Creating Barriers Between Us & Distractions in Ramadan
As Ramadan approaches, our teacher reminded us to be intentional about protecting our time. This is a month of immense mercy, forgiveness, and opportunities for growth—one that passes quickly. If I’m not mindful, distractions can steal my precious moments of worship and reflection.
One of the best ways to stay focused is to create steps between myself and that which wastes my time. Instead of relying on willpower alone, I can put practical barriers in place to keep my heart and mind where they need to be.
Practical Steps to Reduce Distractions
✅ Limit Screen Time: Remove unnecessary apps, turn off notifications, or place my phone in another room during key worship times.
✅ Pre-plan Meals: Meal prep or keep iftar/suhoor simple to avoid spending hours in the kitchen.
✅ Schedule Tasks Outside Ramadan: Postpone non-urgent tasks until after Eid.
✅ Create Worship Spaces: Designate a prayer space that is calm and free of distractions.
✅ Use Habit Stacking: Attach worship to daily actions (e.g., listening to Quran while cooking, making dhikr while walking).
Brain Dump: Things That Might Distract Me in Ramadan
Before Ramadan begins, I want to unload anything that could pull me away from what truly matters. Here’s a list of things I may need to handle before or after Ramadan, inshaAllah:
📝 Household Tasks:
▫️ Decluttering rooms that might take mental space.
▫️ Deep cleaning so I don’t focus on it later.
▫️ Setting up easy meal plans.
📝 Digital Distractions:
▫️ Clearing unread emails/messages.
▫️ Muting or unfollowing accounts that don’t benefit me spiritually.
▫️ Setting up auto-replies if needed.
📝 Social & Personal Commitments:
▫️ Informing family and friends about my Ramadan priorities.
▫️ Limiting unnecessary social outings.
▫️ Preparing Eid gifts in advance.
📝 Mental Load & Responsibilities:
▫️ Writing down all unfinished tasks and deciding if they can wait.
▫️ Letting go of the need to complete everything perfectly.
▫️ Delegating where possible.
By dealing with these distractions before Ramadan, I free myself to focus on what truly matters—Quran, dhikr, prayer, and seeking Allah’s mercy.
This Ramadan, I don’t want to just go through the month—I want to grow through it. InshaAllah, may Allah bless us with a month of focus, barakah, and nearness to Him. Ameen.

*Prepare your chewing stick(siwaak) also in Ramadan* .
Siwak for the person observing Saum (fasting).
Narrated 'Amir bin Rabi`a, "I saw the Prophet (salalaahu Alaihi wasalam) cleaning his teeth with Siwak while he was fasting so many times as I can't count."
The name of the chapter above, as in Sahih Bukhari, makes it clear, that it is permissible to use siwak while fasting. As per majority of the scholars, it is permissible to swallow the saliva after using the siwak, unless any flavor comes out it (fresh siwak), just as the fasting person is allowed to do wudoo’, then he should spit out the water from his mouth and then swallow his saliva. He does not have to dry his mouth completely from the water used for rinsing.
And narrated Abu Huraira [ may Allah be pleased with him ], "The Prophet (salalaahu Alaihi wasalam) said, 'But for my fear that it would be hard for my followers, I would have ordered them to clean their teeth with Siwak on every performance of ablution."
The Sunnah of using Sewak
There are several times in which a Muslim may use Sewak at day and night:
The Prophet said: “Were it not for avoiding inflicting difficulties on my nation, I would have ordered them to use Sewak upon the performance of each prayer” (Narrated by Al-Bukhari and Muslim)
The total times of using Sewak by the Muslim at the day and night is not less than (20) times. The Muslim uses Sewak:
- Upon performing the five prayers, the regular Sunnah prayers, Al-Doha (Morning) prayer, Al-Wetr Prayer (i.e. ending prayer with odd Rak’ah – prostration – at night).
- Upon entering the house, because the first thing performed by the Prophet when he enters his house is using the Sewak, as narrated by Aisha – May Allah be pleased with her – in Sahih Muslim. So, every time you enter your house use Sewak in order to apply the Sunnah.
- Upon reading the Quran, for changing the smell of the mouth.
- Upon waking up.
- Upon making ablution (Wudoo’).
The Prophet – said: “The Sewak cleans the mouth and causes the pleasure of Allah the Almighty” (Narrated by Ahmad)
The benefit of applying this Sunnah:
a) Gaining the pleasure of Allah the Almighty.
b) Cleaning the mouth.
Sewaak or Miswaak are all the same and that is chewing stick, chew it even when fasting to gain reward from Allah and to follow the Sunnah of the prophet.

