The Jean-Pierre Lab (FJP Lab) is looking for a Ph.D. student to join our dynamic research group located in the Department of Biology at the Université de Sherbrooke, Canada.
Our lab studies the molecular underpinnings whereby microbes show emerging phenotypes when grown as polymicrobial biofilm-like communities that would not readily be seen by using bacterial monocultures.
More specifically, we use cystic fibrosis (CF)- a multiorgan genetic disease that primarily affects the airways of these individuals- as an infection model to understand how interspecies interactions among abundant and prevalent microbes impact changes in antimicrobial susceptibility when grown in CF-like conditions.
The project will focus specifically on identifying genes and signals that are impacting streptococci physiology and mechanisms of recalcitrance when grown in a polymicrobial system that we have recently developed.
The applicant should possess a Master’s degree in microbiology or a closely related discipline and have experience in the fields of molecular biology and bacteriology.
