Be The Key To Goodness

Prophet Muḥammad Ṣallallāhu-ʿAlaihi Wa Sallam said:

*“Indeed, from amongst mankind are those who are KEYS to GOODNESS (and) LOCKS to EVIL and indeed from amongst mankind are those who are KEYS to EVIL (and) LOCKS to GOODNESS, so GLAD-TIDINGS to the one for whom Allāh has placed the keys to goodness in his hand and WOE to the one for whom Allāh has placed the keys to evil in his hand.”*

The Essential Characteristics of the Hypocrites in Personality...

From Abu Hurairah (radiyallaahu 'anhu) who said that Allaah's Messenger said:

''Two characteristics are not found together in a hypocrite: good manners and [good] understanding of the Religion [of Islam].''

[Reported by At-Tirmidhee (no.2685)]
Envy Is A Burning Coal

The Noble Scholar Ibn 'Uthaymīn [رحمه الله] said:

«الحسدُ جمرةٌ في القلب والعياذ بالله، كلَّما أنعم الله على عبده نعمة احترق هذا القلب والعياذ بالله حيث أنعم الله تعالى على عباده، فتجدهُ دائماً في نكد ودائماً في قلق.»

❝Envy is a burning coal in the heart and Allāh's refuge is sought. Everytime Allāh bestows a blessing upon His worshipper this heart becomes inflamed and Allāh's refuge is sought because Allāh the Most-High bestows a blessing upon His worshippers, so you find the envious person always miserable and with worry.❞

[Sharh Riyādh As-Sālihīn, (6/249) | Translated by Abbās Abu Yahya, Mirāth al-Anbiyya]
Be PATIENT ‼️

Ibn al-Jawzi (رحمة الله):

"Understand that life has occasions. One time it is poverty, and another time it is wealth. Once it is honour, and another it is humiliation. Happy is he is who remains grounded in each situation."

[Sayd al-Khatir [p.282]
‎How the salaf recognized good people

‎Fudayl ibn iyad رحمه الله said:

‎We do not recognize one [merely] due to his many prayers & fasting;

‎Rather what we recognise is generosity, openness, being good natured & to give sincere advice to the ummah.

‎Jaami-ul uloom wal-Hikam: page: 91
On the authority of Usama bin Shareek in a narration ascribed to the Prophet [ﷺ]:

❝Do not do in secret that which you would dislike the people to see you do.❞

[Silsilah Ahadeeth As-Saheehah of Shaykh Al-Albaani, (No. 1055) | Translated By Abbas Abu Yahya Miraath al-Anbiyya]
The Prophet (Sallahu alaihi wa sallam) said:

“Whoever is mainly concerned about the Hereafter, Allaah will make him feel independent of others and will make him focused and content, and his worldly affairs will fall into place. But whoever is mainly concerned with this world, Allaah will make him feel in constant need of others and will make him distracted and unfocused, and he will get nothing of this world except what is decreed for him.”

(Narrated by al-Tirmidhi, 2389; classed as saheeh by Shaykh al-Albaani in Saheeh al-Jaami’, 6510).
Ibn `Umar used to say, "If you survive till the evening, do not expect to be alive in the morning, and if you survive till the morning, do not expect to be alive in the evening, and take(advantage) from your health for your sickness, and (take) from your life for your death."

[Saheeh Al-Bukhari]

The Prophet Sallahu alaihi wa sallam said : "If you all depend on Allah with due reliance, He would certainly give you provision as He gives it to birds who go forth hungry in the morning and return with full belly at dusk".

[At-Tirmidhi]. Saheeh – [Saheeh Al jaami 5254]
✦ Helping others ✦

Shaykh Muḥammad b. Ṣāliḥ al- ʿUthaymīn رحمه الله said:

“Whenever you fulfil the needs of your brother, Allāh will fulfil your needs.”

[Sharḥ Riyāḍ aṣ-Ṣāliḥīn]
Ibn Umar–[kind treatment towards animals]

Wahb Ibn Kaysaan (rahimahullaah) narrated that Ibn Umar (radiyallaahu-anhu) saw a shepherd and some sheep in a filthy place, and he saw (another) place better than it. So he said to the shepherd: Woe to you, O shepherd! Move your sheep (to the better place); for indeed I heard the Messenger of Allah (sallal-laahu-alayhi-wasallam) saying: ”Every shepherd is responsible for his flock.” [1]

Shaikh Zaid Bin Haadi (rahimahullaah) said: This hadeeth shows the obligation of kind treatment towards those under one’s care, whether a human being or cattle…. [2]

In the midst of an explanation of surah al-Hadeed, sheikh Salih al-Fawzan mentioned the following point:

[فليس المقصود أنك تحفظ القرآن عن ظهر قلب ، وأنك تقرؤه بتجويد وصوت الحسن ، ليس هذا هو المقصود ، هذا وسيلة إلى التدبر ، والتدبر وسيلة إلى الخشوغ والعمل . وأما مجرد أن تحفظ القرآن وتتلوه وتجيد تلاوته ، فهذا ليس هو المقصود .]