Being tested with a bad person in your life is not an excuse for you to generalize this judgment to everyone, such as an employee with a former tyrannical boss, a wife with an oppressive ex-husband, or a business partner with a deceitful partner.
Do not carry fear and anxiety with you, such that it prevents you from [forming] beneficial relationships and from your religious and worldly gains. Seek aid from Allah, pray Istikhaara, and be optimistic.

The Month Of Ramadan Has Arrived💖
From Abu Hurairah [رضي الله عنه] who said: The Messenger of Allaah [ﷺ] used to give good news to his Companions with the arrival of Ramadan, he would say:
«قد جاءكم شهر رمضان شهرٌ مبارك ، كتب الله عليكم صيامه ، فيه تفتح أبواب الجنة وتغلق فيه أبواب الجحيم ، وتغل فيه الشياطين ، فيه ليلةٌ خيرٌ من ألف شهر ، من حُرِمَ خيرها فقد حُرِم.»
❝Indeed the month of Ramadan has arrived, a blessed month. Allaah has prescribed fasting for you. In this month the doors of Paradise are opened and the doors of hell are closed. The devils are shackled. In Ramadan there is a night better than a thousand months, whoever is prohibited from the good in that night then indeed he has been prohibited from good.❞

Ibn Rajab Al-Hanbali said:
❝Some of the scholars said: This Hadeeth is a foundation for some people congratulating others with the month of Ramadan.
How can one not give good news to the believer with the doors of Paradise opening.
How can one not give good news to the sinful that the doors of the Hell fire have been closed.
How can one not give good news to the intelligent one with that the devils are shackled.
Where can this time period be compared to any other time.❞

Ramadan Schedule!
1- Read 5 pages of the Quran after each prayer.
(So we finish the entire Quran during Ramadan)
2- Make 200 istghfar, after each prayer.
(So We can make istghfar at least 1000 times each day)
3-Read Surah al-ikhlas at least 3 times every day (reading it 3 times will give you the blessing of reading the ENTIRE Quran).
4- Recite “Subhan Allah wa bihamdihi سبحان الله !وبحمده
100 times a day, so you can forgiven for all your sins even if they were as much as the foam of the sea.
5- Give charity every day (even if it's just 100 Naira), because giving one hundred naira will multiply especially on Laylatul Qadr, this is why it's important to give out charity every day, so we don't miss it!!!

You will be overwhelmed with joy when you are honoured, safeguarded (from the punishment) and entered into eternal bliss due to you opposing the people in order to not oppose Allah. Await for that day by enduring patiently the harms of society.
Aisha reported: The Messenger of Allah, peace and blessings be upon him, said, “Whoever seeks the pleasure of Allah by the displeasure of people, Allah will suffice him against the people. Whoever seeks the pleasure of people by the displeasure of Allah, Allah will leave him to the patronage of the people.”

“(By fasting) one narrows the passageways of Shayṭān within the servant (of Allāh), by narrowing the passageways of food and drink. As well, it restrains the force of the limbs from giving way to its dominating nature of that which is harmful to it in this world and the hereafter.
And, (fasting) subdues every limb and might of the soul from (following its) whims, and harnesses it by its bridle.
For, surely (the fast) is the bridle of the muttaqūn [the righteous, those having taqwá] and the shield of the warriors [a shield between them and the Hell-fire].”

Ramadan is Here—Will this one be Different?
Every year we promise “This Ramadan, I’ll change.” “This time, I’ll do better.” But the reality?
The first few days we’re motivated, and then…?
The same excuses, the same laziness, the same distractions–work, exams, social media. And before we know it, Ramadan is over, and we’re left with nothing but regret.
Actually we are the problem. We waste time scrolling, overstuffing at iftar, sleeping through Fajr, skipping Qur’an, and then crying on the last night, hoping Laylatul Qadr will fix everything. But what if this is our last Ramadan? What if there’s no ‘next year’ to make up for this one?
What Needs to Change—Right Now:
• Cut the crap. Uninstall the distractions. Block the time-wasters. If it doesn’t bring you closer to Allah, it’s not worth it.
• Plan your ibadah like your life depends on it. Because guess what? It does. Make your Qur’an and salah non-negotiable. increase the acts of worship as much as you can.
• No more ‘I’ll do it later.’ Later is a lie. Later is the shaytan’s trap. Do it now—before you run out of chances.
• Ask yourself: If I don’t make it to Eid, will this Ramadan be enough for me to get jannah?
If we enter this Ramadan the same way we did last year, we’ll leave it the same way too—unchanged. And that’s a terrifying thought. This is your wake-up call. Don’t waste it.

