The Project

RESCUER aims to design and develop a First-Responder-centered technology toolkit that will empower the next-generation of First Responders (FR) by enhancing their operational capacity and safety, specifically in adverse conditions, both environmental and infrastructure-wise. Adopting the “HERO” (enHanced nEw eRa first respOnder) concept, RESCUER will deliver a toolkit offering (1) sense augmentation through enhanced sensorial input, (2) precise and infrastructure-less self positioning, (3) cognitive support and multi-sense AR interfaces, improving their focus and capability to utilise information and (4) robust ad-hoc intra-team communications for both verbal and data exchanges, all delivered over enhanced power and communication autonomy features.

Extending the above capabilities, through the concept of a building black box, RESCUER will also introduce the capability of extracting environment information “in situ and infrastructure-wise”, during a disaster. The project will achieve these goals using lightweight, non-obtrusive, and natural interaction with devices and sensors that offer additional information layers augmenting human sensing and operational capabilities, rendering FRs better aware of their surrounding conditions and able to make fast and efficient decisions to remain safe in the line of duty.

Postdoctoral position in computer vision and machine learning

We have an immediate postdoc opening at the Scientific Computing and Imaging Institute at the University of Utah to work on temporal 3D scene reconstruction from thermal imaging. We will investigate the use of machine learning, neural networks, intra- and inter-scene information as well as fusion with visible imagery. We are working jointly with a local company (https://www.elphel.com) that specializes in multi-sensor, multi-camera systems. This will initially be a 15 month position with the possibility of extension up to 3 years depending on availability of funding.

Required qualifications:

Your responsibilities
The UNIL, in collaboration with FORS, offers a postdoctoral researcher position in the area of sociology with a strong focus on quantitative methods and survey methodology. The post-doc will be strongly involved in the International Social Survey programme (ISSP) which collects annually data across 42 countries worldwide on several topics. The post-doc will have the opportunity to work on methodological issues around a global data collection, considering a broad line of topics ranging from the monitoring of data quality and comparability to issues such as non-response, attrition and measurement quality. The post-doc should also contribute to the development and implementation of new, innovative projects in this area collaboratively with colleagues from LINES and FORS.

The post-doc position will structurally be part of the LINES research centre and the person appointed will be expected to collaborate with members of the survey teams at FORS. The position will also offer the opportunity to develop a personal research agenda using FORS (ideally ISSP) data (50% of working time).

Researcher in Federated Learning (IHU Strasbourg)

About the group

The research group CAMMA at IHU Strasbourg is looking for a researcher in machine learning. The successful candidate will perform research in federated learning for medical data to develop generalizable and efficient ML (e.g., self-supervision, domain shift, improved data utility detection). The candidate must have a PhD in computer science with background in machine learning and have demonstrated his research abilities with peer-reviewed publications in top conferences and journals (e.g. CVPR, ICLR, MICCAI, etc.). The ideal candidate has proven experience in Federated Learning through publication(s) and/or code (e.g. Github). Background in medical data (e.g., imaging, health records, genomics, etc.) is a plus but not a requirement. The candidate will have the opportunity to work with a multidisciplinary team of researchers and clinicians in France and Europe and shape research. In parallel, they will also have the chance to work together with top industry partners through MLCommons to develop better tools for medical AI and thus gain major visibility. CLINNOVA is a European initiative of the Greater Region (http://www.granderegion.net/) which groups together French region Grand Est, Belgian Federation Wallonia-Brussels and Ostbelgien, German Saarland and Rhineland-Palatinate as well as the Grand Duchy of Luxembourg. CLINNOVA project aims at unlocking the potential of Artificial Intelligence (AI) and data science in healthcare, with the ambition to establish a European standard model, which is sovereign, open, and interoperable. The overall goal of CLINNOVA is to enable data-driven health environment for AI solutions, which is based both on infrastructure investment and coordination between clinical players. The initiative aims to create a federated infrastructure of large prospective normalized multimodal medical data (e.g., biobanking, imaging) between participating institutes with a focus on autoimmune, inflammatory and cancer diseases. Research and development of AI algorithms on this massive amount of federated data is a unique exciting opportunity from computer science and clinical perspectives.

The Computational Neuroscience group of Klaus Pawelzik invites applications for an open Ph.D. student / Postdoc position (E13 TV-L 100% for 3 years; all genders welcome) in the project "Efficient Implementation of Spike-by-Spike Neural Networks using Stochastic and Approximative Techniques". We are looking for a person with a strong background in mathematics, programming, and machine learning as well as an intense interest in neuroscience. Someone who is not afraid of cooperating with engineers, since this is a joint project with a focus on hardware development.

The overarching goal of our project is to improve the efficiency of spiking artificial neural networks using hardware and algorithmic approximation techniques. Specifically, the project focuses on Spike-by-Spike networks since they offer a balance between computational requirements and biological-realism which keeps the advantages of the biological networks while enabling a compact technical realization. To fully take advantage of the unique features of SbS in terms of robustness and sparseness, dedicated hardware architectures are required.

You would join in with numerical simulations, theoretical analyses, as well as through the development of new ideas and approaches for boosting the performance and capabilities of the Spike-By-Spike model. Furthermore, you would also work on combining Spike-By-Spike networks with non spiking deep neuronal networks into hybrid models.
