Muharram Important dates
Shaykh al-Islam Ibn Taymiyah (رحمه الله ) said:

Because of the killing of al-Husayn (رضي الله عنه ), shaytaan caused the people to introduce two innovations:

▪️1️⃣) the innovation of mourning and wailing on the day of ‘Ashoora’, by slapping the cheeks, weeping, and reciting eulogies.

2️⃣) and the innovation of rejoicing and celebrating.

So some introduced mourning and others introduced celebration, so they regarded the day of ‘Ashoora’ as a day for wearing kohl, doing ghusl, spending on the family and making special foods.

▪️And every innovation is a going astray. None of the four imams of the Muslims or any other (scholars) regarded either of these things as mustahabb.

End quote from Minhaaj al-Sunnah (4/554).

Aisha reported: The Prophet, peace and blessings be upon him, said, “Verily, every human being among the children of Adam was created with three hundred and sixty joints. Whoever exalts Allah, praises Allah, declares Allah is one, glorifies Allah, removes a rock from the roads of people, or a thorn, or a bone from the roads of people, and enjoins good and forbids evil by the number of those joints, he will walk on that day delivering himself from the Hellfire.”

What would you do if you were told you had 5 months to live? Or 5 weeks? or 5 days? Or 5 hours.

The reality is many of us have less time than that.

Sit with this thought.
Reflect on it deeply.

Would you increase in istighfar?
Would you write or rewrite your will?
Would you forgive someone?
Would you make amends with a past friend or cousin or sibling or parents?
Would you sit with your Quran more?
Would you keep saying your shahada?
Would you write letters to your children?
Would you record a video for your loved ones?
Would you give more in charity?
Would you start praying tahajjud?
Would you book that Umrah?
Would you increase in sending salawat?
Would you increase in dua?

“O Friend, the cloth from which your burial shroud will be cut may have already reached the market and you remain unaware.”
-Imam Al-Ghazali (ra)

Life is fragile and death is our collective reality. Don't forget this.

📚 Abu Musa reported: The Prophet, peace and blessings be upon him, said, “Whoever loves to meet Allah, Allah loves to meet him. Whoever hates to meet Allah, Allah hates to meet him.”
[Sahih Bukhari]

🤲 Ya Allah give us the ranks of martyrs even if we die in the comfort of our beds and let our final deeds be the deeds most pleasing to you - Allahumma ameen.

📚 Sahl ibn Hunayf reported:
The Prophet, peace and blessings be upon him, said, “Whoever honestly asks Allah for martyrdom, Allah will grant him martyrdom even if he dies in his own bed.”

Advice of Sufyān Al-Thawrī (رحمه الله) to ʿAlī Ibn Al-Ḥasan As-Sulamī:

Your companion should be the one who prevents you from being preoccupied with things of the worldly life that will divert you from Allāh, and one who makes you desire and work for the Hereafter.

Beware of accompanying people who make the dunyah their goal, those who are engrossed in speaking about the worldly life; indeed they will corrupt your religion and your heart.

Remember death much, and seek a lot of forgiveness from what has passed of your sins, and ask Allāh for safety for what remains of your life.

Narrated Abdullah bin Amr (RA): The Prophet (ﷺ) never used bad language neither a "Fahish nor a Mutafahish. He used to say "The best amongst you are those who have the best manners and character."

(Sahih al-Bukhari 3559, Book 61, Hadith 68)

Avoid obscene and bad language, even though it is easy to hear and mimic, especially in today's times. Protect your ears, tongue and heart, hold fast to the Sunnah of our Prophet (SAW) and only speak that which is good, remember Allah often and perfect your character. You can do it!

The worst fitnah

‘Amir reported: Hudhayfah, may Allah be pleased with him, was asked,

“Which trial is the worst?”

Hudhayfah said,

“It is when good and evil are before you and you do not know which of them to follow.”

People would automatically stop complaining about the problems which they face in their daily lives when they start contemplating on the saying of the Prophet صلى الله عليه وسلم:

قَدَّرَ اللَّهُ، وَمَا شَاءَ فَعَلَ

Abu Hurairah رضي الله عنه reported: The Messenger of Allaah صلى الله عليه وسلم said: “A strong believer is better and dearer to Allaah than a weak one, and both are good. Adhere to that which is beneficial for you. Keep asking Allaah for help and do not refrain from it. If you are afflicted in any way, do not say: 'If I had taken this or that step, it would have resulted into such and such,' but say only:

قَدَّرَ اللَّهُ، وَمَا شَاءَ فَعَلَ

Qaddar-Allaahu, wa maa shaa’ fal

‘Allaah has Decreed, and what He wills He does.' The word 'if' opens the gates of satanic thoughts". [Sunan Ibn Maajah]

In Saheeh Muslim, the wordings are:

قَدَرُ اللهِ وَمَا شَاءَ فَعَلَ

Qadar-ullaahi, wa maa shaa’ fa
l

'It is the Decree of Allaah, and what He wills He does.'