Bad breath during Fasting:
Some people mistakenly think that the bad breath of the fasting person is a good thing, citing the Hadith:
وَلَخَلُوفُ فَمِ الصَّائِمِ أَطْيَبُ عِنْدَ اللَّهِ مِنْ رِيحِ الْمِسْكِ
"The smell of the mouth of a fasting person is better in the sight of God than the smell of musk (perfume)."
["Sahih Bukhari", 5927].
https://sunnah.com/bukhari:5927
This is a wrong understanding of the Hadith.
It is talking about the odour that is generated by the empty stomach, it is not encouraging a lack of hygiene by not brushing your teeth.
This misunderstanding arose at the time of Mu'adh Ibn Jabbal, and he corrected it:
A man said to the companion of the Prophet, Mu’aadh ibn Jabal: "𝗣𝗲𝗼𝗽𝗹𝗲 𝗱𝗶𝘀𝗹𝗶𝗸𝗲 (𝗯𝗿𝘂𝘀𝗵𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝘁𝗵𝗲 𝘁𝗲𝗲𝘁𝗵) 𝗶𝗻 𝘁𝗵𝗲 𝗲𝘃𝗲𝗻𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝗮𝗻𝗱 𝘁𝗵𝗲𝘆 𝘀𝗮𝘆 𝘁𝗵𝗲 𝗣𝗿𝗼𝗽𝗵𝗲𝘁 ﷺ 𝘀𝗮𝗶𝗱: 𝘁𝗵𝗲 𝗯𝗿𝗲𝗮𝘁𝗵 𝗼𝗳 𝗮 𝗳𝗮𝘀𝘁𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝗽𝗲𝗿𝘀𝗼𝗻 𝗶𝘀 𝗯𝗲𝘁𝘁𝗲𝗿 𝗶𝗻 𝘁𝗵𝗲 𝘀𝗶𝗴𝗵𝘁 𝗼𝗳 𝗚𝗼𝗱 𝘁𝗵𝗮𝗻 𝘁𝗵𝗲 𝘀𝗰𝗲𝗻𝘁 𝗼𝗳 𝗺𝘂𝘀𝗸 (𝗽𝗲𝗿𝗳𝘂𝗺𝗲)!"
So Mu'adh said: "𝗦𝘂𝗯𝗵𝗮𝗻𝗔𝗹𝗹𝗮𝗵, 𝗵𝗲 𝗰𝗼𝗺𝗺𝗮𝗻𝗱𝗲𝗱 𝘁𝗵𝗲𝗺 𝘁𝗼 𝗯𝗿𝘂𝘀𝗵 𝘁𝗵𝗲𝗶𝗿 𝘁𝗲𝗲𝘁𝗵 𝘄𝗶𝘁𝗵 𝘁𝗵𝗲 𝘀𝗶𝘄𝗮𝗮𝗸 𝗮𝗻𝗱 𝗵𝗲 𝗸𝗻𝗼𝘄𝘀 𝘁𝗵𝗮𝘁 𝘁𝗵𝗲𝗿𝗲 𝘄𝗶𝗹𝗹 𝗯𝗲 𝗯𝗿𝗲𝗮𝘁𝗵 𝗼𝗻 𝗮 𝗳𝗮𝘀𝘁𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝗽𝗲𝗿𝘀𝗼𝗻 𝗲𝘃𝗲𝗻 𝗶𝗳 𝘁𝗵𝗲𝘆 𝘂𝘀𝗲 𝘁𝗵𝗲 𝘁𝗼𝗼𝘁𝗵 𝘀𝘁𝗶𝗰𝗸! ["Tabarani", 20/133 - Ibn Hajar said the chain is good: إسناده جيد ].
--------------------------------
The Prophet used to brush his teeth, when he was fasting. It is encouraged to brush the teeth during fasting even if its with toothpaste, as long as its not swallowed - according to many scholars.
This is especially important when you meet other people, attend gatherings and meetings, etc.
Some people mistakenly think that the bad breath of the fasting person is a good thing, citing the Hadith:

