The False Equivalency Of "Invasion" & "Immigration"

Until now I've only spoken on the crisis concerning the southern border once, on an episode of The Rundown Live one week ago. But it seems as though since this psyop isn't going away it was worth another mention.

Conservatives are continuing to promulgate what is, quite frankly, crackheaded rhetoric. Falsely equating illegal immigration with an invasion. Deliberately misconstruing clauses within the US Constitution to justify excessive uses of military force in the US/Mexico border area. A region which, in Texas specifically, is inhabited by approximately 3 million American citizens who could now also find themselves under de facto military occupation via their own state government.

Essentially using prejudices against immigrants to justify an expansion of the police state, along with the violations of human rights and civil liberties that come with it.

Republican Texas governor Greg Abbott and his supporters frequently site (and misinterpret) statements made by the founding fathers regarding State sovereignty and the right to self-defense in a flimsy attempt to justify their authoritarian action.

However, as this May 2023 article from Reason Magazine elaborates, founding fathers such as James Madison did address this specific issue themselves and made it quite clear what the Constitution, via the purview of the men that actually wrote it, does and does not permit a state to do. The founders views on the matter was much different than what Greg Abbott and his supporters have deliberately misrepresented them to seem.

Moreover, this piece does a great job of dismantling the "invasion" rhetoric for the farce that it is.

On a final note, let us not forget that despite grandstanding to the contrary, the US government itself is largely responsible for the primary causal factors driving illegal immigration; due to it's 70+ years of Cold War colonialist foreign policy in Central America — in which the CIA with the full backing of both Republican and Democrat Administrations overthrew the governments of multiple nations, implemented crippling economic warfare, supported the brutality of fascist dictators, provided covert backing for narco-terrorists, and supported the monopolation of drug cartels for the CIA's covert drug trafficking operations.

So here's a tip, if the US government hates illegal immigration so much, maybe stop destroying their countries to the point where they're forced to flee them in the first place??

UN Special Rapporteur on Torture Urges UK Government to Halt Imminent Extradition of Julian Assange

The UN Special Rapporteur on Torture, Alice Jill Edwards, on Tuesday (Feb 6) urged the Government of the United Kingdom (UK) to halt the possible extradition of Julian Assange to the United States of America.

She called on British authorities to consider Julian Assange’s appeal based on substantial fears that, if extradited, he would be at risk of treatment amounting to torture or other forms of ill-treatment or punishment.

“Julian Assange suffers from a long standing and recurrent depressive disorder. He is assessed as being at risk of committing suicide. In the United States, he faces numerous charges, including under the Espionage Act of 1917 for alleged unlawful releases of diplomatic and other cables and documents via WikiLeaks. If extradited, he could be detained in prolonged isolation while awaiting trial, or as an inmate. If convicted, he could be sentenced to up to 175 years in prison,” Edwards said.

“The risk of being placed in prolonged solitary confinement, despite his precarious mental health status, and to receive a potentially disproportionate sentence raises questions as to whether Mr. Assange’s extradition to the United States would be compatible with the United Kingdom’s international human rights obligations, particularly under article 7 of the International Covenant on Civil and Political Rights, as well as respective articles 3 of the UN Convention against Torture and the European Convention on Human Rights,” the Special Rapporteur said.
