The Medical University of Vienna is seeking a PhD student to join our research group focused on ticks and tick-borne diseases at the Institute for Hygiene and Applied Immunology. This project is funded by the Austrian Science Fund (FWF) and aims to develop artificial tick feeding systems to reduce reliance on laboratory animals.
🏆 Project Objectives:
✅ Optimize artificial feeding systems for ticks
✅ Develop alternative tick diets (less or no blood from animals)
✅ Create an infection model to study tick-pathogen interactions
📌 Requirements:
🎓 MSc in Molecular Biology, Microbiology, or Biomedical Sciences
🗣️ Strong German & English communication skills
🧠 Passion for research & problem-solving
📊 Experience with statistics (preferred)
🦟 Willingness to work with live ticks & fieldwork (tick collection)