A man said to the companion of the Prophet, Mu’aadh ibn Jabal: "𝗣𝗲𝗼𝗽𝗹𝗲 𝗱𝗶𝘀𝗹𝗶𝗸𝗲 (𝗯𝗿𝘂𝘀𝗵𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝘁𝗵𝗲 𝘁𝗲𝗲𝘁𝗵) 𝗶𝗻 𝘁𝗵𝗲 𝗲𝘃𝗲𝗻𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝗮𝗻𝗱 𝘁𝗵𝗲𝘆 𝘀𝗮𝘆 𝘁𝗵𝗲 𝗣𝗿𝗼𝗽𝗵𝗲𝘁 ﷺ 𝘀𝗮𝗶𝗱: 𝘁𝗵𝗲 𝗯𝗿𝗲𝗮𝘁𝗵 𝗼𝗳 𝗮 𝗳𝗮𝘀𝘁𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝗽𝗲𝗿𝘀𝗼𝗻 𝗶𝘀 𝗯𝗲𝘁𝘁𝗲𝗿 𝗶𝗻 𝘁𝗵𝗲 𝘀𝗶𝗴𝗵𝘁 𝗼𝗳 𝗚𝗼𝗱 𝘁𝗵𝗮𝗻 𝘁𝗵𝗲 𝘀𝗰𝗲𝗻𝘁 𝗼𝗳 𝗺𝘂𝘀𝗸 (𝗽𝗲𝗿𝗳𝘂𝗺𝗲)!"
So Mu'adh said: "𝗦𝘂𝗯𝗵𝗮𝗻𝗔𝗹𝗹𝗮𝗵, 𝗵𝗲 𝗰𝗼𝗺𝗺𝗮𝗻𝗱𝗲𝗱 𝘁𝗵𝗲𝗺 𝘁𝗼 𝗯𝗿𝘂𝘀𝗵 𝘁𝗵𝗲𝗶𝗿 𝘁𝗲𝗲𝘁𝗵 𝘄𝗶𝘁𝗵 𝘁𝗵𝗲 𝘀𝗶𝘄𝗮𝗮𝗸 𝗮𝗻𝗱 𝗵𝗲 𝗸𝗻𝗼𝘄𝘀 𝘁𝗵𝗮𝘁 𝘁𝗵𝗲𝗿𝗲 𝘄𝗶𝗹𝗹 𝗯𝗲 𝗯𝗿𝗲𝗮𝘁𝗵 𝗼𝗻 𝗮 𝗳𝗮𝘀𝘁𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝗽𝗲𝗿𝘀𝗼𝗻 𝗲𝘃𝗲𝗻 𝗶𝗳 𝘁𝗵𝗲𝘆 𝘂𝘀𝗲 𝘁𝗵𝗲 𝘁𝗼𝗼𝘁𝗵 𝘀𝘁𝗶𝗰𝗸! The Prophet used to brush his teeth, when he was fasting. It is encouraged to brush the teeth during fasting even if its with toothpaste, as long as its not swallowed - according to many scholars.
This is especially important when you meet other people, attend gatherings and meetings, etc.

As soon as you die, your identity becomes a "body".
People use phrases like, "bring the body". "Lower the body to the grave yard", etc..
People don't even call you by your name. Whom you tried to impress your whole life..
Live a life to impress the creator not the creation.

Eating Suhr after Fajr and Breaking fast before Maghrib
Shaykh Muhammad ibn Saaleh Al Uthaymeen may Allah have mercy upon him was asked:
"what is the ruling on the one who eats while in doubt if the sun has risen for fajr or not then after that it becomes clear to him that the sun did actually rise, and and also the one who eats thinking the sun has set then after that it becomes clear to him that the sun did not actually set?"
The noble Shaykh replied by saying:
"if one is in doubt and thinks - has the sun risen or not - then he eats and then after that it becomes clear to him that the sun already rose then it is not upon him to make up his fast; even if he is completely unsure whether it has risen or not. This is because Allah the most high says " and eat and drink until the white thread (light) of dawn appears to you distinct from the black thread (darkness of the night)"............
And eating in this time is permitted and there is not no sin on the one who eats in this time nor does he have to make up his fast.
As for if one eats thinking the sun has set and then it becomes clear to him after that the sun did not actually set then it is not upon him to make up his fast upon the most correct opinion, because of the hadeeth of Asmaa bint abu Bakr: the companions opened their fast in the time of the prophet on a cloudy day and they were not ordered to make up their fast.
As for the one who eats in doubt whether the sun has set and then after that it becomes clear to him that the sun did not set then it is obligatory that he makes up his fast, because he ate in this state, meaning in a state of doubt and it is haraam for one to eat whilst being in this state of doubt. Rather it is not permissible for him to open his fast except if he is certain that the sun has set or at least he is leaning more towards that. In this particular state, meaning if he opens his fast and he is in doubt then it becomes clear to him that the sun did not set it is waajib for him to repeat his fast because his was not permitted to open his fast in that state.

How to recognise the devils from amongst mankind | Sh. Ibn al-'Uthaymeen Raḥimahullāh
Sh. Ibn al-'Uthaymeen was asked how can one recognise the devils from amongst mankind?? He Raḥimahullāh, replied beautifully and said:
“Whoever calls you towards evil and shamelessness then he is the DEVIL (from amongst mankind).”

Choose your friend wisely and do not accompany human Shayāṭeen, BaarakAllaahu Feekum !!

The same applies to a woman who, after offering Fajr Prayer, remains seated at her Musalla mentioning the Name of Allah or reciting Ayahs of the Qur’an until the sun rises high, then offers two Rak‘ahs. She is ennoscriptd to the reward mentioned in the Hadiths for this act - that is, Allah will write down to the doer the reward of performing complete Hajj and ‘Umrah (lesser pilgrimage).
