🔹A Tremendous Dua! By| Abu Hakeem أبو حكيم بلال

Bismillahi Wal Hamdullillah Was Salaatu Was Salaamu ‘Alaa Rasoolillah
Indeed the meaningful duas of the Messenger – Sallallahu Alaihi Was Salam are many (and all of his supplications are meaningful) but the following is one many im sure will find relavant to our trying times Allahul Musta’aan

Abu Hurairah – Radhiyallahu anhu said:

From his (The Messenger of Allah – Sallallahu alaihi wa Salam) supplications was:

“Oh Allah! I seek refuge in you from an evil neighbour; and from a wife that causes me to grow old before old age;
and from a son who will become a master over me;
and from wealth that becomes a punishment for me and from a cunning friend whose gaze is upon me and whose heart is plotting and planning against me, such that if he sees something good, he buries it, and if he sees something bad he spreads it“

(The transliteration of which is: “Allahumma innee a’udhu bika min Jaaris Suu, wa min zawjin tushayyibunee qablal masheeb, wa min waladin yakoonu alaiyya rabban, wa min maalin yakoonu alaiyya ‘adhaaban, wa min khaleelin maakirin, ‘ainuhu taraanee, wa qalbuhu yar’aanee, in yaraa hasanatan dafanahaa, wa in yaraa sayyi’a’tan adhaa’ahaa“
(Collected by At Tabaraani in ‘Ad Dua’ (3/1425/1339) and its chain is declared ‘Jayyid’ (Good) by Shaikh Al Albaani in silsilatul Ahaadeethus Saheehah (No#3137)

Increase in Righteous Actions as You Increase in Age

Shaykh Muḥammad ibn Ṣāliḥ al-ʿUthaymīn notes: The author (Imām al-Nawawī, may Allāh have mercy upon him) noscripts [his chapter]: The Chapter of Urging Towards Increasing in Good Deeds in the Latter Part of one’s Life.
Know that the latter part of one’s life is crucial, as the Messenger of Allāh (ṣallá Allāhu ʿalayhi wa-sallam) mentioned: Verily one of you performs the actions of the people of Paradise until there is only an arm’s length between him and it, and that which has been written overtakes him, so he acts with the actions of the people of the Hellfire and therefore enters it. And verily one of you performs the actions of the people of the Hellfire, until there is only an arm’s length between him and it, and that which has been written overtakes him, so he acts with the actions of the people of Paradise and therefore enters it.

Likewise, we have from the reported supplications: O’ Allāh, make the latter part of my life the best [part]. And make my last actions the best.

Also it has been authenticated from the Messenger of Allāh (ṣallá Allāhu ʿalayhi wa-sallam) that he mentioned: Whoever’s last words in the dunya is that there is no deity worthy of worship in truth except Allāh, will enter paradise.

So that which is required from the person, as he increases in age, is that he also increases in righteous actions. Likewise, the youth should also increase in righteous actions because one does not know when he will die. He may die in his youth or his death may be delayed, but their is no doubt that the one who is older in age is closer to death than the youth because he is at the end of his life.

Should we fast Arafah according to the moon sighting in the country where we are or according to the moon sighting in al-Haramayn (the two Holy Sanctuaries)?

Shaykh Ibn ‘Uthaymeen (may Allaah have mercy on him) was asked: what if the day of ‘Arafah is different because of the moon being sighted at different times in different countries? Should we fast according to the moon sighting in the country where we are or according to the moon sighting in al-Haramayn (the two Holy Sanctuaries)?

He replied: This is based on a difference of opinion among the scholars: Is there only one moon sighting for the whole world or does it vary according to when the moon rises in different places?

The correct view is that it varies according to when the moon rises in different places. For example, if the moon is sighted in Makkah, and today is the ninth, and it is sighted elsewhere one day before Makkah, and the day of ‘Arafah in Makkah is the tenth for them, it is not permissible for them to fast on this day because it is Eid. Similarly if it so happens that they sight the moon after Makkah, and the 9th in Makkah is the 8th for them, then they should fast the day that is the 9thfor them, which is the 10th in Makkah. This is the correct view, because the Prophet (ﷺ) said: “When you see it (the new moon) fast and when you see it break your fast.” Those who did not see the moon in their own location have not seen it. Just as people are unanimously agreed that the times for dawn and sunset vary according to their own location, so too the months are also worked out by location, just like the daily timings.

