNet for its increasing reliance on artificial intelligence and a team of reviewers both of which lacks any intelligence) and, consequently, some people of the community who have started complaining as they failed to understand the underlying issues.

As a great admirer of @M66B's works, I appreciate the efforts he has made (which were greatly undervalued) and the services that he provided to the open source and privacy community in general, and I wish the wellbeing of him and his family.
