About Dr. Tho Le

Dr. Tho Le is an Assistant Professor of Industrial Engineering Technology at the School of Engineering Technology at Purdue University, West Lafayette, IN. He was a postdoctoral fellow working at the Smart Freight Center at the University of Toronto (Canada) and a postdoctoral scholar in the 3 Revolutions Future Mobility Program at the University of California, Davis (USA). Dr. Le received his Ph.D. degree in Transportation and Infrastructure Systems Engineering and a second master's degree in Industrial Engineering (Operations Research) from Purdue University. Before arriving at Purdue, he won the Best Master's Thesis Award in Transportation Engineering from Hiroshima University (Japan).
Dr. Le's papers are published in prestigious international journals, such as Computers and Industrial Engineering;
Transportation Research Part C: Emerging Technologies; Transportation Research Part E: Logistics and Transportation Review; Travel Behaviour and Society; and Transportation.

We are looking for a highly motivated PhD student to join our group. The student will be part of a project called BODIES, which aims at understanding the neuronal mechanisms underlying the integration of action and perception during decision making.
To achieve the goal of BODIES, experiments will be performed in mice. Neuronal activity will be recorded from a prefrontal network while animals perform a navigational task in virtual reality.
Further, the activity of neurons of specific populations within this network will be manipulated through optogenetics, to investigate their causal contribution to behavior. During the project, a computational model will be developed to understand and describe the observed dynamics and to make further predictions for future experiments.
Technical support is provided throughout the duration of the project.
The selected candidate will be enrolled in the PhD program in Neuroscience of the Universidad Miguel Hernández de Elche, under the supervision of Dr. Encarni Marcos.

We are seeking to recruit one, Graduate Research Assistant at the M.S. Level, in the Department of Geographic & Environmental Sciences at the University of Louisville. The qualified student will take part in research for a newly funded NASA project, "Synthesis Study of Land Cover, Land Use, and Demographic Change under MultiDimensional Developments and Climate Pressures in Southeast Asia," and will be expected to receive training and supplement expertise in remote sensing, sociodemographic modeling and statistical or programmatic data analysis for understanding dynamics and interactions in the biophysical and socioeconomic systems along the rural-urban continuum. The work will directly inform scientific support to the strategic development of proactive policies that are regionally relevant and effective in Southeast Asia. The position would be based in the Department of Geographic & Environmental Sciences at the University of Louisville and applicants are expected to successfully apply and be accepted to the Department's graduate program, and complete their M.S. in Applied Geography as part of their Assistantship funding requirements.
We are looking for highly motivated individuals who are excited to join a diverse team of international researchers working on socio-ecological modeling and synthesis of various Earth Observation layers with high resolution mapping of population distributions and demographics based on census, household survey and high-resolution covariate data layers. The work will involve collaborations with US-based partners at CUNY, NASA JPL, Columbia, and Western Michigan University, as well as international researchers and partner organizations.
Given the research goals, preference will be given to applicants with education and experience in remote sensing, GIS and spatial statistical analysis, computer programming, social-ecological systems modeling, and/or demography. Applicants should have a B.A. or B.S. in a geographic/statistical/computational or related discipline.
The candidate will work under the supervision of Dr. Forrest Stevens and Dr. Andrea Gaughan at the University of Louisville trained in interdisciplinary, socio-environmental system thinking, and will be expected to develop independent research. The position starting date is for Fall, 2024 for a period of two academic years, including tuition and benefits, and will remain open until a suitable candidate is found.
