Ibn al-Qayyim
The first generations of Islam were the most righteous, so their rulers were likewise. When they later became tarnished with corruption, the rulers over them became corrupted. Hence, the wisdom of Allah refuses that righteous rulers like Mu’awiyah and Umar ibn Abdul Aziz are put in authority over us in these times, let alone the likes of Abu Bakr and Umar. Rather, our rulers are in accordance with our nature and the rulers of those before us were in accordance with their nature.

Sharḥ Riyaḍ al-Ṣāliḥīn, (4/115-116)
We live in a world where the majority of the people don’t believe in Allah and the only thing they worship are their desires. The issue of rape is out of control in the west and the dangers of allowing your wife to leave the house are enormous. Maximum effort should be taken to ensure that women are never alone. Many Muslim men today don’t care about their women, we have followed the way of the disbelievers. If you don’t have any sense of protection in your heart for your women, still protect your women regardless as failing to do so is a major sin. And sisters, if your husband lacks this sense of protection over the women in the house, it doesn’t mean you can freely do as you wish. Teach your husband if he doesn’t know, save your father, brothers and husbands from the punishment in the next life if you really truly love them.

And the example of Ghayrah in the heart is the example of the strength that shields one from sickness and fights it off, so if the strength leaves, he will be faced with the sickness, and will not find any thing to protect himself from it, so it will establish itself [within him] and destroy him ."

Praise be to Allaah.
My comment on this is that these words can only come from one who is ignorant of sharee’ah, ignorant of Islam, ignorant of the rights of women, and is impressed by the attitudes and ways of the enemies of Allaah who are far away from the truth. Islam – praise be to Allaah – did not take away women’s rights, but Islam is the religion of wisdom which gives everyone his or her rightful status. Women’s work is in the home, and her staying athome is for the purpose of looking after her husband, raising her children, taking care the household affairs, and doing work that is suited to her.
The man has his own work to do, which is usually earning a living and benefiting the ummah. When she stays at home to look after him and her children, and the interests of her children, that is the work that is suited to her. It is also a protection for her, as it keeps her far away from immorality which may occur if she goes out and works with men. It is well known that when women work with men that also adversely affects the man’s work, because the man has a natural inclination towards women. If he works with her he will be distracted by this woman, especially if she is young and beautiful. He will forget his work and if he does it, he will not do it properly. The one who studies the situation of the Muslims at the beginning of Islam will see how they protected their womenfolk and how they did their work in the best manner. [End quote].

He replied: In the hadeeth from the Prophet (blessings and peace of All
ah be upon him) it says that when Allah, may He be glorified and exalted, created Paradise, He said: “By My glory and majesty, no miser, liar or cuckold will enter you.” The cuckold is the one who has no protective jealousy or pride. In al-Saheeh it is narrated that the Prophet (blessings and peace of Allah be upon him) said: “The believer has protective jealousy (gheerah) and Allah has protective jealousy, and the protective jealousy of Allah is that no slave should do that which is forbidden to him.” And Allah says (interpretation of the meaning): “The adulterer — fornicator marries not but an adulteress — fornicatress or a Mushrikah; and the adulteress –fornicatress, none marries her except an adulterer — fornicater or a Mushrik [and that means that the man who agrees to marry (have a sexual relation with) a Mushrikah (female polytheist, pagan or idolatress) or a prostitute, then surely, he is either an adulterer — fornicator, or a Mushrik (polytheist, pagan or idolater). And the woman who agrees to marry (have a sexual relation with) a Mushrik (polytheist, pagan or idolater) or an adulterer — fornicator, then she is either a prostitute or a Mushrikah (female polytheist, pagan, or idolatress)]. Such a thing is forbidden to the believers (of Islâmic Monotheism)” [al-Noor 24:3]. The correct scholarly opinion is that it is not permissible to marry a zaaniyah (a woman who commits fornication or adultery) until after she has repented. The same applies if the wife commits zina: the husband has no right to keep her in that case; rather he should leave her, otherwise he will be a cuckold (duyooth).

Men are the protectors and maintainers of women, because Allah has made one of them to excel the other, and because they spend (to support them) from their means. Therefore the righteous women are devoutly obedient (to Allah and to their husbands), and guard in the husband's absence what Allah orders them to guard (e.g. their chastity, their husband's property, etc.). As to those women on whose part you see ill-conduct, admonish them (first), (next), refuse to share their beds, (and last) beat them (lightly, if it is useful), but if they return to obedience, seek not against them means (of annoyance). Surely, Allah is Ever Most High, Most Great. - [ Sooratun-Nisaa' : Ayah 34 ]
However, this does not mean that he is above her. Rather, it is more appropriate and more suitable that this verse increases him in mercy for her, because she is a poor, sensitive woman under his power. So, he should not praise other women in front of her, nor strike her especially in front of his family or her family. Similarly, he should keep whatever problems are between him and his wife private. He should try his utmost to cover things up so that he does not break her heart or shatter her soul. It particularly affects her soul if her relatives know her situation with her husband. ~ End of Page 110 ~
From the most dangerous, worst, and most harmful of affairs is when he hits her especially in front of her children so that it lowers her in their view and weakening her person, which prevents her from carrying out that which is obligatory upon her to carry out in raising the children. You must remember before you raise your hand to hit her that Allaah is stronger than you are! So, if your power calls you to oppress her, then remember the Power of Allaah over you.
On the authority of Abee Mas'ood al-Ansaaree who said:
I hit a young slave, then I heard a sound behind me,
"Know Aboo Mas'ood that Allaah has more power over you than you have over him (the child)."
Therefore I turned around and it was the Messenger of Allaah (صلى الله عليه و سلم), so I said: "O Messenger of Allaah, I will free him for the sake of Allaah." So, he said:
"If you had not done that, the Fire would burn you (~ or the Fire would touch you)." - Saheeh Muslim
