Job Posting for Cornell University Postdoc in social and community neuroscience
Dear all,

Please see the post for a new postdoc position in my lab. We are looking forward to adding a member and getting some COVID-delayed projects off the ground.

Thank you!

-Marlen

------------------

The Life History Lab at Cornell University is hiring a Postdoctoral Associate to work on the lab’s behavioral and MRI projects. This individual will also help with the activities of the Community Neuroscience Initiative run from the Bronfenbrenner Center for Translational Science. Individuals from underrepresented groups in STEM and those committed to equity are highly encouraged to apply. This is a one-year position with the possibility of renewal for a second year.

The Life History Lab is led by Dr. Marlen Z Gonzalez. LHL examines mechanisms of social determinants of health through a social and community neuroscience lens. We study how physical and social affordances calibrate neural systems and behaviors especially as they relate to social and affective processes in adolescence and adulthood. The lab collects behavioral, survey, psychophysiological, geographic information system, genetic, and MRI data.

The Community Neuroscience Initiative (CNI) is a program directed by Dr. Gonzalez which seeks to democratize neuroscience towards community empowerment. The initiative focuses on providing neuroeducation to educators and students, providing consultations for community-serving organizations, and promoting community using art and neuroscience. Our programming predominantly focuses on Syracuse NY and some traveling is possible.

Responsibilities: The post-doctoral associate will predominantly work on data analysis and manunoscript preparation for already collected multi-echo fMRI and behavioral data as well as help establish newer projects. They will also help in the training of RAs and graduate students in data collection and analysis and grant preparation as needed. There will be some opportunity to develop new projects based on data already collected or in the process of data collection. New data collection may be possible given careful consideration and feasibility. The post-doctoral scholar must have a start-up mindset ready to tackle different technical challenges as they arise. This includes feeling comfortable troubleshooting MRI-safe data collection apparatuses (with some supervision) and setting up documentation for other trainees. CNI duties will be generally less common but include developing dissemination materials and engaging with community members on neuroscience topics relevant to the community. The postdoctoral student may enhance or limit their engagement with CNI projects depending on their goals.

Required experience and skills:

· PhD in Psychology, Neuroscience, or other related field

Strong quantitative analytical skills
Experience with structural and functional MRI data analysis
Scripting in BASH, Python, and/ or MATLAB
Ability to work independently and in teams
Preferred experience:

Working with non-student/ community populations
Citizen science or community based participatory research experience
Experience with acquiring and analyzing ABCD data
Provide names and email addresses of three references as part of the application process.

Candidates can apply through academic jobs online using this link. You can also email Dr. Gonzalez (mzg5@cornell.edu) with your CV or research interests if you would like some clarification before applying. Applications will be reviewed on a rolling basis until the role is filled. Start date is negotiable, but earlier is preferred.

PhD position in Aging, Psychopathology & 7T

We are seeking a motivated and enthusiastic Ph.D. student to join the lab in Fall 2022, or early 2023, to help better understand the emotional and brain changes that occur in aging. In our group (PI: Maryam Ziaei) we aim to explore how individual differences in cognitive functions and biological markers influence brain networks involved in processing social and emotional cues. We are currently running a multi-component, comprehensive study to explore biological, neural, and behavioral responses to social and emotional cues using the 7T scanner. The successful candidate has a chance to bring new ideas or join the existing projects in the aging and emotional domains.

We are located in a Nobel-awarded Institute, Kavli Institute for Systems Neuroscience, in Trondheim, Norway. There is a lot to offer both from the scientific point of view and lifestyle factors in Norway.

Application link: PhD Candidate at Kavli Institute for Systems Neuroscience (230713) | NTNU - Norwegian University of Science and Technology (jobbnorge.no)

Deadline: 2nd October 2022

Please contact Dr. Maryam Ziaei (maryam.ziaei@ntnu.no) if you have further questions about this position.

Would appreciate it if you spread the word!
