Something that I cover occasionally but admittedly not often enough is the anomalies of human history. Exactly what pipeline protesters have been warning about has happened, yet again. A line which pumps 450,000 barrels of crude oil a day has ruptured into the Amazon River.

Environmental defenders said the spill would be a "disaster" for more than 27,000 Indigenous Kichwa people living downriver from the spill on the banks of the Coca River.

American oil corporations are the primary beneficiary of this environmental destruction, as approximately two-thirds of all oil extracted from the Amazon rainforest is exported to the United States.