How many tyrants has this earth not seen?

How many came and were destroyed, and now they are forgotten, never to be spoken of?

If the tyrants of today think they will live forever, then tyrants more powerful than them perished yesterday.

The case against them is being built by The Lord above the seven heavens, The One whom no person can flee from.

So where are you going? You came from dust and you will return to dust and in between you carry your own excrement in your stomach.

This is a day we remember what became of tyrants in the past. It is a day of hope.
I know my Lord who sent Musa as a destroyer of tyrants will be sending a Musa for every tyrant. For every matter there is a fixed decree.

I ask Allah to destroy every arrogant tyrant on the face of the earth. Those who say "i am your god" by either speech or action. Those who stand in the way of Allah, hindering people on that path. Those persecute, imprison and kill the righteous slaves of Allah. May their end be that of the symbol of tyranny, Al Fir'awn.

Sh. 'Abdur-Razzāq al-Badr Hafiẓahullāh mentioned that an old man came to him and said: 'O Shaykh I have not memorised anything (of Qur’ān) except for Sūrah al-Fātiḥah and Sūrah al-Ikhlāṣ and I stand in prayer every night for 2 hours.', then he began to cry and asked: 'O Shaykh is it permissible for me to keep repeating them (2 Suwar in every prayer)?',

Sh. 'Abdur-Razzāq al-Badr said: 'Look at this one and his 'Ibādah and look at the one who has memorised all of the Qur’an yet he sleeps until Fajr prayer.'

🚫He is not one of us who strikes his cheeks🚫

What the Shia do on ‘Ashoora’ of beating their chests, slapping their cheeks, striking their shoulders with chains and cutting their heads with swords to let the blood flow are all innovations that have no basis in Islam.

Al-Bukhaari (1294) and Muslim (103) narrated that ‘Abd-Allaah ibn Mas’ood (may Allaah be pleased with him) said: The Prophet (sallallahu 'alayhi wasallam) said:
“He is not one of us who strikes his cheeks, rends his garment, or cries with the cry of the Jaahiliyyah.”

So, will you seek revenge or pardon?

Now listen to what will make it easy for your soul to implement this. Know! You have sins between you and your Lord, and you fear the result of those sins and you hope He will pardon and forgive you. Not only do you want Him to forgive you, you desire that He honors you and gives you good above what you are hoping for. Thus, if you desire this from your Lord despite your sins, then you should deal with the evil of the creation in a similar manner so that Allāh will deal with you like this. The reward is similar to the action. As you deal with the people with their harm towards you, Allāh will deal with you and your sins. So, will you seek revenge or pardon? As you do to others, it will be done to you. You will be treated just like you treat the creation. Whoever ponders this will find it easy to do good towards those who harm him.

The more I see this dunya and the more I notice the people of this duniya, the greater my love and understanding is for this particular hadith.

📚 ❝This world is cursed and what is in it is cursed, except the remembrance of Allah (dhikr) and what is conducive to that, or one who has knowledge or who acquires knowledge.❞
- Prophet Muhammad ﷺ
[Tirmidhi]

The only time I find true peace is when I am listening to a lecture, or taking some Quran notes, or fixing my tajweed or learning a new aspect of our deen.

Literally everything else feels unnecessary.

There are some beautiful points that are being highlighted in this short and simple hadith.

1️⃣ This world (i.e. the material world) is "cursed" (mal'ūn). This does not mean the world is inherently evil, but rather that it is a temporary abode that can distract from the eternal life of the hereafter if one becomes overly attached to it.

2️⃣ Everything "in it" (fīhā) is also "cursed" - this suggests that material possessions, wealth, status, and other worldly pursuits can become a source of temptation and hinder one's spiritual development if not kept in proper perspective.

3️⃣ The exceptions to this "curse" are:
a) The remembrance of Allah (dhikr) - engaging in acts that keep one mindful of and connected to Allah.

THE
BEST
REMEMBRANCE
IS
THE QURAN

b) That which is conducive to dhikr - righteous deeds, knowledge, and pursuits that aid in spiritual growth.

c) Those who possess knowledge (ʿilm) or are seeking to acquire it.

Although the scholars have emphasized that this hadith does not mean the world itself is evil, but rather that one's attachment to it can become a hindrance.

The key, the takeaway, the lesson is to engage with the world in moderation, using its resources and opportunities to draw closer to Allah and prepare for the eternal life of the hereafter.

📚 Abdullah ibn Mas’ud (ra) reported:
The Messenger of Allah, ﷺ laid down upon a reed mat and it left marks on his side. When he woke up, I started wiping his side, and I said, “O Messenger of Allah, why do you not let us spread something on top of this mat for you?”

The Prophet ﷺ said, “What is the world to me? What am I to the world? Verily, the parable of myself and this world is that of a rider who seeks shade under a tree, then he moves on and leaves it behind.”
[Musnad Imam Ahmad]

🤲 Ya Allah don't make dunya my greatest concern and keep me sincere in my pursuit of knowledge - ameen!
