The borrower's delay in repaying the debt

The first and third questions of Fatwa no. 4789

Q 1: Around seven years ago, someone came to me and asked me to lend him 1,000 Riyals and in return, after one full year, he would give me 90 Sa‘s (1 Sa‘ = 2.172 kg) of coffee. So I gave him the 1,000 Riyals in cash.

This sum of money that I gave him belonged to an orphan, with whose finances I am entrusted. The person who borrowed the money is a rich man. More than six years have passed now, without him settling the debt. The price of a Sa‘ of the good coffee (Yemeni coffee) that we agreed upon at the time of the loan was between 30 to 35 Riyals, and the price of a Sa‘ of this type of coffee is now 70 Riyals. Please give me a Fatwa (legal opinion issued by a qualified Muslim scholar) on this matter to clear my conscience about this, as I only intended to do good for the owner of this money and the debtor. May Allah accept what you do for the good of Islam and Muslims.

A: If the reality is as you have mentioned, you have to ask the debtor for the coffee that you paid in advance for to be delivered to you later on. It is not permissible to take a substitute, not money or anything else, except if, when the orphan reaches the age of discernment, they agree to take the capital. It will be permissible for them to take either the capital only or ask for the coffee.

PLEASE ALLĀH INSTEAD OF PLEASING PEOPLE

A person must intend to obey Allāh even if that resulted in angering people, because he will end up getting humiliated and the same people he tried to please will turn against him.

So he will loose from both ends.

The virtue of helping any muslim

RasoolAllah ﷺ said It is more beloved to me that I walk with my brother Muslim in his time of need than I stay secluded (perform aitkaf) in this masjid (Masjid e Nabwi) for a month.

RasoolAllah ﷺ said Whoever fulfilled the needs of his brother, Allah will fulfill his needs; whoever brought his (Muslim) brother out of a discomfort, Allah will bring him out of the discomforts of the Day of Resurrection, and whoever screened (hide mistakes) a Muslim, Allah will screen him on the Day of Resurrection .

Believe me, I know how difficult it can be to find hope when everything feels so very dark.

Fear ends.

In time, you will find your way again.

As you lie in pain, waiting for your life to change, remember that Allah has a plan for you and it is good! Allah never disappoints His believing slaves.

And if you ever feel your trials are never ending....
Remember what Imam Ahmad told his son..

In this life of poverty, hardship and trials, Abdullah ibn Ahmad asked his father Imam Ahmad ibn Hanbal one day, “Abi when will we ever relax?” His father, one of the greatest revivers of the Sunnah, a role model for all Muslims, looked him in the eye and said, “With the first step we take into Jannah.”

❝Had Allah lifted the veil for his slave and shown him how He handles his affairs for him, and how Allah is more keen for the benefit of the slave than his own self, his heart would have melted out of the love for Allah and would have been torn to pieces out of thankfulness to Allah. Therefore if the pains of this world tire you do not grieve. For it may be that Allah wishes to hear your voice by way of duaa. So pour out your desires in prostration and forget about it and know; that verily Allah does not forget it.❞

*The Will of Shaykh al-Albāni,*

May Allāh Bestow Mercy Upon Him and Grant Him the Highest Abode in Paradise For His Service to the Religion of Islām.*

I advise my loved ones; my wife, my children and my friends to supplicate to Allāh for His forgiveness and mercy when they receive the news of my passing.

Firstly, I request that they refrain from wailing loudly or crying excessively.

Secondly, I urge them to bury me as soon as possible without informing any of my relatives or friends except those necessary for the burial arrangements. I also request that my neighbour and sincere friend, ’Izzat Khidr Abu ‘Abd-Allāh, be responsible for washing my body with the help of anyone he chooses.

Thirdly, I would like to be buried in the closest graveyard available to avoid being transported in a car. I also request that the followers of the funeral procession do not ride in cars. Furthermore, I prefer an old graveyard to ensure that the graves will not be exhumed. Moreover, I ask those who reside in the same area where I pass away not to inform my children who live in other places until after my burial. This is to prevent them from being overwhelmed with emotions and to avoid any delay in the funeral.

I beseech Allāh, that I meet Him, while having my past and future sins forgiven.

