The Excellence Of The Day Of ‘Arafah

Allaah, The Most High states in His Book:

﴿وَالْيَوْمِ الْمَوْعُودِ وَشَاهِدٍ وَمَشْهُود﴾‏

❝And by the Promised Day [i.e. the Day of Resurrection]; And by the witnessing day [i.e. Friday], and by the witnessed day [i.e. the day of 'Arafat [Hajj] the ninth of Dhul-Hijjah]…❞

[Qur’ān, Surah Al-Burooj, (2-3) | Translated By Dr. Muhammad Muhsin Khan]

-

From Abee Hurairah [رضي الله عنه] who said that the Prophet [ﷺ] said:

❝The Promised Day is: The Day of Resurrection; and the day which is witnessed is: the day of ‘Arafah; and the witness is: the day of Friday. And the sun has not risen nor has it set upon a day that is better than it. In it is an hour in which a believing servant does not coincide supplicating to Allaah for good – except that Allaah will answer him; and nor does he seek refuge from anything except Allaah will grant him refuge from it.❞

[Reported By At-Tirmidhee | Al-‘Allaamah Al-Albaanee: 'Hasan' In His Saheeh Sunan At-Tirmidhee, (No. 3339) | Translated By Abū Haatim M. Farooq]

-

Ibn Rajab [رحمه الله] said:

❝Upon this basis; if the day of ‘Arafah falls on a Friday – then there is incorporated into that day the witness and the witnessed.❞

[Lataa-if Wal Ma’aarif, (Page: 375) | Translated By Abū Haatim M. Farooq]

-

From ‘Umar Bin Al-Khattaab [رضي الله عنه] that a man from the Jews said to him:

❝'O leader of the believers; there is an Aayah in your Book which you read; if it had been revealed to the like of us Jews then we would have taken that day as an ‘Eid.' So he said: 'which Aayah is that?' he said:

﴿الْيَوْمَ أَكْمَلْتُ لَكُمْ دِينَكُمْ وَأَتْمَمْتُ عَلَيْكُمْ نِعْمَتِي وَرَضِيتُ لَكُمُ الْإسْلامَ دِينًا﴾‏

«This day I have perfected for you your religion and completed My favour upon you and have chosen for you Islaam as your religion» [Al-Maa-idah: 3]

So ‘Umar said: 'Indeed we know of that day as well as the place in which it was revealed upon the Prophet [ﷺ] - and he was standing at ‘Arafaat on a Friday.'❞

[Reported By Al-Bukhārī, (No. 45) | Muslim, (No. 7443) | Translated By Abū Haatim M. Farooq]

-

From ‘Aisha [رضي الله عنها] who said that the Messenger of Allaah [ﷺ] said:

❝There is no day in which Allaah sets free more slaves from the Hell-Fire than He does on the Day of ‘Arafah.❞

[Reported By Muslim, (No. 1277) | Translated By Abū Haatim M. Farooq]
The Tabi'ee, Maymoon ibn Mihraan, stated,

"I met the people, and they were making Takbeer during the ten, to the point it was almost like waves due to how abundant they were."

Fath-ul-Baaree of Ibn Rajab (9/9)
Sometimes when we’re experiencing hardships in our lives we fail to see Allāh’s Wisdom and Mercy in the hardships. We become consumed with the hardship itself. However difficult the hardships may be, Allāh always helps the believers and intends good for them. Indeed, Allāh has His plans.🥀🌸

Never let your hardship fool you into thinking Allāh doesn't love you. It's through hardships that Allāh tests you, removes your sins, purifies your soul, makes you believe nothing lasts forever, and that with patience you can find peace and the Mercy of Allāh encompasses all things. May Allāh, Most High, grant you all ease and well-being.🤲🏿🥀🌺
YOU CAN ALWAYS HAVE YOUR WAY IN LIFE

"Do not belittle the power of Dua as nothing is powerful than your Dua. Even when you can see that the acceptance of your Dua is late. Be assured that every measure of life can change when a believing mind supplicates.

