How does it feel to live in Canada?

I will explain my personal experience. I am an international student

I wake up every morning by 7.

Get ready and go to dining hall by 7:45

I eat breakfast by 7:55 am

Then I rush for my math class to the other end of the university

Then I rush for my other classes.

At 1:00pm, I rush for my part time job at Walmart cuz I have to reach there by 1:15pm

I work there till 4:15.

Then I rush back to attend my computer science class at 4:30pm.

At 5:30pm, I run for my other work at Mexican grill and work there till 6:45pm.

When I am back, I am left with tons of assignments and project to complete.

I complete them by 2:00 am

I sleep and within minutes the sun shines again and I do the same things again

Is it difficult ? Not for me. I love doing it. That’s why my scores are always good, and my managers are always happy with me. Plus I am making dollars as well. So, I love Canada and I am enjoying my life here.

Why should I move to Europe instead of Canada?

I lived in Canada and in several European countries.

Both places are developed and one can have a very nice life, but personally I like Europe better.

Rich culture (music, arts, sightseeing, food, history, etc) and diverse. In a day trip you can reach many different places. Canada doesn't have much of a culture, it has many foreigners from different countries living there, but no impact in culture.

Getting around: It is easy to get around Europe, cheap flights or train deals. Affordable weekend or holiday trips. In Canada, domestic flights are quite expensive. If you live in Toronto, chances are that you will visit several other countries before Vancouver or Halifax. You are constrained to your city and surroundings.

Generally life in Europe is cheaper (depends on country). Real estate in Canada is really expensive and life in general too. Disposable income will be higher in Europe.

Weather: for the most part, weather in Europe is milder and nicer. If you live in a cold country, you always have affordable options to go to the Mediterranean for the weekend. In Canada, there is difficult way out of 6 months of solid snow.

Transportation. Personal opinion, but I do like public transportation for daily commutes. In Europe it works quite well in most places, it is generally easy to get around the city and surroundings. In Canada you need the car for pretty much everything and, from my experience, there's a lot of traffic and winter/snow traffic is quite painful.

Most other areas: education, healthcare, safety, infrastructure, services, etc. are quite comparable.

Outside general differences, I would also check the job market for your personal situation. Canada has the "Canadian experience" issue, most employers will only hire people with Canadian university degrees and work experience. Europe is more open to hire foreigners for white collar jobs.

Which place is better to study and immigrate in Canada? Is it Vancouver, Montreal, Toronto, or elsewhere?

Avoid Vancouver unless you have a lot of money. Yes, it is beautiful there, and the winters are mild, though there is a LOT of rain. The problem with Vancouver is that it’s super expensive and there’s little work. Since you’ll be studying, you’ll have a limited amount of time in which to work and earn money and this will affect both your personal and school life, as you’ll be too busy trying to earn enough to pay rent to go out much or focus on extra curricular activities. If you’re rich though, and can cover all of your living expenses while in school without needing to work, by all means, go for it. I went to school in Vancouver, and while the city was beautiful, it completely broke my finances and I’m still struggling to recover years later.

Toronto is just as expensive as Vancouver, but there is a lot of work here, so it’s far easier to survive. There are also a lot of budget options for cheap and even free entertainment. Winters are colder than Vancouver, but not by much. Some years we don’t even get snow until after christmas. Summers are hot and humid and uncomfortable though. There are a lot of parks and the islands are beautiful, so it’s not like it’s a gray concrete jungle, but both Vancouver and Montreal are better looking. The pace of life is also quicker here. Everyone is busy all the time. On the upside, we have people from all over the world, and it’s easy to discover new cultures, new foods and even learn a different language is you want to.

Montreal is by far the cheapest and most interesting option. Not knowing French isn’t as big of a deal if you’re only planning to stay there for a short while, but if you want to live there, you will need to learn it. Culture is completely different. The city itself is fairly welcoming though. Public activities and festivals are amazing. The bitter cold of winter will destroy you though, if you’re not used to it and quebecers outside of the city may not be as welcoming, and certainly won’t speak English in as large numbers as in the city, so traveling around the province will be tough if you don’t speak French.

I’m originally from Quebec, and I wouldn’t live anywhere in the province outside of Montreal or Quebec city. Both of those cities are beautiful and the people are warm and welcoming. I like to explore the small towns and I’ve been everywhere throughout this country and there are definitely friendlier places than small town quebec. If you like to spend a day driving through small towns and exploring the countryside, both Ontario and BC are far better for that.