I also bequeath my entire library of printed books, copies, and manunoscripts - that of my handwriting and the handwriting of others - to the library of the Islamic University of al-Madeenah, because it holds good memories for me - in inviting to the Book and the Sunnah and following the methodology of the pious predecessors and successors, during my teaching tenure.

My hope is that Allāh makes this resource a source of benefit for the leaders of the da'wah in that region, just as its previous owner had benefited the students there in the past. I pray that through their support and supplications, Allah will continue to guide me and enable me to serve others with sincerity.

“My Lord! Inspire me to ˹always˺ be thankful for Your favours which You blessed me and my parents with, and to do good deeds that please You. And instil righteousness in my offspring. I truly repent to You, and I truly submit ˹to Your Will˺.”

There are some people who Are very selfish and with dead hearts , they try to create problems for those who are already going through problems and hardships , we never know that Allah may fill their life with problems so that they Taste their own medicine .. beware !

Maymūn Ibn Mihrān said:

"Patience (sabr) is of two types: being patient over misfortunes (musība) and being patient in avoiding sins (ma'siya). The first is good, but the second is better."🪅🩶

The Humour of The Sahābah: Throwing Melon Peels/Rinds At Each other

Bakr ibn ‘Abdullāh reported that the Companions of the Prophet ﷺ, used to throw melon [rinds] at each other [for fun], but if matters became serious, they would be real men.

Adāb al-Mufrad [no. 266]. Classed as Sahīh by Shaykh Al-Albānī in Sahīh Adāb al-Mufrad [no. 201].

Reflections:

- What is meant here is the rind/peel of melons and not the melon itself as understood by many.

- The Sahābah were men who would joke around at times without going into the extremes, but when it was time to be serious they would be more then anyone else.

- The companions would laugh amongst themselves whilst their faith was like mountains in strength.

- This is moderate, Islamically acceptable humour, which does not go beyond the bounds of truth or manhood of a person. Rather, it serves its purpose of refreshing hearts and minds.

- We learn balance from the life of the companions who are the best of generations to follow.

- To strengthen the bonds of brotherhood, light banter is sometimes needed.

Never hurt anyone. Because when you hurt, you're not just hurting them. You are instilling pain, fear, insecurities, self doubts, negative thoughts, traumas and many more. You can hurt someone in a second but its effect may last a lifetime.

You don't know how much work this person will have to do to pick up the pieces and pull himself back together, to learn to trust someone again, they may deal with it in a very long time.

Indeed not everyone has the same kind and loving heart, some hearts are vulnerable and some hearts are cold but both can still feel pain and that's why you have to be kind and be merciful to everyone. Don't be a reason for someone's tears in their sujood.

Forgotten Sunnah — Method to Dispel Anxiety, Grief, Restlessness, Rusty Limbs during ‘Ibadah, Imaan Lows or Dips and General Uneasiness Caused by (Unknown) Sins❗️

Abu Bakr al-Siddîq رضي الله عنه said: I heard the Messenger of Allâh ﷺ say:

There is no one who commits a sin then purifies himself well and stands and prays two rak’ahs, then asks Allâh for forgiveness, except that Allâh will forgive him.

Then he recited this verse:

‘And those who, when they have committed Fâhishah (evil, indecencies, shameful deeds) or wronged their selves with evil, remember Allâh and ask forgiveness for their sins; — and none can forgive sins but Allâh — and do not persist in what (wrong) they have done, while they know’ [Âl-e-‘Imrân, 3:135].

Be optimistic have Tawakkal on Allah سُبْحَانَهُ وَتَعَالَى‎ as continous sadness does not benefit

'AND REMIND, FOR INDEED THE REMINDER BENEFITS THE BELIEVERS!'

As Muslims our ultimate goal is to attain Allāh's love and stay clear of His wrath.

But how do we achieve that?

The simple answer is - do all that Allāh loves and stay away from all that He dislikes.

So what does Allāh love?
And what does He dislike?