Always remember that Nooh ('alayhis Salaam) drowned the whole earth when he supplicated, ' I'm incapacitated, so help me!' while Sulaymaan ('alayhis Salaam) dominated the land, the sea and the air when he supplicated, 'and endow me a kingship... '.

So, no matter the enormity of your request, always remember Allaah's Magnificent Might."

IBN QAYYIM on ‘Heedlessness’

“If heedlessness (al-ghafla) of Allāh and the Hereafter is coupled with following ones' own whims and desires, then only evil emanates from such a relation - and it is often that both exist hand in hand and • never apart from each other.

If a person ponders on the corrupt state of the world, in general and in particular, one will understand that heedlessness stands as a barrier between the servant [of Allāh] and understanding and knowing Allah. Following of whims and desires keep one away from searching for the truth and following it.

In the case of the former, such a person becomes from those who are astray, and in the case of the latter, he becomes among those upon whom Allāh evoked His Anger.”

Ibn Al-Qayyim, may Allāh have mercy on him, said: "That which is more virtuous during the (first) ten days of Dhul-Hijjah, is to increase in worship, especially in Takbīr (saying Allāhu Akbar), Tahlīl (saying Lā Ilāha Illa Allāh), and Tahmīd (saying Alhamdu Lillāh), for that is superior than the Jihād which is not Fardh 'Ayn (obligatory upon every individual)."

How the Salaf applied the prophet (PBUH)'s hadith in daily life

From Anas ibn Malik, from Allah’s Messenger, who said: “None of you has believed until he loves for his brother what he loves for himself.” [Bukhari and Muslim]

The servant of Jarir bin Abdullah Al-Bajali purchased a horse on his behalf for 300. When Jarir saw it he was impressed but feared that the seller had been exploited. He went to him and informed him that the horse was worth more than 300. He kept insisting on increasing the price until he gave him 800.

The Day of ‘Arafah

'Abdullāh Ibn Mubārak رحمه الله:

"I entered upon Sufyān al-Thawrī on the evening of 'Arafah whilst he was kneeling on his knees and his eyes shedding tears, so he turned towards me and I said to him:

Do you know who the loser is today?

He replied:

The one who thinks Allāh shall not forgive him!

Allah has given us the gift of du’a, to ask Him. if it is something that will bring peace, Allah makes it happen at the right time. but if it’s something that’s not khair for us, Allah grants us better. there is peace in knowing Allah will grant you what is best for you.
💯1
DU'AA IS THE WEAPON OF THE BELIEVERS:

Allah Ta'ala says (what means)

Invoke your Lord with humility and in secret. He likes not the aggressors [Suratul Araaf 7:55].

That which befalls a man was not going to miss him as it is by the Qadr (Decree) of Allah Ta'ala, and which misses a man was not to befall him for that to is from the Qadr (Decree) of Allah Ta'ala. Man moves between his limited free will and the Will of Allah Ta'ala while never being able to overcome the Will of Allah except by the Will and Mercy of Allah Ta'ala.

Shaykh al-Islam Ibn Taymiyah said in Majmoo’ al-Fataawa (8/69):

If a person says that he does not say du’aa’ or ask of Allaah, because he relies on the divine decree, he is also erring, because Allaah has made du’aa’ and asking means of attaining His forgiveness, mercy, guidance, support and provision. If good is decreed for a person he will attain by means of du’aa’ what he cannot attain without du’aa’. What Allaah has decreed and knows with regard to His slaves’ circumstances and destinies is only decreed on the basis of means, and decrees will be fulfilled at the appointed times. There is everything that happens in this world or in the Hereafter happens on the basis of cause and effect; Allaah is the Creator of both cause and effect.

Allah Ta'ala says (what means)

And (all) the Most Beautiful Names belong to Allaah, so call on Him by them [Suratul Araaf 7:180].

