🇺🇸 A resident of Springfield, Ohio, complains to the mayor about "foreign men not speaking English" camping on her frontyard every night.

🔸 She tells that she and her husband are living in Springfield for over 45 years and are planning to move out because the situation has become unbearable due to 20k Haitian migrants that came following the COVID-19 pandemic. Springfield itself, had 58k residents at the 2020 census.

🔸 The resident adds that the migrants, whom are exclusively men, yell at her and her elderly husband, have trashed her front yard, some of them are even sleeping every night in front of her home.

🔸 The local government of Springfield says that the 20k Haitian migrants "came legally", that they are powerless to stop them and that they are "good for the local economy" as journalists are quick to point out they came to Springfield for the couple or so warehouses that opened up in the recent years.

🔸 In the recent months, posts coming from long time residents of Springfield, Ohio, have been going viral on X (Twitter) complaining of household pets, ducks and geese being hunted down and cooked in the open by these Haitian migrants who are apparently looking for jobs according to the mayor.

🇳🇷 Even extreme luck from natural resources does not outweigh psychology in explaining variation in wealth.

Take Nauru, the fattest country in the world, 95% are overweight and 70%+ are obese.

In the 1970s, they mined bird poo (guano) and sold it so that their country was the wealthiest in the world GDP per capita (population about 10k Polynesians).

The plan was to put the money into a national trust fund, like Norway does. The interests from this massive wealth would enable them to basically finance a welfare state perpetually.

However, it was not to be due to "mismanagement and corruption". Today they are about as poor as they were to begin with. Rags to riches to rags.

🚀 Elon Musk: The first Starships to Mars will launch in 2 years when the next Earth-Mars transfer window opens.

These will be uncrewed to test the reliability of landing intact on Mars. If those landings go well, then the first crewed flights to Mars will be in 4 years.

Flight rate will grow exponentially from there, with the goal of building a self-sustaining city in about 20 years. Being multiplanetary will vastly increase the probable lifespan of consciousness, as we will no longer have all our eggs, literally and metabolically, on one planet.

I will tell you why - my dear - that the Ethiopian government is so extremely invested in seething about Somalia and Egypt, while completely neglecting a four fronted insurgency (Tigray, Amhara, Oromo, and Ogaden), instead, trying to rally the Ethiopian people against a foreign enemy.

To put it bluntly, they know they are fucked.

The quickest way to unite a people is through uniting them against a foreign enemy - Egypt completely fits the bill, afterall, during the 1800s, Egypt expanded as far down south as Somalia, and even slightly into Ethiopia, but we were met by defeat, after that - we never bothered anymore, thus, they try to play on past events and memories, and the fact that uniting the people against a foreign enemy usually works 9 out of 10.

The Ethiopian government has fought in constant warfare for the past four years, with over anywhere from 300 to 700 thousand dead people and millions of internally displaced people.

I am sure that they are salivating at the idea that they can unite the Abyssinian people against a foreign enemy, because - it means no more internal wars.

🇮🇶🇺🇸 US-led coalition forces to leave Iraq before 2026: PM advisor

Forces in the global coalition against the Islamic State (ISIS) are set to completely leave Iraq by the end of next year, an advisor to Prime Minister Mohammed Shia’ al-Sudani revealed on Sunday, while the United States has described it as a security transition.

“In the talks between Iraq and the US, we have reached an agreement for the international coalition forces against the Islamic State (ISIS), including US forces, to withdraw from Iraq by the end of 2025,” Sabhan Mullah Jiad, the political advisor to the Iraqi prime minister, told Rudaw.

He added some troops in the US-led global anti-ISIS coalition will leave Iraq in the coming months.

“According to the agreement, the withdrawal will begin before the end of this year, but initially, only a small number of forces will be withdrawn, and later, through several phases, all will be pulled out by the end of 2025,” he added.

