Dangerous Curiosity

I spent about 3–4 months chasing every quick win airdrops, fake apps, demo trading, and endless videos. I wanted freedom fast.
At one point I got pulled toward hacking. I thought, if I could hack something and get money, I wouldn’t have to fight so hard. I watched hacker videos, tried to act tough, and even searched both legal and illegal ways to “make it.”
But two things hit me hard. First I didn’t want to hurt people. Second I realized I didn’t actually want a life built on fear. Running after scams or doing something illegal would only avoid the real work I needed to do: learning and building for real.
So I stopped chasing that path. Not just because it was wrong, but because it wasn’t the life I wanted. I’d rather struggle, learn, and grow than take a shortcut that ruins everything.
That moment was a turning point. I felt more serious, focused, and ready to put in the real work.

He’s Right…

I saw this post on LinkedIn today, and honestly it hit hard.

We’re not failing because we’re not capable.
We’re failing because we’ve become too distracted by social media, endless scrolling, and quick dopamine. We say we “don’t have time,” but we spend hours watching others live their dreams instead of building ours.
If you really want it you’ll make time for it.

My First Try at Code

On Nov 8, 2023, I was watching YouTube and found a video by Mike Etubers about software development. He said it’s an in‑demand, high‑paying skill — and something clicked. I’d always been curious about who builds websites and apps. I thought only people with computer science degrees or software engineers could do it. Then he mentioned that he learned HTML back in grade 5. That hit me if he could learn it at such a young age, I could start learning it now too. That thought gave me a rush of excitement. For the first time, I felt real hope that I could actually build something. I dropped everything crypto, hacking ideas, SMMA, and the fake quick wins — and started searching for videos about software development. I wanted to actually build something.
I followed a tutorial and watched someone write a simple HTML page. After the video ended, I closed it and tried to write the same page by myself.

And nothing worked.

My screen was empty, my brain blank. I couldn’t remember the tags, the structure I felt lost. I tried, failed, and felt crushed. I gave up after that first attempt. It was a small defeat, but it mattered because even though I stopped that day, something in me had changed. The desire to learn was there. I just hadn’t found the right way to start yet.

The Comeback

After leaving the tech learning process, I fell back into my old routine. I’d wake up, scroll through YouTube, TikTok, then back to YouTube, searching for online business videos — repeating the same cycle every day. One night, a video caught my attention “13-year-old programmer " learned programming in 6 months and mastered multiple skills. Watching it, something clicked. I thought: If he can do it, why can’t I ? That moment taught me something crucial learning is not overnight. It’s a process, not just the outcome. If I wanted to achieve it, I had to start again, stay consistent, and push through every struggle. So I made a choice. I decided to start again, properly this time. No shortcuts. No distractions. Just learning, building, and growing.

And that’s how my real journey in programming truly began.

People think website design is cheap in Ethiopia… but it’s not.
the basic pricing starts from $1,000 to $300,000 depending on the project.
Here in Ethiopia, one person does design + development + SEO + setup, and still people expect to pay 2k or 5k birr. Websites take time, skill, research, and planning.
If you want a website that actually works, brings customers, and looks professional it will cost real money Not 2k or Not 5k birr
