🇨🇳🇺🇸 Security experts say U.S. military support for Ukraine and Israel will complicate efforts to deter any Chinese attack on Taiwan.

Retired Navy Capt. Jim Fanell, a former Pacific Fleet intelligence director and specialist on China’s military, said Beijing is watching the increased need for weapons after the Hamas attack, combined with two years of demands on the U.S. armament supply chain from the war on Ukraine.

The Pentagon is rapidly boosting its support for the Israeli military by sending air defenses, munitions and other military goods, a senior defense official told reporters.

🇺🇸🇨🇳 US eyes weapons stockpiles as concern grows about supporting both Ukraine and Israel’s wars

Concern is growing within the Pentagon over the potential need to stretch its increasingly scarce ammunition stockpiles to support Ukraine and Israel in two separate wars, according to multiple US defense officials.

At the moment Ukraine and Israel require different weapons: Ukraine wants massive amounts of artillery ammunition while Israel has requested precision guided aerial munitions and Iron Dome interceptors.

But if Israel launches a ground incursion into Gaza, the Israeli military will create a new and entirely unexpected demand for 155mm artillery ammunition and other weapons at a time when the US and its allies and partners have been stretched thin from more than 18 months of fighting in Ukraine.

🌍🪖📝: “The Sleepwalkers” hypothesis is a relatively recent theory in World War I studies. It basically holds that there was no plan in starting the war. Through a mixture of hubris, error, and simple incompetence the Great Powers stumbled into that horrific conflagration.

The past year has revealed the West has learned nothing since 1914, and arguably has become worse. They’re delusional in their political beliefs and many are so wrapped up in their ethno-narcissism that they’ve stopped considering second order effects. The end results will speak for themselves, the question simply remains how horrible it will be for all involved.

🇷🇺 ❌️ 🇺🇦 Avdiivka Kotel | CIG #commentary

"As the world was focused on Israel and Palestine, Russian forces launched several offensives across the lines of contact. Primarily, the 25th Combined Arms Army attempted to encircle the Ukrainian stronghold of Avdiivka. Avdiivka is a heavily fortified settlement just north of Donetsk City. Having been the frontline between Ukraine and Donetsk since 2014, the settlement had been heavily fortified by Ukraine between the years 2014-2022, resulting in Avdiikva remaining in Ukrainian hands from February 24, 2022 to the current moment despite being only 10km at its shortest distance from pre-2022 Russian held territory."

🇷🇺 🇺🇦 📝 Avdiivka Kotel | CIG #commentary

Pt 2: "Russian forces have made confirmed advances south of Krasnohorivka (5km north of Avdiivka) and southeast of Pervomaiske (11km southwest of Avdiivka), however suffered significant casualties in doing so. According to Austrian war analyst Tom Cooper the massive Russian armoured columns (at least two, possibly three) were spotted by Ukrainian UAV's 5-10k meters behind the Russian lines and began being struck by artillery. By the time they made it to the frontlines, many vehicles had been taken out of the fight, and Ukrainian minefields proceeded to take a toll. According to Ukrainian sources (which vary), the 90th Tank Division lost over 115 vehicles alone, in an operation unseen in its size since the beginning of the war, larger than the January-February 2023 Russian offensive in Vuhledar primarily conducted by the 155th Naval Infantry Brigade

While most of the Ukrainian claims of total casualties cannot be confirmed, footage has emerged of Russian casualties in this offensive, posted here.

THE SIGNIFICANCE

-This is a connoscript vs connoscript war by now, with relatively few pre-2022 military professionals on the front lines. Ukrainian drone footage (4th video) shows large clumps of Russian infantry standing around the armoured vehicles, which are only effective when provided infantry protection from opposing infantry. For every 1 pre-2022 Ukrainian military professional in the Ukrainian military, there are 3 post-2022 connoscripts. Connoscripts are more effective defending than assaulting, which leads to the next point...

-The exact same problems the Ukrainian counter-offensive faced are the problems the Russian offensive encountered. Drones spotting armoured columns from miles away, artillery, minefields, entrenched positions. Both armies have grown in size while the line of contact has shrunk (compared to March 2022). The war in Ukraine has not seen dramatic territorial exchanges since the initial Russian operation of February 2022 and subsequent Russian withdrawals from Kyiv, Kharkiv, and Kherson in March-April, September, and November 2022. After almost one year of grinding attrition the time of dramatic territorial changes in this war may be over.

Ukraine suffered casualties assaulting Russian defenses that had 18 months to prepare, Russia is currently assaulting Ukrainian fortifications that Ukraine had 8 years to prepare. If they manage to encircle or capture Avdiivka, one of Ukraine's strongest lynchpins in their defense along the contact line will be gone, and the potential for dramatic Russian gains may be open for the first time since February-March 2022.

With American aid now being sent also to Israel, and European nations still rearming and reinvigorating their military industrial base, Russia is clearly banking on being able to stomach their casualties and outlast Western support for Ukraine at a time when American attention is increasingly being directed towards Israel and Taiwan and not just Ukraine."

➕️ Additional commentary:
- What's the Rush?

"Mud season. Weather conditions in Ukraine are pushing against a period with less favorable ground for shifting the frontline. Avdiivka has been fortified by Ukraine since 2014, Russia is performing shaping operations now, in order to lay the ground work for a potential winter offensive when the ground is dry enough for the resumption of heavy equipment movements.

For the foreseeable future, modern warfare will require the increased scalability of expendable mass-produced armored units which are necessary to make pushes."

🇷🇺 🇺🇦 The Russians continue to accumulate amphibious forces. - Patricia Marins

"On October 5th, the Volgograd delivered a shipment of BMD-2 and BTR-RD vehicles.

These vehicles are manufactured by the 144th Armor Repair Plant and the Volgograd Machine-Building Company. Prior to the war, these companies were able to refurbish approximately 100 units per year.

In early May, Rostec announced that production at the Volgograd firm had doubled, and another vehicle shipment is anticipated in the near future.

Recently, I wrote a post about Russia revitalizing old projects involving amphibious artillery units. Now, they are retrieving weapon systems from storage, including the BTR-60PB armored personnel carrier and the 2S31 Vena, an amphibious self-propelled 120mm mortar system, which date back to the 1990s.

Weeks ago, the UK Defense Ministry stated that Russian military activities around the islands of the Dnipro River in Kherson Oblast, particularly on the front line, have shown increased intensity since being assumed by Russia's 40th Army Corps."
