🔥 🇸🇩 🏴‍☠️ Google Earth has updated its satellite imagery of many parts of Sudan. Looking over West Darfur city of El Geneina, I am shocked at the level of destruction. In some parts, whole areas have been destroyed and cleared. Location: 13.4469, 22.4151 (dates: April 2023 & March 2024)

🔶️ The burn damage around El Geneina's specialised hospital is incredible.

🔶️ It's not just the widespread burning of structures that we see in El Geneina, as a result of the ongoing violence in Sudan, but there are also clear indications of structures that have been removed, like these warehouses, located at 13.43324, 22.41364

🔶️ The use of arson in communities across Sudan has significantly increased since violence erupted in April last year. Given the widespread nature, our team at Cen4infoRes in our Sudan Witness project has been tracking them and logging them on this map:

🚢 🇾🇪 🌍 Suez Canal blockade remains in effect.

🔶️ The US Navy is still issuing combat medals in the Red Sea, the majority of Suez Traffic is still diverted (through which passes 12% of *total* global trade), and that this is all helping inflation to rise.

🔶️ LNG shipments through the canal have dropped to zero. Qatar provides 13% of Europe's LNG, and the fastest route is through the canal. Ironically, this might mean Russia captures more of the European LNG market.

🇵🇸 🇮🇱 🇪🇬 IDF prepares to go into Rafah; the evacuation will take around two to three weeks and about six weeks to finish Hamas in Rafah.

🔶️ The Israel Defense Forces is gearing up to evacuate Palestinian civilians from Gaza’s southernmost city in Rafah ahead of its planned offensive there, according to Israeli and Egyptian officials quoted by the Wall Street Journal.

🔶️ Egyptian officials briefed on Israeli plans are quoted as saying that the first two to three weeks of the operation will consist of evacuating civilians, in coordination with the US, Egypt and other Arab countries.

🔶️ The evacuation will reportedly involve moving civilians to the nearby city of Khan Younis, among other areas, and setting up shelters with tents, food and medical facilities.

🔶️ After that, the IDF will gradually move troops into Rafah and target “areas where Israel believes Hamas leaders and fighters are hiding,” the officials say.

🔶️ The Egyptian officials say fighting in Rafah is expected to last at least six weeks, according to the report, though timing “remains uncertain.”

Many people have dmed us, asking us to confirm whether or not Egypt is to play a role in the evacuation of Palestinians from Rafah with the impending military operation Israel plans to carry out there. Upon examining the source of this news, we discovered it was written by a journalist named Carrie Keller Lynn, an Israeli journalist and former IDF soldier known for her advocacy for Israel.

Now the article itself supposedly cites Egyptian officials. But of course, it certainly does not cover the ramifications Israel must face from Egypt when Israel eventually does carry out it's operation in Rafah. Another thing to note that of course, is that the supposed evacuation of citizens is going to be supposedly coordinated with the US and other Arab countries and it does not mention Israel when the article talks about coordinating the evacuation.

Of course, the safety of the citizens stuck in Rafah is a top priority. Like I said before, after that, it does not discuss the ramifications of said military operation. One more thing to note, the Gazans are under any circumstance, NOT GOING TO BE EVACUATED TO EGYPT. The article itself talks of how the citizens are expected to be evacuated to centers in Khan Younis and such.

Don't take everything at face value, guys. Delve deeper.

🇬🇷🏛📹 — On April 16, 2024 AD, the official account of the Paris 2024's Olympic Games published the inauguration video showing a ceremonial event marking the start of the preparations for the France-based event

Such ceremony, as not-very-well-known but held every game, included a Prayer for Ancient Greek Olympian god of Sun, Apollo, and the Main Ancient Greek god, Zeus, held by actresses performing the roles of Ancient Greek priestesses, that read as:
➡️ “Apollo, God of sun, and the idea of light, send your rays and light the sacred torch for the hospitable city of Paris. And you, Zeus, give peace to all peoples on earth and wreath the winners of the Sacred Race.”

➡️ Such a prayer is held during every single edition of the Olympic Games, following the Ancient tradition of offering the games for the gods as an bidding, offer.

➡️ As one might imagine, as expected in current times, this resulted in a controversy, with many Christian netizens accusing the Olympic Committee of trying to "normalize Greek Paganism Again" — which, although it still has practitioners in Greece and a few thousand more of """practitioners""" in Anglophone countries, is, let's face it, an insignificant minority — and caused a new wave of debates of the nature of the Game's organizers

➡️ Such kind of incident reminds the 2004 Olympics controversy, where a similar accusation happened during the Athens Olympics, where waves of debates between Christians, skeptics and Neo-Pagan groups over the supposed true intentions of the Olympic Committee and whether or not it was trying to normalize a revival of Hellenistic paganism

➡️ This week debates got so heated that the views on the original post reached 3 Million, with the official page hidding replies, as netizens debated widely on the most diverse topics possible, from the Positive Christianity of the Third Reich to the attempt of Christianization of Greco-Roman gods by Catholics

The internet, as always, being a wonderful place for banter enthusiasts

🏗 🇺🇸 🏭 Reindustrialization in the Age of Fragmentation

🔶️ A new paper is out with the HIIA Budapest. In it we explore reindustrialisation. With governments across the world waking up to the catastrophe caused by a decline in manufacturing we want to explore what reindustrialisation might entail and what might constrain it.

🔶️ Do not believe those who tell you deindustrailisation is driven by technology. A portion of it is, but most of it is a redistribution of manufacturing capacity from the Western countries to the emerging BRICS+ bloc - especially China.

🔶️ Some countries try to build manufacturing sectors by attracting FDI. Good news for countries with higher wages: only a weak correlation between wage rates and FDI. So, wealthy countries can attract FDI without crashing living standards. (BRICS in red, West in blue).

🔶️ There is no relationship whatsoever between wage rates and domestic investment. This is somewhat surprising as many might assume higher wages mean higher consumption meaning less investment. Not according to the data.

🔶️ Also good news for wealthier countries: no relationship between wage levels and manufacturing. So, again, if you are a wealthy country you can have a manufacturing sector without cratering your living standards.

🔶️ We also found that nothing predicts high investment like having a robust manufacturing sector. Service sector-based economies have low investment, while manufacturing economies have high investment. Deindustrialisation in the West explains low investment rates.

🔶️ Again, these are just some of the dynamic relationships. They say nothing about how each country can build a manucaturing base. But our results are good news for wealthy countries. They can get their manufacturing mojo back - but it will not be easy.

🛡 🇷🇺 🇺🇦 Graph of all Russian losses, showing the increase in IFV losses since December, relative to other types of loss.

🔶️ Russia has lost at least 151 IFVs in April (visually confirmed by WarSpotting ) That's more than in 14 whole months of the war, and at this rate it will be one of the top 3-4 months.

📝 The uptick in material losses indicates that Russia is increasingly conducting maneuver assaults. Static trench warfare typically exerts less pressure on IFVs/APCs.