Around 2,500 US troops in Iraq and 900 in Syria are leading an international coalition through Operation Inherent Resolve that has assisted Kurdish, Iraqi, and local Syrian forces in the fight against ISIS, which once held swathes of land in Iraq and Syria but was declared territorially defeated in 2019. The group remains a security threat, carrying out attacks on military targets and civilians on both sides of the border.

🇨🇳🇳🇦 Chinese Nuclear Giant CGN to Build Namibia's Largest Desalination Plant With Local Water Firm

Chinese atomic energy developer China General Nuclear Power Group has received approval from the Namibian government to build the African country's largest seawater desalination plant in cooperation with the local water corporation.

CGN's Namibian subsidiary Swakop Uranium and Namibia Water will begin construction of the desalination plant this year, Yicai learned from Shenzhen-based CGN. Once completed by the end of 2026, the facility will have an annual production capacity of 20 million tons of water.

The project, which has been included in the list of key projects of the China-Namibia Belt and Road Initiative, will effectively alleviate the water shortage in Namibia, especially in the central and western coastal areas, provide guarantees for the development of various industries, including mining, increase employment, and promote economic growth.

🇪🇬🌱 The controversial plan to turn a desert green

Ties van der Hoeven’s ambitions are nothing if not grand. The Dutch engineer wants to transform a huge stretch of inhospitable desert into green, fertile land teeming with wildlife.

His sights are set on Egypt’s Sinai Peninsula, an arid, triangle-shaped expanse that connects Africa with Asia. Thousands of years ago it was bursting with life, he said, but years of farming and other human activity have helped turn it into a barren desert.

He has spent years fine tuning an initiative aimed at restoring plant and animal life to roughly 13,500 square miles of the Sinai Peninsula, an area slightly bigger than the state of Maryland. The goal: to suck up planet-heating carbon dioxide, increase rainfall and bring food and jobs to local people.

But in 2016, the course of his career changed when he was pulled into a venture to help the Egyptian government restore shrinking fish populations in Lake Bardawil, a saltwater lagoon in northern Sinai, separated from the Mediterranean by a narrow sandbar. It used to be more than 100 feet deep but is now less than 10 feet deep in parts, as well as hot and salty.

Within a few weeks, van der Hoeven devised a plan to open up the lagoon by creating tidal inlets and dredging “tidal gullies” to get more seawater flowing through, making it deeper, cooler, less salty and more full of marine life.

Scanning the terrain in Google Earth, he saw the outline of a network of now dried-up rivers, criss-crossing the Sinai like blood vessels, suggesting this land was once green. He pored over weather models and ecological studies and started to see connections.

He could use the sediments dredged from Lake Bardawil to help regreen the surrounding area. “They are salty but they hold very many nutrients and minerals, which you need to start restoring the land,” he said.

He would start with the wetlands around the lake, expanding them to lure the birds and fish.

Then, he would go higher into the region’s mountains, pumping in the lake’s sediments and layering them to create soils where they could grow different varieties of salt-tolerant plants. These would help revitalize the soils, van der Hoeven said, reducing salt levels and making the land able to support a larger array of plants.

Van der Hoeven’s central idea is that adding vegetation to the landscape will mean more evaporation, more clouds forming and more rain falling. It could even change the winds, as greening the region can bring back moisture-laden flows of air, he said.

🇮🇳🇷🇺🇨🇳 India, China, Russia to jointly build massive nuclear power plant on moon to establish a future human lunar colony

India and China, two historically rival nations, are set to collaborate with Russia in establishing a nuclear power plant on the Moon. This development, reported by EurAsian Times and sourced from Russia’s state-owned news agency Tass, was announced by Alexey Likhachev, head of Rosatom, Russia’s state nuclear energy corporation. The initiative aligns with India’s plans for a manned lunar mission by 2040 and the establishment of a lunar base.

According to Tass, the lunar power project, led by Rosatom, aims to build a small nuclear power plant capable of generating up to half a megawatt of energy. This output is expected to support the operations of a lunar base. Likhachev confirmed that both China and India are eager to participate in developing this innovative lunar energy solution.
