20 ps time base 👀

(okay that's a bit meaningless if I "only" have 4.66 Ghz Bandwidth)

The plugin overshoots a bit on the time axis and there is this weird glow. Needs a bit of work, but otherwise everything works fine so far. Let's not yet talk about calibrating it, please

It's really hard to take good pictures of this CRT

Sampling is a technique to resolve repeating signals that would otherwise be too fast. The signal is sampled at certain intervals over many periods to reconstruct the waveform.
The most bandwidth I can cough up so far without these tricks is around ~200 Mhz ish with my hacked Siglent SDS 1104X-E DSO.
I once acquired a ton of calibration equipment from the Tektronix facility in Heerenveen. I need to flip the bulk of it. I want to do at least simple fail / pass tests with these units, but otherwise not touch the calibration. And for that I needed the extra bandwidth.
Enter the first calibration unit: The TG 501 Time Mark Generator.
It does what it says: generate pulses at fixed intervals to calibrate the time base of oscilloscopes
Real vintage stuff. Seal is still in-tact.
TM500 is a Plugin based instrumentation platform by Tektronix.

Man, these guys really loved their plug-ins

The mainframe provides a PNP/NPN transistor pair and two isolated 25 V AC windings for each bay, as well as common 17.5V AC, and common unregulated 11.5 V and +- 33.5V
There's also 30 pins reserved for inter-module communication.
Except you have to wire them up yourself

The physical connectors are the same as in Jamma Arcade cabinets and can be found cheaply on AliExpress

To work on bad plugins I cobbled up an extender
