🧑🔬 About the Positions:
The Spatial Wildlife Ecology Lab at Southern Illinois University (SIU) is seeking two graduate students for Fall 2025 to study muskrat distribution and ecology in Illinois. These positions are part of a well-funded project in collaboration with the Illinois Department of Natural Resources (IDNR).
📌 MS Position – Modeling Statewide Distribution of Muskrats Using UAVs
• Focus: Using UAVs to assess muskrat abundance & analyzing habitat characteristics
• Preferred Skills: Experience operating UAVs
📌 PhD Position – Population Ecology of Muskrats
• Focus: Studying muskrat space-use, survival, and recolonization potential
• Preferred Skills: Experience capturing & handling mammals
✅ Required Qualifications:
• BSc (for MS applicants) or MS (for PhD applicants) in a relevant field
• Strong quantitative skills, experience in R & ArcGIS/Pro
• Knowledge of spatial ecology & ability to conduct fieldwork
• Strong written & oral communication skills
