After 500 years, Mexico City has outlawed bullfighting.

Mexico City has just ended one of the world’s oldest and most polarizing traditions. In a landslide 61–1 vote, lawmakers passed a sweeping ban on killing bulls and using sharp weapons in the ring, effectively shutting down traditional bullfighting in the world’s largest bullring, Plaza de México.

Animal-welfare campaigners are hailing it as a historic triumph, proof that public entertainment no longer needs to be paid for in blood. They see the decision as part of a worldwide wave in which laws are finally catching up with modern ethics.

The victory, however, has ignited fury among defenders who regard bullfighting as an untouchable pillar of Mexican culture and a livelihood for more than 200,000 people—breeders, matadors, tailors, musicians, and vendors. Within hours of the vote, protesters filled the streets outside the city legislature, waving capes and denouncing the ban as cultural erasure imposed by distant elites.

The Gobi Desert, 1.3 million km² across China and Mongolia, was a dinosaur fossil hotspot, with 80 species found since the 1920s.

Once a sea, it’s now a cold desert with ancient trade routes.

The 145-meter "underwater road" at Nagase Human Beach in Etajima, Hiroshima is a scenic, submerged stone walkway that vanishes during high tide (approx. 3.5m), creating a "walking on water" illusion. It is a popular, picturesque spot similar to scenes in Spirited Away, located at the end of the beach.

Meet the Brazilian Giant Otter.

This isn't your typical cute, European otter. The Brazilian Giant Otter is fearless and terrorizes its surroundings.

Reaching lengths of 130-150 cm (plus a 70 cm tail), this freshwater animal is a force to be reckoned with. It has a distinctive white or light-brown spot on its neck.

Unlike its European cousin, the Giant Otter is active during the day and isn't very shy. You can spot them in groups of 5-8 (sometimes up to 20!) along South American riverbanks. They live in large burrows, up to 10 meters long, and each family controls its own territory.

These otters hunt fish, snakes (including anacondas!), and water birds in the water, and rodents and bird eggs on land. They're truly apex predators.