"The point is not that you memorize the Qur'an by heart and recite it with tajweed and a nice voice. That is not the end goal; that is just a means to contemplating the Qur'an, and contemplating is a means to having khushoo' and acting according to the Qur'an. As for merely memorizing the Qur'an, reciting it and beautifying your recitation - that is not the end goal."

[Tafsir Hizb al-Mufassal 1/394]
Know, my son, that my father was a rich man who left wealth worth thousands behind him. When I reached puberty, I was given twenty dinars and two houses and I was told it was all he had left. I took the dinars and bought books of Sacred Knowledge with them. I sold the houses and spent the money in my pursuit of knowledge. Nothing remained of the wealth I had inherited. Your father has never humiliated himself in his quest for knowledge nor has he gone around cities like other preachers have. He has never sent a note asking something from others and all his affairs are running smoothly:

٢ وَمَنْ يَتَّقِ اللَّهَ يَجْعَلْ لَهُ مَخْرَجًا
٣ وَيَرْزُقْهُ مِنْ حَيْثُ لَا يَحْتَسِبُ

For him who fears Allāh, He shall make a way out and provide for him from places he could not expect.

Taqwa, Knowledge and Beauty

It is reported that Abū Al-Dardā – Allāh be pleased with him – said:
You will never be pious (a person of taqwā) until you become knowledgeable, and you will never be beautiful with your knowledge until you act [by it].

Ibn Ábd Al-Barr, Jāmi’ Bayān Al-‘Ilm wa Faḍlihī article 1239.

Umm Salamah رضي الله عنها said, “Never did the Prophet صلى الله عليه وسلم leave my house without looking towards heaven, supplicating:

الَّهُمَّ إِنِّي أَعُوذُ بِكَ أَنْ أَضِلَّ، أَوْ أُضَلَّ، أَوْ أَزِلَّ، أَوْ أُزَلَّ، أَوْ أَظْلِمَ، أَوْ أُظْلَمَ، أَوْ أَجْهَلَ، أَوْ يُجْهَلَ عَلَيَّ

Allaahumma ‘innee ‘a’oodhu bika ‘an ‘adhilla, ‘aw ‘udhalla, ‘aw ‘azilla, ‘aw ‘uzalla, ‘aw ‘adhlima, ‘aw ‘udhlama, ‘aw ‘ajhala ‘aw yujhala ‘alayya

O Allah, I seek refuge in You lest I misguide others, or I am misguided by others, lest I cause others to err or I am caused to err, lest I abuse others or be abused, and lest I behave foolishly or meet with the foolishness of others.

Question: When I go out on excursions with a group of friends, I take pictures to keep them as mementos. What is the ruling on taking pictures for this purpose?

Answer: The ruling is this practice is that it is unlawful, that is, if the picture is taken of something with a soul (a human or an animal), The Prophet (sallallaahu alaihi wa sallam) said: The people who will be most severely punished on the Day of Judgement will be the picture-makers. [1] The Prophet (sallallaahu alaihi wa sallam) also cursed those who make pictures. As for taking pictures of things without a soul – a car, a plane, a tree, etc., – there is no harm in that. And with Allaah is the facilitation to do what is right.

Question: What is the ruling on photography?

Shaykh Muhammad bin Hādī Al-Madkhalī said:

“My position on this is well known, and the speech of the scholars about this is well-known. It is not permissible except where necessity calls for it. So if there is a necessity such as a license, card, a situation, passport or any official documentation where work depends on or matters relating to your life depend on there is no problem in that because necessity makes the forbidden permissible. The origin for this is His – جلا وعلا‏ – statement: “[…] He has explained to you in detail what is forbidden to you, except under compulsion of necessity.” [Al-An’am 6:119]. So if there is a necessity then there is no problem, but apart from that, then no.”

WITH GOOD MANNERS.....

Yoonus ibn ‘Ubayd (d.139H) – rahimahullaah -said:

“With good manners you understand the knowledge...
With knowledge your actions are corrected...
With actions wisdom is obtained...
With wisdom you understand zuhd (abstinence) and are granted its benefits...
With zuhd comes abandoning the world...
With abandoning the world comes desire for the Hereafter...
With desire for the Hereafter the pleasure of Allaah – the Mighty and Majestic – is obtained.”