As a precaution against shirk, the Prophet ﷺ took the following steps:

i) He ﷺ had prohibited us from making pictures and statues as in the Hadeeth of Aaishah and Ibn Umar رضي الله عنهما, and said that those who make pictures will be punished severely in Hell-Fire and it will be said to them: ❝make alive what you have created❞. [Saheehain]

ii) The second step he ﷺ had taken was to destroy all the pictures and statues and to level all the permanent graves, as has been reported by the Hadeeth of `Alee رضي الله عنه. [Saheeh Muslim]

iii) The third step was to prohibit from making the grave as permanent, or whitewashing it, or writing on it, or building any structure over it (like Masaajid and domes). [Saheeh Muslim]

iv) The Prophet ﷺ was well aware that this Ummah (nation) will follow the footsteps of the people of the Book – who built places of worship over the graves of their Prophets [Saheehain] and made them into places of festivities [Sunan Abu Dawood]. So the fourth step was to prohibit the people to visit the graves. Then he ﷺ gave them permission only to increase their remembrance of the Hereafter.

In the beginning stages of Islaam, it was prohibited by the Prophet ﷺ to visit the graves because the people in Jaahiliyyah (days of ignorance) were deeply rooted in Shirk, and the Jews and the Christians had the graves of the righteous converted into places of worship and worshiped them, and sought their help and called them in difficulties. When the People of the Book (the Jews and the Christians) were in such a bad state, then the state of the Mushriks could well be imagined.

The Prophet ﷺ prohibited the new Muslims from visiting the graves because of all that was going on; then in the very same Hadeeth we get the reason for the permission to visit the graves, that it reminds one of the Hereafter. It is possible to remember the Hereafter only if the grave is simple, which reminds us that we were created of this earth to it we will be returned. But if one were to go to the graves of the so called “Awliyaa”, which are covered in very costly Ghilaaf (cloth); well-built and decorated in marbles and stones; and well-structured inside a dome, then it is impossible that it would remind one of the Hereafter. The example of this is the world famous structure – The Taj Mahal, which is actually a Maqbara (grave site) of the wife of the Moghul king. People all over the world come to it to visit it, not because it reminds them of death or the Hereafter, but only to admire the beauty of its structure and as sightseeing. But from this Ummah there are those who have opposed the teachings of the Prophet ﷺ and took the graves as places of worship. So we have the Ajmerees, Tijaanees, Disookees, Jilaanees. May Allaah save us and our children from ever falling into Shirk.
The Excellence Of The Day Of ‘Arafah

Allaah, The Most High states in His Book:

﴿وَالْيَوْمِ الْمَوْعُودِ وَشَاهِدٍ وَمَشْهُود﴾‏

❝And by the Promised Day [i.e. the Day of Resurrection]; And by the witnessing day [i.e. Friday], and by the witnessed day [i.e. the day of 'Arafat [Hajj] the ninth of Dhul-Hijjah]…❞

[Qur’ān, Surah Al-Burooj, (2-3) | Translated By Dr. Muhammad Muhsin Khan]

-

From Abee Hurairah [رضي الله عنه] who said that the Prophet [ﷺ] said:

❝The Promised Day is: The Day of Resurrection; and the day which is witnessed is: the day of ‘Arafah; and the witness is: the day of Friday. And the sun has not risen nor has it set upon a day that is better than it. In it is an hour in which a believing servant does not coincide supplicating to Allaah for good – except that Allaah will answer him; and nor does he seek refuge from anything except Allaah will grant him refuge from it.❞

[Reported By At-Tirmidhee | Al-‘Allaamah Al-Albaanee: 'Hasan' In His Saheeh Sunan At-Tirmidhee, (No. 3339) | Translated By Abū Haatim M. Farooq]

-

Ibn Rajab [رحمه الله] said:

❝Upon this basis; if the day of ‘Arafah falls on a Friday – then there is incorporated into that day the witness and the witnessed.❞

[Lataa-if Wal Ma’aarif, (Page: 375) | Translated By Abū Haatim M. Farooq]

-

From ‘Umar bin Al-Khattaab [رضي الله عنه] that a man from the Jews said to him:

❝'O leader of the believers; there is an Aayah in your Book which you read; if it had been revealed to the like of us Jews then we would have taken that day as an ‘Eid.' So he said: 'which Aayah is that?' he said:

﴿الْيَوْمَ أَكْمَلْتُ لَكُمْ دِينَكُمْ وَأَتْمَمْتُ عَلَيْكُمْ نِعْمَتِي وَرَضِيتُ لَكُمُ الْإسْلامَ دِينًا﴾‏

«This day I have perfected for you your religion and completed My favour upon you and have chosen for you Islaam as your religion» [Al-Maa-idah: 3]

So ‘Umar said: 'Indeed we know of that day as well as the place in which it was revealed upon the Prophet [ﷺ] - and he was standing at ‘Arafaat on a Friday.'❞

[Reported By Al-Bukhārī, (No. 45) | Muslim, (No. 7443) | Translated By Abū Haatim M. Farooq]

-

From ‘Aisha [رضي الله عنها] who said that the Messenger of Allaah [ﷺ] said:

❝There is no day in which Allaah sets free more slaves from the Hell-Fire than He does on the Day of ‘Arafah.❞
