Interspecies Fertility:
It is a common popular belief that two different species of the same genus cannot produce fertile offspring together, thus anything that can produce fertile offspring together are the same species.
This however is completely false. While it is true that it is common that interspecies hybrids are infertile, it is extremely common that they are fertile and is a normal part of nature and is known as hybridisation. This has also been demonstrated in humans, with popularly known hominids such as H. Neanderthalensis being interfertile with H. Sapiens (modern humans).