Aisha reported: The Messenger of Allah, peace and blessings be upon him, taught her among the comprehensive supplications, “O Allah, I ask You for Your every decree upon me to be good.”

Imaam Ibn al-Qayyim (may Allaah have mercy on him) said:

Duaas and taawwudhaat [prayers seeking refuge with Allaah] are like a weapon, and a weapon is only as good as the person who is using it; it is not merely the matter of how sharp it is. If the weapon is perfect and free of faults, and the arm of the person using it is strong, and there is nothing stopping him, then he can lay waste the enemy. But if any of these three features is lacking, then the effect will be lacking accordingly.

(al-Daa wal-Dawaa, p. 35).

Ibn al-Qayyim (may Allaah have mercy on him) said in al-Jawaab al-Kaafi (p. 4):

Du’aa’ is one of the most beneficial of remedies; it is the enemy of calamity; it wards it off, remedies it, prevents it befalling, alleviates it or reduces it if it befalls. It is the weapon of the believer. In the case of calamity, one of three scenarios must apply:

1.It (du’aa’) is stronger than the calamity, so it wards it off;

2.It is weaker than the calamity, so the calamity overpowers it and befalls the person, but it may reduce it even if it is weak;

3.They resist one another and each impedes the other.

Wearing good clothes is not always a sign of showoff

Abu al-Ahwas quoted his father saying:

I came to the Prophet ( صلى الله عليه وسلم) wearing a poor garment and he said (to me): ‚Have you any property?‛
He replied: ‚Yes.‛ He asked: ‚What kind is it?‛ He said: ‚Allah has given me camels, sheep, horses and slaves.‛ He then said: ‚When Allah gives you property, let the mark of Allah's favour and honour to you be seen.‛ [An Nasai 5224, Sahih]

Definition of: al-Hamm (الهم), al-Hazn (الحزن), al-Ghamm (الغم)

Ibn al-Qayyim رحمه الله said:

❝There are three passive feelings which affect the heart:

1) If it is related to the past, then it causes al-Hazn (sorrow/distress).

2) If it is related to the future, then it causes al-Hamm (anxiety/worry).

3) If it is related to the present, then it causes al-Ghamm (grief).❞

📚 [al-Fawaaid (1/26)]

🌴🌴🌴

📑 Note:

1) al-Hazn is related to the loss in the past, either the passing away of someone, or losing something, or recalling the time spent with the loved ones. Like how Yaqoob عليه السلام felt at the loss of his most beloved son, Yusuf عليه السلام, when he said:

إِنَّمَا أَشْكُو بَثِّي وَحُزْنِي إِلَى اللَّـهِ

{I only complain of my grief and sorrow to Allaah}
📚 [Surah Yusuf (12): 86]

2) al-Hamm is related to the loss one anticipates which causes him to worry about his future. Example: students worrying about their results, parents worrying about the future of their children, etc.

The Prophet ﷺ used to supplicate, saying:

اللَّهُمَّ إِنِّي أَعُوذُ بِكَ مِنَ الْهَمِّ وَالْحَزَنِ

“O Allaah! I seek refuge with You from worry and grief…”
📚 [Saheeh al-Bukhaaree (2893, 5425, 6363, 6369)]

3) al-Ghamm is related to the grief felt at the time of losing something or someone, i.e. what is related to the present. Example: when Yunus عليه السلام was in the belly of the whale (or big fish), Allaah تعالى relieved him of his suffering, saying:

فَاسْتَجَبْنَا لَهُ وَنَجَّيْنَاهُ مِنَ الْغَمِّ

{So We answered his call, and delivered him from the grief}
📚 [Surah al-Anbiyaa (21): 88]

NOBODY SHALL ENTER PARADISE BEFORE PURIFICATION.