“those who fear Him” [3 - 76]

“those who follow the Prophet” [3 - 31]

“those who do good” [3 - 134]

“those who uphold justice” [49 - 9]

“those who rely on Him” [3- 159]

“those who are firm and steadfast” [3 - 146]

“those who fight in His cause” [61 - 4]

“those who are repentant” [2 - 222]

“those who purify themselves” [2 - 222]

“disbelievers” [3 - 32]

“evildoers” [4 - 107]

“oppressors” [3 - 57]

The example of the person who recites the Qur'an

Narrated Abu Musa radi Allahu Anhu The Prophet (ﷺ) said, "The example of a believer who recites the Qur'an and acts on it, like a citron which tastes nice and smells nice. And the example of a believer who does not recite the Qur'an but acts on it, is like a date which tastes good but has no smell. And the example of a hypocrite who recites the Qur'an is like a Raihana (sweet basil) which smells good but tastes bitter And the example of a hypocrite who does not recite the Qur'an is like a colocynth which tastes bitter and has abad smell."

Narrated Uqbah ibn Amir al-Juhani The Prophet (ﷺ) said: One who recites the Qur'an in a loud voice is like one who gives alms openly; and one who recites the Qur'an quietly is one who gives alms secretly.

Wrong terminology..

Many people say about a righteous person who was afflicted:

“Poor person, he does not deserve this.”

Ibn Al-Jawzi (rahimahullah) said:

“This is a rebuke of the decree.”

(Tayseer Al-‘Azeez Al-Hameed pg. 683)

Between prosperity and destruction

Ibn al-Qayyim, may Allah have mercy on him (d. 751 AH), said:

ابن القيم: فما خراب العالم إلا بالجهل، ولا عمارته إلا بالعلم، وإذا ظهر العلم في بلد أو محلة قل الشر في أهلها، وإذا خفى العلم هناك ظهر الشر والفساد. ومن لم يعرف هذا فهو ممن لم يجعل الله له نورا. قال الإمام أحمد: ولولا العلم كان الناس كالبهائم

"The destruction of this world is only a consequence of ignorance, and its prosperity is only possible through Islamic knowledge. If knowledge appears in a country or locality, evil decreases among its inhabitants, and if knowledge disappears (or is hidden), evil and injustice appear. And whoever does not know this is one of those to whom Allah has not given light. Imam Ahmad (d. 241 AH) said: 'If it were not for Islamic knowledge, people would be like animals.'"

📖I'lam al-Muwaqqi'in

Prophet Muhammad ﷺ said, “The one who is bankrupt among my ummah is the one who will come on the Day of Resurrection with prayer, fasting and zakaah, but he will come having insulted this one, slandered that one, consumed the wealth of this one, shed the blood of that one and beaten this one. They will each be given from his good deeds, and if his good deeds run out before the scores have been settled, some of their bad deeds will be taken and cast upon him, then he will be thrown into Hell.” [Muslim 2581]

*The Two Cures*

Ibn Al-Qayyim [رحمه الله] said:

Soorah Al-Fatiha comprises of two types of cures:

1. Cure for hearts
2. Cure for bodies

I used to be affected by pains and I would hasten to read Soorah Al-Fatiha and wipe myself with it, and it was as if pebbles would fall off me.

The life passes between dreams and wishes, but nothing happens except as what Allaah has already decreed for you. So, rely on Allaah and be assured for the best!!!

Allaah تعالى said:

{Say: "Nothing shall ever happen to us except what Allaah has ordained for us. He is our Maula (Lord, Helper and Protector)." And in Allaah let the believers put their trust.}
📚[Surah al-Tawbah (9): 51]

Do Not Grieve Over The Past

Shaykh AbduRahmaan As-Sa'adi [رحمه الله] said:

❝Do not grieve over past matters which have not been destined, from ill health, or loss of wealth or a worldly matter, etc.

Your concern should be with rectification of actions on the day.
Since a person is living in the moment. He should not be saddened for what has passed. Also he should not research into the future where that research would not be of any benefit.

It is upon you to be truthful, fulfill your contracts, keep to one's promises and justice in all dealings.

Fulfilling rights completely and perfectly with a tranquil soul and with truthful pure Eemaan.

Busy yourself with your own mistakes and your matters, rather than the mistakes of the people and their matters.
Deal with everyone according to their situation and condition, whether he is a senior, or youngster, male or female, a leader or a follower.

Be gentle and merciful to everyone even animals and livestock, since indeed Allaah is merciful to his merciful worshippers.
Be balanced in all your matters, and open up your mind to every religious and worldly benefit.❞
