3. English Language Proficiency: For applicants whose first language is not English, we require a minimum TOEFL score of 540 (paper-based) or 76 (Internet-based). Alternatively, an IELTS score with an overall minimum of 6.5, with no component less than 6.5, is acceptable.

Qualifications:
- An undergraduate degree in a STEM field, including Computer Science, Electrical/Mechanical Engineering, Operation Research, Applied Mathematics, etc.
- A solid background in optimization theory, methods, algorithms, and implementation, demonstrated through coursework and/or refereed publications and/or research projects.
- Strong programming skills, especially in Python and/or Julia, optimization solvers (such as Gurobi), and optimization modeling libraries (such as JuMP, Pyomo, CVXPY).
- Strong self-motivation and work ethics.
Preferred qualifications (plus):
- MS degree in a STEM field.
- Background and skills in Machine Learning, especially Bayesian Machine Learning, and programming skills for Machine Learning.
- Familiarity with distributed optimization methods, such as ADMM.
- Strong scientific research and publication experience, as demonstrated through successful research projects and/or refereed publications.
- Familiarity with applications in robotics and/or distributed energy systems.
- Already in the US and eligible for graduate study in Fall 2024 (for example, a current student in the US).