Imām Ibn Al-Qayyim رحمه الله said:

“It is not possible for the servant to enter Paradise without purification. The servant is purified by way of four things in the worldly life:

1. Repentance.
2. Seeking forgiveness.
3. Good deeds which wipe away evil deeds.
4. Calamities which expiate sins.

If these four things are not enough to purify and cleanse the servant, he is purified by way of three things in Barzakh:

1. People of Imān praying over him and interceding by seeking forgiveness for him.
2. Trials and tribulations of the grave.
3. Charitible actions pledged on his behalf from his Muslim brothers.

If these three things are not enough to purify him, he is purified at the place of standing by way of three things:

1. Fright of resurrection and severity of the place of standing.
2. The intercession of the intercessors.
3. Forgiveness of Allāh, The Mighty and Majestic.

If these three things are not enough to purify him, then the Hellfire will cleanse him and purify him from his evil. He will abide therein according to the severity of his evil and how much he possess. When he becomes pure and good and the evil has departed, he will exit the Hellfire and enter Paradise.”

💡You Can't Make it Up, So Take Advantage of it. 💡

Imām an-Nawawī (رحمه الله) advices you to invest in the day of #Arafah and says that it is not possible to make it up.

The Imām (رحمه الله) said:

"This is the best day in the year for supplicating, thus it befits a person to fully devote his efforts in making Dhikr, Du'ā' and reciting the Qur'ān; and he should supplicate with the different kinds of Du'ās and read the different kinds of Dhikr. He should supplicate for himself, his parents, relatives, Mashāyikh, companions, friends, loved ones and any one else who was good to him as well as all the Muslims. And let him be fully cautious from falling short in any of these as this day cannot be made up."

Duaa is a powerful tool that Allah ﷻ has gifted us.

It’s so beautiful that our Merciful Lord and beloved Prophet Muḥammad ﷺ taught us so many compelling supplications/affirmations for any given time, and when experiencing different emotions.

In Surah Al-Baqarah Ayat 186 Allah ﷻ says “When My servants ask you [O Prophet] about Me: I am truly near. I respond to the one’s prayer when they call upon Me. So let them respond [with obedience] to Me and believe in Me, perhaps they will be guided [to the right way].”

Let’s learn these incredible supplications, and use them to self sooth and get through feeling anxious.

🤍

Abū Saʿīd al-Khudrī (raḍiy Allāhu ʿanhu) narrated that one day, the Messenger of Allah ﷺ entered the masjid. He saw a man from the Anṣār called Abū Umāmah (raḍiy Allāhu ʿanhu). He ﷺ asked, “What is the matter? Why are you sitting in the mosque when it is not the time for prayer?” He replied, “Never-ending worries and debts, O Messenger of Allah.”

The Messenger of Allah ﷺ then asked, “Shall I not teach you words by which, when you say them, Allah will remove your worries, and settle your debts?” He replied, “Yes of course, O Messenger of Allah.”

He ﷺ said, “Say in the morning and evening [the above].” Abū Umāmah (raḍiy Allāhu ʿanhu) said, “Then I did that, and Allah removed my anxieties and settled my debts.”

[Abū Dāwūd 1555]

🤍

These duaa remind us that we can get closer to Allah ﷻ through submission to Him and acknowledging that He is in control of all things.

We can consider the concept of countering negative emotions with positive actions. Duaa during times of distress can counteract negative emotions and open up a more objective and reflective attitude.

The consistency of reciting specific duaa can act as a form of mindfulness. And when it becomes automatic during times of distress/anxiety/sadness, it can help to quell these emotions.

Allāh's Messenger ﷺ said:

"A man will be brought on the Day of Resurrection and will be cast into Hell: his intestines will pour forth and he will go round them as a donkey goes round a millstone."

The inmates of Hell will gather round him and say: "What has happened to you, O so-and-so? Were you not enjoining us to do good and forbidding us to evil?"

He will reply: "I was enjoining you to do good, but was not doing it myself; and I was forbidding you to do evil, but was doing it my self."

Question: Why is ‘Eed named with this name?

📌Answer: “‘Eed is called ‘Eed because ‘Eed means ‘to return’ which indicates that this day returns again every year. It returns with delight and happiness.”
