The Peterloo massacre which took place on this day in 1819 at St Peter's Field now known as St Peter's square in Manchester when cavalry, with sabres drawn, charged on a crowd of 60,000–80,000 people who gathered to hear discussion on the reform of parliamentary representation. 18 people were killed and 650+ injured.
I was born and raised in Manchester and this was a story I was told as a child, and I think I can speak for all of Manchester when I say we will never forget 🇬🇧🇬🇧
