This beautiful and sad story inspired the French writer Gaston Leroux to write his novel The Phantom of the Opera.

To enhance the mystical beginning, Leroux used in the story strange phenomena that actually took place at the end of the nineteenth century in the premises of the Paris Opera. For example, in 1896, a chandelier fell there during a performance, killing the spectator who was sitting in chair number 13.

It is also rumored that the contract of the director of the Opéra Garnier allegedly included a clause stating "not to sell tickets in box number 5". This seat was reserved by the Phantom of the Opera, who transferred 20,000 francs (about 3,000 euros) each month to the institution's account in order to have the exclusive right to use the box.

The longest fossilized tree in the world (Thailand)🪵

It is 72.2 meters long and can be seen by anyone at Amphoe Ban Tak National Geological Park.

This park fossils were found by accident, just 10 years ago. Surprisingly, the process of replacing woody tissue with minerals takes an incredibly long time. The well-known moraine oak (in fact, the initial phase of fossilization) takes 1-1.5 thousand years to mature in water. For the transformation of a tree into stone in the ground, the time frame starts from 200 thousand to 2 million years.

But if you look at the photo, you can clearly see that the depth of the trees is ridiculous, literally a couple of meters. It would be more logical to think that the tree would rot, exposed to the air. Either the timing of the transformation of the tree into stone is different from the canonical and the official science is a little bit wrong, dating such findings📜

The Eiffel Tower was conceived as the entrance arch to an exhibition held in 1889. The exhibition showcased advances in energy and the latest inventions.

A combustible mixture used for military purposes during the Middle Ages. It was first used by the Byzantines in naval battles. The Greek fire apparatus was a copper pipe, a siphon, through which the liquid mixture was spewed out with a rumbling noise. Compressed air was used as the ejecting force, or bellows like forges.
Presumably, the maximum range of the siphons was 25-30 m, so initially Greek fire was used only in the navy, where it was a terrible threat to the slow and clumsy wooden ships of the time. Moreover, according to the testimonies of contemporaries, Greek fire could not be extinguished because it continued to burn even on the surface of the water.
