[The definitions of i'tikâf]

The linguistic definition is: ‘withheld’, ‘to be stuck there’, or ‘to reside there’ and so on. An example is when Allâh says “Look to your idols upon which you 'stuck yourselves to.'" [20:97] and another example in [21:52].

The shar'î definition by the madhâhib:
1) Ahnâf: "Staying in the masjid while fasting with the intention of i’tikâf.”
2) Mâlikiyyah: "The muslim who has intellect ('aql) and stays in the masjid while fasting and stays away from intercourse [etc] and doing this as a means of worship.”
3) Shâfi’iyyah, Hanâbilah and the Thâhiriyyah: “The muslim staying in the masjid, with the intention of i’tikâf and staying away from intercourse [etc].”
• A Brief Denoscription of Some Sects •

√ Al Ashaa'irah - They are the followers of Abu Hassan Al Ash'ari, who was Mu'tazili. Then he left E'tizaal and adopted a way between E'tizaal and Ahl'us Sunnah wal Jama'ah. In his last age, he returned to the creed of Ahl'us Sunnah and followed Imaam Ahmed bin Hanbal in his theories. But some of his followers still remained on previous belief. They amplify the Attributes of Allaah and have belief similar to Al Murji'ah. They regard the speech of Allaah as created and separate from His Self and that Allaah's Speech is without a voice and without a word. They are closest to Ahl'us Sunnah among all strayed sects.

√ Al Jabariyah - They are Al Jahmiyah and all those people who follow them. Their belief is that slaves have no will and power to do good deeds and avoid bad. They are enforced to do all. They believe that action is under the Power of the Lord but not under that of His slaves. Therefore, they are opponent of Al Qadariyah.

√ Al Qadariyah - They are Al Mu'tazilah and all those who agreed with them. Their belief is that Allaah the Exalted has enjoined the slaves to do good and forbid them from evil. He doesn't know His obedient slaves from among disobedient but only after committing the good or bad deeds. They are opponent Al Jabariyah.

√ Al Jahmiyah - They are called the people of nullification or negation. This sect of people came out in the last era of Umawi empire. It belongs to "Jahm bin Safwan" At Tirmidhi. They deny all the Names and Attributes of Allaah, similar to the extremists of Murji'ah and Jabariyah. Al Jahmiyah later included all the cynical groups such as the philosophers, Mu'tazilah, Asha'irah, Qaraamitah, Baatiniyah etc.

√Al Mushabbiha - They are also called Al Mujassimah. They are the opponent of Al Jahmiyah in affirmation of Names and Attributes of Allaah. They believe that Allaah possesses a Hand similar to the hand of creatures, Hearing as the hearing of creatures etc. Exalted is Allaah from what the wrongdoers say about Him. He is High and Great.

√ Al Murji'ah - They believe that Imaan (Faith) is the name of testimony of heart and confession through tongue only. Actions through limbs are not part of Faith. One group of them called Karramiyah says that Imaan is only the confession of tongue. The extremists of them say: "It is only the testimony of heart, and Shahadatain is not to be proclaimed." They say that committing sins does not harm Imaan, and likewise good acts do not benefit in a state of Kufr (disbelief).

√ Al Harooriyah (Al Khawarij) - They are Al Khawarij who rebelled against Ali, radhiAllaahu anhu, when he accepted arbitration with Mu'awiyah, radhiAllaahu anhu. These people gathered in a place called "Haroora" which is located two miles from Kufa and named Harooriyah in this respect.

√ Al Hulooliyah - Those who believe that Allaah is everything and everywhere and vice versa. They are extremists of Al Mushabbiha.

√ Al Rawafid (Al Raafidah) - They are the extremist sect of Shee'ah who gave up Zaid bin Ali bin Hussain when he showed love to Abu Bake and Umar, radhiAllaahu anhum. They disregarded him in Kufa and adopted the same attribute as they have done with his grandfather i.e. Hussain. They keep malice against the Sahaba and revile them.

√ Al Wa'eediyah - They are the same as Qadariyah in the implementation of Wa'eed. They believe that if a person is committing the major sin, dies without repentance, he will in the Hellfire forever. The reason is that Allaah has promised the sinners to Hell and Dooms, and He never breaks His Promise. They believe it is an obligation upon Allaah to punish the sinful and reward the obedient. According to them, it is not permissible to believe that Allaah should pardon a person who dies after committing a major sin without atoning for it. This contradicts verse 48 in Surah an Nisa'.

√ Al Kullabiyah - They are the followers of Abdullaah bin Sayeed bin Kullab. They believe that Attribute of Allaah are not from Him, not for others. They say that the names of Allaah are the same as His Attributes. They d
o not differ between Attributes of Self of Allaah and between Attributes of Actions of Allaah. They regard the speech of Allaah as created and separate from His Self

√ Al Karramiyah - They are the followers of Abu Abdullaah Muhammad bin Karram. As Sijistani who died in 225 H. They are similar to Mushabbiha, Mujassimah, and Murji'ah and divided into 12 sects.

