Time to put the anemic ARM mini nas into the trash where it belongs. Got me this little thing instead. Fully fledged i5 6500 with 16 GB of RAM. Tons of room for activities including an m.2 slot, two serial ports, parallel and TPM. Cost like 40-80€ depending on what specs you get from commercial sellers with warranty. And the kicker: it draws only 7.8W in idle !!!
(yes I used a CF card to install the OS)

ZyXEL NSA325 v2. Seems to be from around 2014. Runs a Marvell Armada 370 88F6707 ARM5 @ 1.2 GHz, 512Mb RAM, 128Mb flash. Gigabit Ethernet and SATA II. Very under powered by today's standards. But maybe it suffices? Let's check it out, flash openwrt onto…
This is the thing I'm retiring. Burnt way too much time on this pos. In the end, a bug in the ethernet driver causes openat() calls to take 30s and longer, rendering nfsv4 unusuable.

New old monitor. It's a modern IPS panel that I got for 60 bucks from a commercial reseller. I love the aesthetics. Let's hope the VGA scaler is decent so I can use it for my retro boxen
