Should we fast Arafah according to the moon sighting in the country where we are or according to the moon sighting in al-Haramayn (the two Holy Sanctuaries)?
Shaykh Ibn ‘Uthaymeen (may Allaah have mercy on him) was asked: what if the day of ‘Arafah is different because of the moon being sighted at different times in different countries? Should we fast according to the moon sighting in the country where we are or according to the moon sighting in al-Haramayn (the two Holy Sanctuaries)?
He replied: This is based on a difference of opinion among the scholars: Is there only one moon sighting for the whole world or does it vary according to when the moon rises in different places?
The correct view is that it varies according to when the moon rises in different places. For example, if the moon is sighted in Makkah, and today is the ninth, and it is sighted elsewhere one day before Makkah, and the day of ‘Arafah in Makkah is the tenth for them, it is not permissible for them to fast on this day because it is Eid. Similarly if it so happens that they sight the moon after Makkah, and the 9th in Makkah is the 8th for them, then they should fast the day that is the 9thfor them, which is the 10th in Makkah. This is the correct view, because the Prophet (ﷺ) said: “When you see it (the new moon) fast and when you see it break your fast.” Those who did not see the moon in their own location have not seen it. Just as people are unanimously agreed that the times for dawn and sunset vary according to their own location, so too the months are also worked out by location, just like the daily timings.

As a precaution against shirk, the Prophet ﷺ took the following steps:
i) He ﷺ had prohibited us from making pictures and statues as in the Hadeeth of
ii) The second step he ﷺ had taken was to destroy all the pictures and statues and to level all the permanent graves, as has been reported by the Hadeeth of `Alee رضي الله عنه. [Saheeh Muslim]
iii) The third step was to prohibit from making the grave as permanent, or whitewashing it, or writing on it, or building any structure over it (like Masaajid and domes). [Saheeh Muslim]
iv) The Prophet ﷺ was well aware that this Ummah (nation) will follow the footsteps of the people of the Book – who built places of worship over the graves of their Prophets [Saheehain] and made them into places of festivities [Sunan Abu Dawood]. So the fourth step was to prohibit the people to visit the graves. Then he ﷺ gave them permission only to increase their remembrance of the Hereafter.
In the beginning stages of Islaam, it was prohibited by the Prophet ﷺ to visit the graves because the people in Jaahiliyyah (days of ignorance) were deeply rooted in Shirk, and the Jews and the Christians had the graves of the righteous converted into places of worship and worshiped them, and sought their help and called them in difficulties. When the People of the Book (the Jews and the Christians) were in such a bad state, then the state of the Mushriks could well be imagined.
The Prophet ﷺ prohibited the new Muslims from visiting the graves because of all that was going on; then in the very same Hadeeth we get the reason for the permission to visit the graves, that it reminds one of the Hereafter. It is possible to remember the Hereafter only if the grave is simple, which reminds us that we were created of this earth to it we will be returned. But if one were to go to the graves of the so called “Awliyaa”, which are covered in very costly Ghilaaf (cloth); well-built and decorated in marbles and stones; and well-structured inside a dome, then it is impossible that it would remind one of the Hereafter. The example of this is the world famous structure – The Taj Mahal, which is actually a Maqbara (grave site) of the wife of the Moghul king. People all over the world come to it to visit it, not because it reminds them of death or the Hereafter, but only to admire the beauty of its structure and as sightseeing. But from this Ummah there are those who have opposed the teachings of the Prophet ﷺ and took the graves as places of worship. So we have the Ajmerees, Tijaanees, Disookees, Jilaanees. May Allaah save us and our children from ever falling into Shirk.

Giving money to an organisation to slaughter
Question:
Is it permissible to give money for an organisation for sacrifice rather than doing it personally? what about for lady who is giving sacrifice?
Zaynab El-Kateb:
No. The The Scholars say that aa Muslim needs to sacrifice individually. Slaughtering is a great act of worship and it is a Shaira ( شعيرة ) which should be apparent among the Muslims, also distributing meat and eating from it as another act of worship which needs to be done.
Either you slaughter a sheep by yourself or you can share in slaughtering a cow with maximum of 7 people sharing in same cow.
A woman can also slaugter an Udheyya and she can authorize another person or a butcher to slaughter it on her behalf, this is also same for a man who is not able to slaughter by himself, he can authorize someone to do it on his behalf.

“THEY CHANGE THEIR COLOURS LIKE A CHAMELEON…”
✒️SHAIKH AL-FAWZAN {حفظه الله}
✒️Written by Abu Muadh Taqweem Aslam
Narrated Abu Dharr Jundub bin Junada and Abu AbdirRahman Mu’adh bin Jabal رضي الله عنهما that the messenger of Allah صلى الله عليه و سلم said:
“Fear Allah [have taqwa] wherever you are, and follow up a bad deed with a good one, and engage the people with good character” [Tirmidhi]
Shaikh al-Fawzan stated regarding this great hadith that within it are 3 advices, and these 3 advises are the methodology of a muslim that he treads upon in his life.
The First Advice: That a muslim has Taqwa of Allah wherever he may be, whether in front of the people or in isolation away from the eyes of the people. And Taqwa is to perform that which Allah has commanded and to leave that which Allah has forbidden, since that will protect him from the punishment and anger of Allah.
The prophet صلى الله عليه و سلم stated “wherever you are” i.e. that a person does not look toward the people and does not fear the people but rather he fears Allah whether he is alone or among the people. Allah stated, the meaning of which is, ” Truly, nothing is hidden from Allah, in the earth or in the heavens” [Ale-Imran:5].
And some people [regrettably] if they are in a muslim country they demonstrate openly that they are upon Islam, yet if they go to a land of non-muslims they conform to their ways [and leave Islamic ways], so they change colours like a chameleon, and this affair is not permissible, what is a must upon the muslim that he fears Allah in every place, in every country.
The Second Advice: To follow up evil deeds with good ones, and so if an evil action occurs from the servant it is upon him to repent to Allah; since the good deeds they expiate and wipe out the evil, and that is from the virtue and blessing of Allah, although this relates to the minor sins, the major must be actually repented from.
The Third Advice: To engage the people with good manners, and indeed the prophet صلى الله عليه و سلم was upon the best of characteristics.
📕[Based on Explanation of 40 hadith Shaikh al-Fawzan p168-172]
[Translator’s note: An excellent advice for us to all remain upright upon the one and only correct methodology, and to practice that openly and secretly in all situations, and not to fall into the chameleon-like behaviour the Shaikh refererred to, since indeed changing colours and having disgraceful double standards is not from the religion of Allah. Similarly an excellent advice for the one who sins to repent to Allah, be sincere in the tawba as is required and not allow whisperings of the Shaitaan to prevent him and continue upon falsehood, since Allah is to be feared and not the people. We ask Allah to give us the ability to implement the advices].