√ Al Nawasib - They are people who have enmity with Ahl'ul Bait, slander them, inflict pain on thrm by word ir act, and consider them disbelievers. They keep themselves uninvolved with the differences that arose among the Sahaba and are opponents of Ar Rawafid.

√ Al Mu'tazilah - Deny the attributes (like Jahmiyah) but prove the names and precepts. They say that Allaah is Knowledgeable without knowledge, He is Powerful without power, He is Alive without life, etc. They regard the speech of Allaah as created and separate from His Self. Believe in Qadr that acts of slaves have been created already for them (like the Qadariyah). They deny the Vision of Allaah on the Day of Judgment and make it obligatory for Allaah to give reward of punishment. They are followers of Wasil bin 'Ala who separated from the companionship of Hasan Al Basree. There are 20 groups of Al Mu'tazilah. Their original creeds are still found these days.

√ Zindeeq - Literally refers to those people who appear to be Muslims outwardly but possess no Islaam inwardly.

√ Al Majoos (Magians) - believed that Allaah and Satan were in competition with one, sometimes overcoming the other. And that Satan created evil while Allaah created good. The Mu'tazilah became the Majoos of the nation because they regarded men as the creator like Allaah. They are the deniers of Qadr.

[Sharh Al Aqeedah Al Wasitiyyah; Shaykh'ul Islaam Ibn Taymiyyah; Commentary by Dr. Muhammad Khalil Harras]
Ibn Maajah (4245) narrated from Thawbaan (may Allah be pleased with him) that the Prophet ﷺ said:

“I certainly know people of my ummah who will come on the Day of Resurrection with good deeds like the mountains of Tihaamah, but Allaah will make them like scattered dust.”
Thawbaan said: O Messenger of Allaah, describe them to us and tell us more, so that we will not become of them unknowingly. He said: “They are your brothers and from your race, worshipping at night as you do, but they will be people who, when they are alone, transgress the sacred limits of Allaah.”

This is a saheeh hadeeth; it was classed as such by al-Buwaysari in Misbaah al-Zujaajah (4/246) and al-Albaani in al-Saheehah. Al-Mundhiri said in al-Targheeb wa’l-Tarheeb (3/170): Its narrators are thiqaat (trustworthy).

Narrated by Mu'āth ibn Jabal that the Messenger of Allah ﷺ said: "Beware of three: the slip of a scholar, the argumentation of a hypocrite, and this world cutting your throats. As for the slip of the scholar, if he guides, do not blindly copy [saying we do as this scholar does] and if he slips, do not lose hope about him. As for the argumentation of a hypocrite using the Qur'an, the Qur'an has a light that illuminates its road: take what you recognize, and what you deny, ask a scholar [of the Qur'an] about it. As for the world cutting your throats, whoever keeps Allah in his heart will be the rich one.

Sayings of the Sahabah on Taqleed:

Abdullaah Ibn Mas’ud (radiyallaahu ’anhu) said, “Let not one of you blindly follow a man in his Religion, if he believes, he believes, and if he disbelieves, he disbelieves. If it is a must that you follow someone then let it be the dead, for indeed the living is not safe from fitnah.” [Sharh Usoolul-I’tiqaad (1/130) of al-Laalikaa‘ee and Shaykhul Islaam Ibn Qayyim al-Jawziyyah's Al Fawaaid: P.162]

Mu’aadh bin Jabal (radiallah anhu) said: “As for the Mistake of an Aalim then do not do his taqleed (i.e blindly follow him) in the deen even if he is on guidance.” [Kitaab az-Zuhud by Imaam Wakee: Vol 1 Pg 300 H 71, Chain Hasan, Imaam Ibn Abdil Birr has recorded this in his Al-Jaamee; Ibn Hazam’s Ahkaam and authenticated by Daraqutnee]

Authentic Quotes
Prophet ﷺ said: “Laylat al-Qadr is a pleasant night, neither hot nor cold, and the following day, the sun rises red and weak.”

● [Saheeh ibn Khuzaymah #2912]
Irrespective of what one's intentions are, with the social media, selfies and video recordings, it has become almost impossible to hide the good deeds and not to discuss about it....

Narrated Abu Hurairah رضي الله عنه: The Prophet ﷺ said: ❝Allaah will give shade, to seven, on the Day when there will be no shade but His. (among these seven persons are): a man who gives charity so secretly that his left-hand does not know what his right hand has given. ❞ [Saheehain]

(meaning: nobody knows how much he has given in charity)
