⬛️ How America Can Prepare for War in Asia, Europe, and the Middle East

🔶️ "The United States is currently involved in two wars—Ukraine’s in Europe and Israel’s in the Middle East—while facing the prospect of a third over Taiwan or South Korea in East Asia. All three theaters are vital to U.S. interests, and they are all intertwined. Past efforts to deprioritize Europe and disengage from the Middle East have weakened U.S. security. The U.S. military drawdown in the Middle East, for instance, has created a vacuum that Tehran has filled eagerly."

The West, in particular, must create and share more munitions, weapons, and military bases. The United States also needs to formulate better military strategies for fighting alongside its partners. Otherwise, it risks being overwhelmed by its increasingly capable and intertwined enemies."

🔶️ "Consider munitions. The wars in both Gaza and Ukraine have shown that modern conflict is munitions-intensive and protracted. The Ukrainian army fires thousands of artillery shells per day, at times outstripping the production capability of its suppliers. Israel has gone through thousands of tank rounds and fired many precision-guided munitions in its war with Hamas since October 7. Collectively, the U.S.-supported Ukrainian and Israeli war efforts amount to an expenditure rate that Western munitions companies are struggling to meet. As a result, the United States and its allies have had to make difficult choices about which munitions they can send to friends and which they need to keep for themselves."

🔶️ "As the alliance’s central member and main security provider, the United States must be able to meet the needs of both its own and its allies’ armed forces. To do so, the U.S. government should provide defense companies with the kind of steady demand needed to boost production."

🔶️ "Fulfilling foreign munitions sales before meeting the needs of the U.S. armed forces may seem harmful to American interests, even when those countries made their purchases first. There are certainly moments when Washington’s needs should take precedence. But allowing defense firms to ship to Taiwan or Poland before Fort Bragg when necessary can enhance U.S. security—especially when the United States is not itself fighting major wars. The effort to supply Ukraine, for example, is a truly multinational affair, featuring the United States and its allies in NATO and throughout Europe and Asia. By checking Russian aggression, these countries promote Washington’s security as well as their own."

🏴‍☠️ 🇺🇦 🇷🇺 Western fighters in Ukraine are getting killed because they assumed the war would be easy, says a US veteran who fought there

🔶️ The veteran, who spoke on the condition of anonymity, said a lot of foreign veterans who came to Ukraine to fight against Russia's invasion had been used to fighting at an advantage and struggled to adapt to the conditions there, where they were often outmanned and outgunned.

🔶️ He explained that it was harder to find places to stay safe in Ukraine, where more drones are being used than in any conflict in history, and artillery and long-range weapons are common.

🔶️ He said that even miles behind the front lines, "you can still get hit by a fucking rocket out there." If you're on a base in the Middle East, you're "relatively safe."

🔶️ Another soldier, who uses the call sign Jackie, fought in Afghanistan and Iraq and previously told BI that the fighting in the eastern city of Bakhmut offered no place to stop and rest, unlike previous conflicts he'd been part of.

🔶️ Both men also compared the war in Ukraine to World War I, where trenches and unrelenting artillery fire defined the fighting.

🔶️ Biden and other world leaders linked Ukraine's fight against a Russian invasion to the D-Day operation, warning that "democracy is not guaranteed."

🔶️ Secretary of the American Battle Monuments Commission Charles Djou:
- Djou said the D-Day memorial reminded Americans of the cost of war, and the price of freedom that Americans paid 80 years ago. He added that Americans would fight for freedom again “if necessary” in pointed remarks aimed at Russia and China.
-“We remind all authoritarian dictators today that if necessary, we will pay that price again to ensure the success of freedom” he said.

📖 🇺🇸 🚢 Over 200 US Merchant ships took part in the D-day Normandy landings. To make a Normandy breakwater Harbor, called Mulberry harbour, 33 merchant ships were sunk 1,000 yards from shore.

🔶️ In this photo you see US Army landing ships on the beach but they could only carry 2,000 tons. The behind them is the fleet of US Merchant Marine liberty ships that carried 10,000 tons each.

🔶️ During the war 3.1 million tons of US merchant ships were sunk in 733 ships. Merchant Navy crews were killed at a rate of 1 in 26 (US Navy rate was 1 in 114).

🔶️ There were 243,000 mariners that served in the war. And 9,521 perished while serving—a higher proportion of those killed than any other branch of the US military. Roughly four percent of those who served were killed, a higher casualty rate than that of any of the American military services during World War II.
