"The most convincing proof that home-educated children develop normally is a conversation with a home-educated child who's bright, engaged, polite, interesting, and outgoing. ... Taking the child out of school doesn't mean you're going to remove him from the other "agents of socialization" that surround him. Furthermore, think about the type of socialization that takes place in school. ... This type of socialization may be damaging. Thirty years ago, Cornell Professor of Child Development Urie Bronfenbrenner warned that the "socially isolated, age-graded peer group" created a damaging dependency in which middle school students relied on their classmates for approval, direction, and affection. He warned that if parents, other adults, and older children continued to be absent from the active daily life of younger children, we could expect "alienation, indifference, antagonism, and violence on the part of the younger generation."
Peer dependence is dangerous. When a child is desperate to fit in--to receive acceptance from those who surround him all day, every day--he may defy your rules, go against his own conscience, or even break the law.
... The antidote for peer-centered socialization is to make the family the basic unit for socialization--the center of the child's experience. The family should be the place where real things happen, where there is a true interest in each other, acceptance, patience, and peace, as far as is possible.
... In our society, children, taught by their peer groups, learn to survive, not to live with kindness and grace. ... The trend in our culture is to devalue--even bypass--the family as a basic unit of socialization. Members of Ordo Atlantica met up for our second tri-provincial maritime hike. There is a certain magic in the air when these men congregate. When we are among our Folk, we are emboldened to challenge ourselves and attain greater heights. We are given a new, noble impetus - an iron dream that cannot be denied. A dream of a beautiful, secure future for our Folk.
Our crew is only growing larger, our momentum perpetually increasing. Shared blood and heritage anchor us to an unshakeable foundation that will stand the test of time.

Decalogue of the Fascist Family (1939)

1. The family is the first cell of the race. Individuals alone represent only scattered atoms, perhaps capable of living, but incapable of making and transmitting life.
2. The family is the unit of measure of the nation's material and moral power; it is the people reduced to its minimum divisor. Below that there is nothing except the individual. The individual, even if he numbers in the millions, is neither the people nor history.
3. The Fascist State rejects the principle of the nation as a group of citizens; it conceives the nation only as a group of families.
4. The young citizen has nothing but duties; and the first duty is to create the family. Once the family is made, you begin to accrue rights.
5. We must abandon the old "bourgeois" concept, according to which it is necessary to achieve a so-called "high position" in society first, before thinking about starting a family. According to this logic the poor should never marry. Instead, the Fascist State can prevent people from attaining high positions if they have not started a family yet: this is a good social, racial and moral measure.
6. The family does not start with marriage; it starts with the birth of the first child.
7. The family is the State in its tiniest expression; it is a miniature guild.
8. Man's first and highest responsibility is the responsibility of the family; as the head of the family, he is the first and highest hierarch of the race.
9. The family is the sanctuary and the altar of the race; love is its religion and its light.
10. When we speak of the family, we must add the word "Fascist"; this adjective completes and guarantees the noun.
