The High Status Of The 'Ulamaa.... By Aboo Aswad ad-Duwalee (d. 69H) rahimahullaah
The Evil Traits Of Those Who Want To Change The Tafseer Of The Qur'aan

Shaykhul-Islaam Ibn Taymiyyah (d. 728H) rahimahullaah said:

“Whoever explains the Qur'aan or the Hadeeth by way of an interpretation that is other than the Tafseer (exegesis) that is well-known from the Companions and the Taabi'een (the successors to them), then he has forged a lie against Allaah, he is a Mulhid (a deviant and heretical person) with regards to the Aayaat of Allaah, and he has distorted the words from their proper and right place (i.e. meaning), and he has opened the door to Zandaqah (heresy) and al-ilhaad (deviancy and atheism), and that is known by necessity to be false and futile in the religion of Islaam.”

The Root Of All Khurooj (Rebellion) Against The Rulers

'Allaamah Muhammad b. Saaleh al-'Uthaymeen (d. 1421H) rahimahullaah said:

Rather, what is extraordinary and surprising is that an accusation was levelled at the Messenger of Allaah (ﷺ), it was said to him: 'Be Just [O Muhammad]!’ Further, it was also said to him: ‘This division [of the booty] has not been done for the Face of Allaah.’ And the Messenger of Allaah (ﷺ) said: "There will come from the progeny of this man those whose prayer will make your prayer seem insignificant." Furthermore, this is a major proof that rebellion against the ruler is with the sword (i.e. physical) and with a verbal statement and speech; because this man did not take out a sword against the Messenger (ﷺ), but rather he (verbally) rebuked him.

Moreover, that which is mentioned in some books of the Ahlus-Sunnah that Khurooj (rebellion) against the ruler is to rebel against him with the sword, then their intent by that is the greater Khurooj (rebellion) which is the end result. In the same way it is mentioned by the Prophet (ﷺ) that fornication is committed with the eyes, it is committed with the ears, the hands and the feet. But the greater fornication - which in reality is the true fornication - is fornication committed with the private parts. [And for this reason, he said: "The private parts either confirm that or deny it."] So this expression from some of the scholars (is from that angle i.e. the greater Khurooj), this is what they intend.

Additionally, with certainty of knowledge we know about the true nature of the situation, which is such that it is not possible to rebel with the sword (i.e. physically) without it first being preceded by rebellion with the tongue and speech (i.e. verbally).
It is not possible for people to take to their swords in fighting the ruler without there being anything precursory that incites them. It is mandatory that there has to be something that incites them and that is speech. So rebellion against the rulers is with speech, a true and real rebellion, proved by both the Sunnah and reality.

As for the Sunnah then you know it. But as for the reality of affairs then we know with certain knowledge that Khurooj with the sword branches off from Khurooj with the tongue and speech. Since never do a people just merely rebel against the ruler; by (saying): 'come on, let’s take up arms (lit. the sword).’ There definitely has to be some sort of precursor and preparation or preliminary steps towards it, (the likes of) vilifying and maligning the rulers whilst concealing their good qualities; which then fills the hearts with rage and resentment, and thus at that point in time trials and tribulations occur.

On The Day Of Judgement The Faces Of Ahlus-Sunnah Will Become Radiantly White & The Faces Of The People Of Innovation Will Become Black

On the Day (i.e. the Day of Resurrection) when some faces will become (radiantly) white and some faces will become black; as for those whose faces will become black (to them will be said): “Did you reject Faith after accepting it? Then taste the torment (in Hell) for rejecting Faith. And for those whose faces will become (radiantly) white, they will be in Allaah’s Mercy, therein (i.e. Paradise) they shall dwell forever. [Surah Aal 'Imraan: 106-107].

Ibn Katheer mentions in explanation of this Aayah:

And His statement, the Most High: “On the Day when some faces will become (radiantly) white.” Meaning on the Day of Resurrection, 'Abdullaah b. 'Abbaas (d. 78H) - radiallaahu 'anhumaa - said: "A time when the faces of Ahlus-Sunnah wal-Jamaa’ah will become radiantly white and the faces of the people of Innovation and splitting will become black.”

“As for those whose faces will become black (to them will be said): "Did you reject Faith after accepting it?” Al-Hasan al-Basree said: “They are the Hypocrites (al-Munafiqoon).”

“Then taste the torment (in Hell) for rejecting Faith.” And this denoscription is general for all the types of unbelievers.

The Superiority Of The Scholar

On the authority of Aboo Umamaah al-Baahilee (radiallaahu ‘anhu), he said:

“It was mentioned to the Messenger of Allaah (ﷺ) regarding two men; one of the two was a worshipper whilst the other one was a scholar. So the Messenger of Allaah (ﷺ) said: 'The superiority of the scholar over the worshipper is like my superiority over the one who is the lowest (in rank) from among you.' Then the Messenger of Allaah (ﷺ) said: 'Indeed Allaah, His Angels, the people of the heavens and the earth even the ant in its hole, and even the fish (in the sea) supplicate for the person who teaches the people al-Khayr (the good).'”
