1) Investigating the Synergistic Influence of Alkali-Silica Reaction (ASR) and Carbonation on Chloride Binding of Cementitious Systems: The selected candidate will employ a combination of experimental and modeling approaches to elucidate the underlying mechanisms and develop predictive tools for assessing concrete ability to bind and release chlorides under ASR and carbonation.
2) Development and Implementation of Multifunctional Sensors for Concrete Health Monitoring Under Chloride Attack: This position focuses on the innovative design and implementation of sensors to monitor the health of concrete structures exposed to chloride environments. The project involves sensor development, integration with concrete systems, and real-time data analysis for early detection of deterioration processes using artificial intelligence.
Requirements
:- MS degree in Civil Engineering or a closely related field.
-Minimum TOEFL score of 100 with at least 25 marks in each section, or an IELTS overall band of 7 with no module less than 6.5.
-Demonstrated experience in cement and concrete-related research.
-Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.

The student will have the unique opportunity to work in our state-of-the-art autonomous vehicle lab, equipped with Quanser Qcars, Quanser Qbot platform, Quanser Qdrone, and a set of Vicon cameras. This lab provides an ideal environment for hands-on research and experimentation (see https://lnkd.in/dwVkKF5b and https://lnkd.in/dCXqh6rP for a few photos and additional info).
Qualifications:
Expertise in control theory, autonomous vehicles, and cyber-security.
Strong programming skills (e.g., Python, MATLAB, ROS).
Excellent communication and teamwork abilities.

There are two ongoing projects that new PhD students will work on:
Project 1: This project focuses on modeling design decision-making in teams under competition. This project will involve using computational modeling of design decision-making with Bayesian Optimization, Sequence Learning and Game Theory. The project will also have human-subject experiments with design problems on computer platforms to study team behaviors under competition.
Project 2: This project focuses on studying collaborative behaviors between human and AI systems during an engineering system design process. The project will have a computational analysis of human-AI collaboration for design optimization problems and human-subject experiments on a video game where human and AI systems collaboratively solve an engineering design problem.
