🔊Weekly Market Highlights #112: August 19 - August 25
✨The cryptocurrency market, led by BTC, began to rise sharply after the US Federal Reserve announced plans to cut interest rates, ending a prolonged period of high rates.
✨Over the past week, the crypto market total capitalization increased by ~$188B (from ~$2,075B to ~$2,263B).
✨BTC Calms at $64K
✅The business week began poorly for BTC, as it struggled to break through the $60K mark, resulting in a $2K drop on Monday. Despite recovering most of those losses on Tuesday and Wednesday and making several attempts to surpass $60K, it only managed to do so on Friday.
✅On Friday, the bulls took charge, driving BTC from around $60.5K to $64K, with a further surge to $65K on Saturday morning. This impressive rally may be attributed to several factors.
✅However, BTC couldn't sustain this momentum and retracted about $1K shortly after. Currently, it's finding it challenging to stay comfortably above $64K, though its market capitalization remains robust at over $1,262B on CoinMarketCap.
✨TON Slumps Hard
✅On the weekly chart, many top altcoins have seen significant gains, with AVAX leading the pack with a 27% increase, now trading around $26.7. It’s followed by TRX (+22%), LINK (+19%), and SHIB (+14%), trading at approximately $0.165, $12.1, and $0.000015, respectively.
✅The biggest crypto-related news recently came from France, where local media reported the arrest of Telegram’s CEO, Pavel Durov after he disembarked from his private jet. This news led to a sharp decline in TON’s price, which dropped over 20% to around $5.7.
✅The total crypto market cap is $2,263B on CoinMarketCap.
✅Total 2 Index (Marketcap excluding BTC) is now at $936B
✨Bitcoin Fear and Greed Index is 55 - Greed, higher than at the beginning of the week (28)
✨Dominance:
✅BTC: 56.3%
✅ETH: 14.7%
📣See you next week!

📕 Better than Yesterday #40: Prevent Financial Crime in Crypto Part 2
While KYC is a widely adopted measure to deter illegal activities, its effectiveness in the complex world of cryptocurrencies remains a topic of debate.
In this follow-up, we will explore KYC's limitations more thoroughly and assess whether it truly provides the level of security we expect.
ℹ️ Do KYC Effectively Prevent Crime?
Even with KYC in place, financial institutions in the USA report average losses of $102M due to scams.
Nearly half of these crimes are committed by unauthorized parties who take over accounts.
This shows that KYC alone isn’t enough to stop fraud, especially as identity theft continues to rise.
The responsibility doesn’t rest solely on KYC processes but also on the security measures implemented by individuals and financial institutions.
ℹ️ Why Is There No Clear Solution?
Criminals quickly adapt to new technologies, while regulations take years to catch up.
Crypto's borderless nature adds complexity, making it hard to create effective global regulations. Even with strict laws, traditional finance still faces financial crime.
ℹ️ What Can Be Done?
Global regulations and blockchain ID validation might help, but they won’t completely solve the problem.
The real solution lies in ethical growth — using technology responsibly to harness the benefits of crypto without enabling crime.

🔊Weekly Market Highlights #113: August 26 - September 1
✨It wasn’t a good week for BTC, which dropped around 11% and fell below $58K by the end of the day. Altcoins also saw big weekly losses.
✨Over the past week, the crypto market total capitalization decreased by ~$231B (from ~$2,263B to ~$2,031B).
✨BTC Down 11% Weekly
✅BTC's recent price movements took unexpected turns. The Bears moved after climbing to $64K over the weekend and hitting a three-week high of just over $65K on Monday. By Wednesday, BTC had dropped to $58K, erasing $7K in losses.
✅Friday saw the price dip further to $57.7K after failing to break through the $60K level on Thursday. Despite attempts to recover, BTC has struggled to hold above $59K and recently fell below $58K once again.
✅BTC has fallen ~11% over the past week, but its dominance on CoinMarketCap remains strong at 56.4%.
✨Alts Turn Red
✅As BTC dominance rises during its retracements, altcoins are experiencing even greater losses.
✅ETH has fallen 9.5% since last Friday and now hovers below $2,5K, struggling due to weak demand for ETH ETFs in the U.S. BNB is down 8.6%, XRP 6.6%, DOGE 8.2%, ADA 9%, SHIB 7.5%, and LINK nearly 10%.
✅The largest drops among major altcoins are SOL and AVAX, both down around 15% to $132 and $22, respectively.
✅TON is slightly in the green on a weekly scale, but that’s misleading since it plummeted last Saturday after the arrest of Telegram’s CEO, Pavel Durov.
✅The crypto market cap has lost over $231 billion in just seven days.
✅Total 2 Index (Marketcap excluding BTC) is now at $840B
✨Bitcoin Fear and Greed Index is 26 - Fear, higher than at the beginning of the week (55)
