🇺🇸 Postdoc position, Cold Spring Harbor Laboratory, USA
☑️ plant genetics and/or cell biology/ microscopy
Please retweet: Open postdoc position in our lab to characterize the role of plasmodesmata in plant development, focusing on cell to cell trafficking of the KN1/ STM class of homeodomain proteins and mRNAs. Experience in plant genetics and/or cell biology/ microscopy is desired.
We use developmental biology, imaging and genomic techniques to understand signaling in meristem development, using arabidopsis and maize as model systems. CSHL provides a highly interactive research environment, with competitive salary/ benefits, in easy reach of New York City.
Please see our recent publication: Kitagawa, M., Wu, P., Balkunde, R., Cunniff, P., Jackson, D. (2022). An RNA exosome subunit mediates cell-to-cell trafficking of a homeobox mRNA via plasmodesmata. Science, 14;375(6577):177-182.
If interested, please contact me at: jacksond@cshl.edu, and see our website, http://jacksonlab.cshl.edu/index.html.

🇺🇸 Postdoc position: Design Optimization of a Biomedical Device
An immediate opening for a postdoc position is available at Columbia University, the Department of Surgery. The project is funded by the National Institute of Health and is available for two years with an option for extension to a third year.
The successful candidate will work with a team of scientists from the Departments of Surgery, Mechanical Engineering, and Civil Engineering and Engineering Mechanics on an exciting computational design optimization project of a cardiovascular device. The candidate will lead the optimization effort and coordinate the research activities between all group members. The project is expected to lead to new patents, publications, and conference presentations.
Requirements:
- Proven record in design optimization (e.g. publications, conference presentations, thesis) as related to topology and/or sizing and/or shape optimization of structures is a must. Knowledge of gradient-based or heuristic-based optimization is required.
- Strong background in the finite element method and mechanics of materials is a must. Knowledge in constitutive modeling of polymeric materials and/or soft materials are especially welcomed.
- Proficiency in computer programming is a must. In particular knowledge of python noscripting would be considered a significant advantage.
- Knowledge of commercial software in Computer Aided Design (e.g. SolidWorks or other) and Finite Element Methods (e.g. LS-Dyna or other) is especially welcomed.
- Knowledge of parallel computing using OpenMP and/or MPI would be considered an advantage.
Contact Information:
Interested applicants should send an email their CV to Dr. David Kalfa dk2757@cumc.columbia.edu, and copy Prof. Jeffrey Kysar jk2079@columbia.edu and Prof. Haim Waisman waisman@civil.columbia.edu. The starting date is flexible, however, the position will be filled as soon as a qualified candidate is identified.
