Be in this world as if you are a stranger or passer

Shaikh Salih al-Fawzan حفظه الله تعالی said :

"A stranger is someone who is not in his homeland, so he does not feel comfortable and at ease, and does not desire to remain, rather he is always in preparation to leave and return to his homeland.

This World is not the homeland of the Muslim, rather his residence is Paradise, and he is only in this World to perform his actions for the Hereafter. Hence, he takes what he needs from this World to aid him upon worship but does not become attached to it, since it will not last, the World will come to an end.

"And People are not exactly similar, the reality is that ignorance is like (different levels of) darknesses, and ignorance is from the greatest calamity and trial, especially when Allaah grants and favours you with an opportunity in your life for you to learn (Islamic knowledge), you instead spend your entire lifetime in enjoying your worldly physical existence, this is what (true and great) loss is."

Ibn Rajab رحمه:

One of the scholars of old lived to be more than a hundred years old, still enjoying strength and sharpness of intellect. One day he leapt extremely high in the air.

He was criticized for doing so, and he said: 'These limbs, we safeguarded them from sins in our youth, thus, Allah has safeguarded them for us in old age.'

In contrast, one of the Salaf saw an elderly man begging of the people, and he said: 'This person squandered (the rights of) Allah in his youth, therefore Allah has made him to be lost in his old age.

Deeds Which Are Equal To The Reward Of Hajj

Abu Umamah narrated that the Messenger of Allaah [ﷺ] said:

«مَنْ خَرَجَ مِنْ بَيْتِهِ مُتَطَهِّرًا إِلَى صَلَاةٍ مَكْتُوبَةٍ فَأَجْرُهُ كَأَجْرِ الْحَاجِّ الْمُحْرِمِ، وَمَنْ خَرَجَ إِلَى تَسْبِيحِ الضُّحَى لَا يَنْصِبُهُ إِلَّا إِيَّاهُ فَأَجْرُهُ كَأَجْرِ الْمُعْتَمِرِ، وَصَلَاةٌ عَلَى أَثَرِ صَلَاةٍ لَا لَغْوَ بَيْنَهُمَا كِتَابٌ فِي عِلِّيِّينَ.‏»

❝Whoever leaves his home having Wudu going to pray the obligatory prayer then his reward is equal to the person performing Hajj whilst in the state of Ihram.

Whoever goes out to pray the Dhuha prayer in the Masjid nothing tires him out except that then his reward is that of a person performing Umrah.

Praying a prayer after another prayer where no falsehood takes place between them then that is written in the Book of good deeds.❞

The Scholar of Hadeeth, Shaykh AbdulMuhsin Al-Abbad [حفظه الله] commented:

❝This means, that whoever performed Wudu and went out to the Masjid wanting to perform a prayer from the obligatory prayers, which Allaah has obligated upon him, which are the five prayers. For this, his reward is like the reward of a person in the state of Ihraam performing the Hajj who wears the clothing of Hajj.

This means, that Allaah [تعالى] rewards the similar to a person in the state of Ihraam Performing the Hajj.

One person went out to perform an obligatory prayer and the person in the state of Ihraam went out to perform a great worship, so the reward of that person is similar to the reward of this person. Allaah’s virtue is vast.❞

NEVER GO TO BED WITHOUT PRAYING WITR.

● Umm Salamah (radiAllahuanha) narrated:

"The Prophet (sallallaahu alayhiwa sallam) would perform Witr with thirteen [Rak'ah]. When he was older and became weak he performed Witr with seven." [Jami at-Tirmidhi 457, 458, Grade: Sahih]

● Masruq (radiAllahuanhu) said:

I asked 'Aishah (radiAllahuanha): "When would the Messenger of Allah (ﷺ) observe the witr prayer?" She replied: "Any time he observed the witr, sometimes in the early hours of the night, sometimes at midnight and sometimes towards the end of it. But he used to observe the witr just before the dawn when he died."
[Sunan Abi Dawud 1435, Grade: Sahih (Al-Albani)]

● Narrated from Ibn Umar (radiAllahuanhuma):

The Prophet (ﷺ) said: "Witr is one rak'ah at the end of the night." [Sunan an-Nasa'i 1689, Grade: Sahih]

The Prophet (ﷺ) used to offer thirteen rakat of the night prayer and that included the witr and two rakat (Sunna) of the Fajr prayer.

● Ibn Umar (radiAllahuanhuma) narrated:

A man asked the Messenger of Allah (ﷺ) about prayers at night, and he said: "Two by two, then if one of you fears that dawn will come, let him pray witr with one."[Sunan an-
Nasa'i 1670, Grade: Sahih].

Giving Charity on Fridays

Ibn al-Qayyim (rahimahullah) said:

Giving charity on Friday has a special merit compared to other days,

just as giving charity during the month of Ramadan has a higher merit compared to the rest of the year.

I witnessed Shaykh al-Islam Ibn Taymiyyah (rahimahullah)

when he would go out for Jumuaah,

he would take whatever he found at home—be it bread or anything else—and give it as charity in secret on his way.