Hadeeth Study: The Best Supplication for the Day of ‘Arafah
Posted on October 14, 2013 by admin
In the Name of Allaah, the Most Gracious, the Ever-Merciful…
The Messenger of Allaah (may Allaah raise his rank and grant him peace) said:
خير الدعاء دعاء يوم عرفة، وخير ما قلت أنا والنبيون من قبلي: لا إله إلا الله وحده لا شريك له، له الملك وله الحمد وهو على كل شيء قدير
“The best supplication is the one made on the Day of ‘Arafah. The best thing ever said by me and the previous prophets is: There is no deity worthy of worship other than Allaah, who is alone, having no partner. His is the dominion, and to Him belongs all praise. He is, of everything, All-Capable.”
The hadeeth was collected by Imam at-Tirmithee and others, and it has been authenticated by the scholars. [1]
14 Points of Benefit Derived From or Related to the Hadeeth:
1 – The Day of ‘Arafah is the ninth day of the month of Thul-Hijjah. The Day of ‘Arafah this year (1438) is Thursday, August 31, 2017. The following day is ‘Eed al-Adh-haa, the second of the two annual holidays in Islam. [2]
2 – The best day of the year to supplicate to Allaah is the Day of ‘Arafah, while the best night for supplication is Laylat al-Qadr in Ramadhan. The Day of ‘Arafah is found within the best ten days of the year, the first ten of Thul-Hijjah, while Laylat al-Qadr is found in the best ten nights of the year, the last ten nights of Ramdhaan. While supplications in general may be made during both great opportunities, both have a specific supplication that stands out as the very best thing to use.
3 – The previous prophets used to remember Allaah with this great supplication.
4 – Allaah’s Power and Capability is unlimited, unrestricted, and always in accordance with His perfect and complete Wisdom. Muslims never describe Allaah with weaknesses, flaws, or inability. These are attributes He has negated in His Book.
5 – You can practice and review your pronunciation of this supplication by using this short MP3 audio file along with this printable text.
6 – You can review your understanding of the basic meanings of this supplication by reviewing this short MP3 audio file.
7 – A du’aa’ (supplication) does not always include a request. Here, the du’aa’ is entirely words of praise, with nothing being directly requested.
8 – While the pilgrims standing on Mt. Arafah during Hajj are in the best position to have their prayers answered, Muslims should take advantage of the virtuous daylight hours of the Day of ‘Arafah wherever they are by supplicating and remembering Allaah, the Most High.
Shaykh Saalih al-Fowzaan concluded that this supplication for the Day of ‘Arafah is for all Muslims everywhere, while of course it is stressed more for the pilgrims on Hajj. [3]
9 – The best way to praise Allaah is to mention His Oneness and sole right to be worshipped alone.
10 – Calling upon Allaah alone is one of the greatest acts of worship one can offer.
11 – Calling upon others besides Allaah is an act of shirk (polytheism), which nullifies all of a person’s deeds. This includes:
Asking the dead (prophets, righteous, etc.) to do something for youAsking the dead (prophets, righteous, etc.) to intercede for you with Allaah
Allaah, the Most High, has said:
وقال ربكم ادعوني أستجب لكم إن الذين يستكبرون عن عبادتي سيدخلون جهنم داخرين
“And your Lord has said: Call upon Me (alone), and I shall respond to you. Verily, those who arrogantly refuse to worship Me (alone) shall enter the Hellfire disgraced.” [4]
12 – Some supplications are better and more beloved to Allaah than others, while this is only known through textual evidence, [5] like in this case.
13 – Supplications made on the Day of ‘Arafah shall be accepted by Allaah, except when a person transgresses by saying or doing things displeasing to Allaah. [6]
Some things which prevent one’s supplications from being answered are: impermissible income or nourishment, hastiness in expecting a response, asking for prohibited things, and saying “in shi’ta” (meaning: “if You will”), or “in shaa’ Allaah” when requesting something.

14 – The add
itional phrase found in some narrations of the hadeeth: ( بيده الخير ) “In His Hand is all goodness”, after the statement, “To Him belongs all praise,” is not authentic as part of the supplication for the Day of ‘Arafah. [7]
And Allaah knows best.

The Virtuous Day of ‘Arafah & Some Points of Benefit Related to It
الحمد لله رب العالمين، والصلاة والسلام على أشرف الأنبياء والمرسلين، نبينا محمد وعلى آله وصحبه أجمعين أما بعد The Excellence of The Day of ‘Arafah 1. Allaah, The Most High states in Hi…
