There is a new term on the scene of contemporary COVID-19 care, and it is not a good one, “medical tyranny.” This refers to a totalitarian posture taken by doctors, nurses, and hospitals caring for patients with acute COVID-19. The isolation procedure has taken family members and loved ones away from the bedside, and now frightened, ill, and isolated patients through forms of video try to interact with healthcare providers about their inpatient treatment.

There are innumerable reports of long lengths of stay, unhappy patients and family members, and clear evidence of therapeutic nihilism where patients are not offered the full continuum of care that optimally is started as an outpatient. Patients and family members should demand “shared decision making” and enforce a patient bill of rights that ensures all parties agree on the treatment course.

In this program, we have Dr. Richard Amerling, MD, Chief Medical Officer for the American Frontline Doctors, who gives his analysis as it relates to medical tyranny among medical doctors who are entranced into waiting for large, randomized trials and guidelines based upon those trials. Courage, clinical skill, and judgment are qualities associated with outpatient doctors far more than hospitalists when it comes to acute COVID-19. It’s time for hospitals and their doctors to get up to speed.

On October 12, 2021, the CDC reported to America that 31,895 spontaneously reported vaccine failure cases had been hospitalized with COVID-19, and sadly, 23% of that composite were fatalities. Eighty-five and 67% of those cases were in those over age 65 years. The Project Salus CMS data through the first week of August concordantly show that 60% of Americans hospitalized with COVID-19 over age 65 have been failed by one of the vaccines.

Finally, the 42nd UK COVID Vaccine Surveillance report data on COVID-19 has shown that now the UK, following Israel as a heavily vaccinated country, has far more vaccinated than unvaccinated individuals in the hospital or ill with COVID-19. It cannot be any clearer—the COVID-19 vaccines are not stopping SARS-CoV-2 and are not preventing hospitalization or death.

Thus, we must redouble our efforts on prompt diagnosis and early medical therapy for COVID-19 to reduce the intensity and duration of symptoms, hospitalization, and death. In that process, each and everyone can help those who are ill in recognizing the sheer panic that sets in with the realization that this could be fatal for our seniors, and they know it. Phone calls, support, and for those who are COVID-19 recovered, direct visits and help in the home or is not only compassionate but could be lifesaving.

In a paper by Fillmore and colleagues from the Veterans Administration, 45% of those hospitalized for COVID-19 never had an oxygen saturation < 94%, meaning that many rushed to the hospital in a panic and could have been handled at home with good medical care, support, and in some cases home oxygen concentrators.
