Second of all, this shows that the U.S. doesn't see countries as independently being able to make decisions regarding foreign policy, if it affects them in a bad way.
Lastly, if the United States chooses to reconsider its relationship with the Saudis, it will cause a shift in geopolitical-alignment of not only Saudi Arabia, but the entire Gulf region (Saudi Arabia, UAE, Bahrein).
These countries may choose to be more aligned towards Russia and Iran, considering that the only reason they were ever against Iran and Russia in the first place was because of U.S. pressure policy.
Iran is already currently in talks with Saudi Arabia and aims to open good relations with the country, so a shift in United States attitude towards the Saudis might push them even more into the Iran-Russia-China block.