I heard him say:

“If Allah commanded us to give charity before consulting with the Messenger of Allah (sallAllahu ‘alayhi wa sallam) (58:12),

then giving charity before consulting with Allah is even more virtuous and deserving of merit”

[Ibn al-Qayyim (rahimahullah), Zaad al-Maad, 1/399]

Ibn ul-Qayyim (rahimahullah) said:

If the one giving charity knew that his charity landed in the Hand of Allah before the hand of the poor person (48:10),

the pleasure of the giver would be greater than the pleasure of the receiver.

ʿAbdullāh Ibn ‘Abbās (radiAllahuanhuma) said:

"Love for Allāh, hate for Allāh -

Make your enmity because of Allāh, make your allegiance because of Allāh; For indeed, love and support of Allāh is not achieved except in this manner. And a man will never taste true faith (īmān) although he may pray, fast much – except when he is like this. Today, people’s brotherhood is based upon worldly considerations (dunyā), but this will not do anything for them on the Day of Resurrection.”

A man said to Ibraheem ibn Adham رحمه الله:

“I cannot get up to perform the night prayers, can you explain to me the cure?!’ Ibraheem ibn Adham رحمه الله said: ‘Do not disobey ALLAH ( ﷻ ) during the day and He will give you the ability to stand before Him during the night; for your standing before Him at night is one of the greatest honours and the disobedient one is not deserving of such an honour.’”

It was narrated from Umm Habibah, the wife of the Prophet (ﷺ), that the Prophet (ﷺ) said:
“The words of the son of Adam count against him, not for him, except what is good and forbidding what is evil, and remembering Allah.”

It was narrated that Abu Al-Aliyah said:
"Ibn Abbas said: "On the morning of Al-Aqabah, while he was on his mount, the Messenger of Allah said to me: "Pick up (some pebbles) for me." So I picked up some pebbles for him that were the size of date stones or fingertips, and when I placed them in his hand he said: "Like these. And beware of going to extremes in religious matters, for those who came before you were destroyed because of going to extremes in religious matters."

So you should not be extremists, but try to be near to perfection and receive the good tidings that you will be rewarded; and gain strength by worshipping in the mornings, the afternoons, and during the last hours of the nights." Ibn al-Qayyim رحمه الله:

‎"Ibn Taymiyyah used to race towards the fulfilling of people's needs very earnestly,

‎because he knew that every time he helped someone else, Allāh would help him."

هذا العالم محدود بالزمن
This world is limited by time.

‎هذه الحياة الدنيا زائلة
This worldly life is fleeting.

‎فاجعلها في طاعة الله
Use it upon obedience.

‎وعلّم نفسك القناعة
And teach your soul contentment.

Ibn al-Jawzi, in Disciplining the Soul, warned against the disease of wanting more, saying: “He who spends days hoarding wealth out of fear of poverty lives in poverty itself.”

He observed how people exhaust themselves chasing wealth, yet never attain what they desire, often dying on the path of greed, leaving behind all they worked for.

Today, we may not cross deserts or load mules, but we still chase endlessly—more wealth, more status, more possessions. We waste time longing for what we don’t have: a better job, a richer or prettier spouse, a bigger home. Yet we neglect what we do have—our families, our blessings, our deen.

Ibn al-Qayyim reminds us: “Patience is half of Īmān, and gratitude is the other half.” (عدّة الصّابرين وذخيرة الشّاكرين).

Gratitude shifts our focus from what we lack to what we have, fostering contentment and a heart rich with appreciation.

A wise person reflects on the brevity of life and the permanence of the Hereafter. This world is but a bridge, and no one makes a bridge their home.

The Prophets lived this wisdom. Prophet Nūh stayed content in a wool house for 950 years. Prophet Muhammad (peace and blessings be upon him) lived in a simple mud house, and many days passed in his household without a fire being lit because there was no food to cook.

They understood that true wealth lies not in the possession of luxuries but in the richness of the heart.

‎قال النّبيّ صلّى الله عليه وسلّم:
The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said:

‎لَيْسَ الْغِنَى عَنْ كَثْرَةِ الْعَرَضِ،
True wealth is not in the abundance of possessions,

‎وَلَكِنَّ الْغِنَى غِنَى النَّفسِ
But true wealth is the richness of the soul.

🔺 *Debt is a very serious matter, indeed*🔺

Many people have adopted a very casual approach to being in debt and take out loans, not for some urgent need, but because they want to unnecessarily keep up with others in buying bigger homes, faster cars, more furniture or clothes or other temporary luxuries of this life.

But taking loans and being in debt is a GRAVE matter.

Islaam takes the matter of debt very seriously and warns against it and urges the Muslim to avoid it as much as possible.

And I am NOT talking about taking an “interest based” loan.
That is forbidden for SURE.

The kind of loan I am talking about is one WITHOUT interest, one that does NOT involve Ribaa;
The kind that is *allowed*, yet *discouraged* in Islaam.

And yet, we don’t see it as such.

