The Chinese gov. has set up unofficial police “service stations” throughout Canada under the Fuzhou Public Security Bureau. According to Globe and Mail, at least 3 of these stations are located in Toronto.
Multiple media and govt. analyses indicate that these stations frequently engage in criminal acts. ⚠️ They are instrumental in blackmailing “alleged” criminals to return to China. A European NGO, Safeguard Defenders, said official documents show that from April 2021 to July 2022, more than 230,000 people were brought back to China in this fashion ⚠️
Many times, the “alleged” individuals become targets of corruption and are forced to confess to crimes they did not commit. Close kins of the “alleged” criminal residing back home are dragged into the process, with reports detailing the use of heavy-handed punishments if the accused don’t comply. Methods such as denying children the right to go to school or demolishing their houses are common to make the accused obey orders.

Israel, Norway and Sweden will test linking their domestic central bank digital currencies (CBDCs) in a project co-ordinated with the Bank for International Settlements. The Bank of Israel, Central Bank of Norway and Sveriges Riksbank will connect their prototype CBDC systems, the BIS announced on September 28th.
“Efficient and accessible cross border payments are of extreme importance for a small and open economy like Israel and this was identified as one of the main motivations for a potential issuance of a digital shekel. We are privileged to be exploring the topic in this project together with partners that have vast knowledge and experience on CBDCs as well as on cross-border payment policies. The results of the project will be very important in guiding our future work on the digital shekel.”
