PhD or post-doc position
Tip Induced Redox Chemistry and Synthesis
Ref. 2021_043
We offer a PhD candidate position or a post doctoral fellowship. The main objective is to explore on-surface synthesis by atom manipulation, that is, deliberately forming and breaking bonds between individual molecules using the tip of a combined scanning tunneling microscope (STM) and atomic force microscope (AFM), in particular on insulating surfaces. Novel molecules and molecular networks will be created and studied by ultra-high resolution STM and AFM. Charge attachment and transfer in the systems created will be studied.
The start-date for this position is between 1 January and 1 June 2022.
Qualifications
Applicants are expected to hold a master's degree or PhD in Physics or a related field and be fluent in English (written and spoken). Beneficial but not mandatory for this job is expertise in ultra-high vacuum systems, scanning probe microscopy and density functional theory calculations. We are looking for candidates with excellent general knowledge in physics and surface science.