🔺 *1) The Prophet (Sal Allaahu Alaiyhi wa Sallam) used to seek protection from it.

The Prophet (Sal Allaahu Alaiyhi wa Sallam) used to say in his prayer:

اللَّهُمَّ إِنِّي أَعُوذُ بِكَ مِنَ الْمَأْثَمِ وَالْمَغْرَمِ

“Allaahumma inni a’oodhi bika min al-ma’tham wa’l-maghram

“O Allaah, I seek refuge with You from sin and heavy debt.”

Someone said to him: “How often you seek refuge from heavy debt!”

He said: “When a man gets into debt, he speak and tells lies, and he makes a promise and breaks it.”
(al-Bukhaari and Muslim).

🔺 2) The person in debt will not enter Jannah until the debt is paid off!

Muhammad ibn Jahsh radhi Allaahu anhu said:

“We were sitting with the Messenger of Allaah Sal Allaahu Alaiyhi wa Sallam when he raised his head towards the sky, then he put his palm on his forehead and said:

“Subhaan-Allaah!

What a strict issue has been revealed to me!”

We remained silent and were afraid. The following morning I asked him:

“O Messenger of Allaah, what is this strict issue that has been revealed?”

He said,

“By the One in Whose hand is my soul, if a man were killed in battle for the sake of Allaah, then brought back to life, then killed and brought back to life again, then killed, and he owed a debt, he would not enter Jannah until his debt was paid off.” (al-Nasaa’i- hasan by al-Albaani)

🔺 3) The Prophet (Sal Allaahu Alaiyhi wa Sallam) didn’t pray his Janazah!

The Prophet (Sal Allaahu Alaiyhi wa Sallam) did not lead the funeral prayer for someone who had died owing three dinars, until Abu Qataadah radhi Allaahu anhu said:

O Allah's Messenger! Lead his funeral prayer, and I will pay his debt." So, he led the salat (prayer).
(al-Bukhaari)

🔺 4) Freedom from debt makes entry into Jannah EASY.

The Prophet sal Allaahu Alayhi wa sallam said:

“Whoever dies free from three things – arrogance, cheating and debt – will enter Jannah.”
(al-Tirmidhi (1572); saheeh by al-Albaani)

🔺 5) The soul of the one in debt is suspended!

The Prophet (Sal Allaahu Alaiyhi wa Sallam) said:

“Your companion is being detained by his debt.” (Abu Dawood- hasan by al-Albaani).

And he said:

“The soul of the believer is held hostage by his debt in his grave until it is paid off.”
(at-Tirmidhi: saheeh by al-Albaani)

🍃 Explaining this hadeeth al-Suyooti said:

“It (soul) is detained and kept from reaching its noble destination.

🍃 Al-‘Iraaqi said:

“No judgment is passed as to whether it will be saved or doomed until it is determined whether his debt will be paid off or not.”

🔺 Statements of Sahaabah regarding debt

🍃 Umar ibn al-Khattaab said:

“Beware of debt, for it starts with worry and it ends with war.”
(Maalik in al-Muwatta).

🍃 And Ibn ‘Umar said:

“O Humraan, fear Allaah and do not die in debt, lest it be taken from your good deeds when there will be no dinars and no dirhams.”

🔺 When is taking a loan permissible?

The Ulama warn us about how difficult the issue of debt is, and that it should not be undertaken except in cases of necessity.

Based on this, there are three conditions for debt to be permissible:

🍃 1- The borrower should be determined to repay it.

🍃 2- It should be known or thought most likely that he is able to repay it,

🍃 3- It should be for something that is permissible according to Sharee’ah.

🔺 Ibn ‘Abd al-Barr said:

“The debt for which a person will be kept out of Paradise – and Allaah knows best – is that for which he left behind enough to pay it off but he did not leave instructions to that effect, or he was able to pay it off but did not do so, or he took the loan for some unlawful or extravagant matter and died without having paid it off.

As for the one who took a loan for something lawful because he was poor, and he died without leaving behind anything to pay it off, Allaah will not keep him from Paradise because of it, in sha Allaah.”

So take a loan only when absolutely necessary.

And if you are in a situation of debt right now, try your utmost best to pay off your debts as soon as possible.

Strive hard to pay it off, don’t take it lightly, put your trust in Allaah, and pray to Him to make it easy for you to pay off your debt.

🍃 The Prophet (Sal Allaahu Alaiyhi wa Sallam) said:

“The one who takes people’s wealth intending to pay it back, Allaah will pay it back for him, and the one who takes it intending to destroy it, Allaah will destroy him.”
(al-Bukhaari).

There are a number of duas in the Sunnah that the Prophet (Sal Allaahu Alaiyhi wa Sallam) used to make to help him stay away from all kinds of debt and to pay off any debts a person may have.

We should try and read those duaas and do our best to pay off our debts we may have, as soon as possible.

May Allaah help us to do that. Ameen.

‎”Do not let your past (carelessness) make you lose hope of achieving good for many people have come back to wakefulness after a long sleep.”
