The Biology of Neurodegeneration Laboratory at the Fondazione Santa Lucia / European Center for Brain Research (FSL/CERC) in Rome is seeking two highly motivated and ambitious researchers to expand our team.
What we do
We use a multidisciplinary approach ranging from mouse genetics, mouse behavior, trannoscriptomics, imaging, human induced pluripotent stem cells, primary cell culture, to study how processes related to the innate immunity and autophagy pathways contribute to the onset and progression of the neurodegenerative disease Amyotrophic Lateral Sclerosis (ALS).
What you have
PhD and/or Master degree in Biology, Neuroscience or related subjects.
Strong interest in understanding molecular mechanisms that drive neurodegeneration, with the goal of identifying novel therapeutic targets for this devastating disease.
Experience with animal work, including handling and tissue sample preparation methods.
Previous experience with cell culture (stem cells and/or primary cells) is preferred.
Excellent organizational skills.
Work as a team player and be able to multitask.
Fluency in written and spoken English, excellent communication skills.
Research experience in neurobiology is a plus.
What you are offered
2-year contract (further renewable based on availability of funds), salary commensurate to experience.
Multidisciplinary training and involvement in multiple projects.
Opportunity to work in a newly formed group with possibility of establishing international connections.

• A minimum of 4 graduate courses and one seminar are required.
The successful candidate will develop a real-time (or near-real-time) tool that can identify the 500 farms on the PEI and the remote sensing data available and predict the timing and tuning of the pesticides, water management, and investment management. In-situ data from the Federation of Agriculture will be used for validation. MITACS and the PEI Federation of Agriculture will support this great opportunity.
Location: The students will be hosted by the UPEI in Charlottetown Campus with some travel to the School of Climate Change and Adaptation in the St. Peter’s Bay area, accessible by free daily shuttles. Some occasional field trips might become necessary.
Required Skills and Prerequisites:
- Excellent English writing skills, capable of learning and communicating ideas clearly
- Background in hydrology, civil engineering, environmental engineering, computer science, or applied statistics and mathematics
- Ability to work both independently and collaboratively
- Strong desire to study regional and global environmental change and modeling approaches
