🧵🇨🇳 A new picture emerges in which the U.S. is hanging on to its illusory hegemony, finding itself unable to militarily contain China due to China's military and technological advances, the logistical challenges stemming from long distances and the lack of a more robust defense-industrial base, alongside a lag in keeping pace with China's rapidly growing innovation capacity
The U.S. is adapting to a new reality in the Indo-Pacific, where China’s rapid military modernization has shifted the balance of power. While the U.S. is investing in infrastructure upgrades and adopting strategies like agile combat employment” and the “island chain” approach, it faces significant constraints, including budget limitations and an overstretched military

"Russia's war on Ukraine has landed Kremlin leader Vladimir Putin in "big trouble," U.S. President Donald Trump told reporters on Monday.
"[Ukrainian President Volodymyr] Zelenskyy told me he wants to make a deal, I don’t know if Putin does ... He might not. I think he should make a deal. I think he’s destroying Russia by not making a deal," Trump said in the Oval Office on the first day of his second presidency.
"I think, Russia is kinda in big trouble. You take a look at their economy, you take a look at their inflation in Russia. I got along with [Putin] great, I would hope he wants to make a deal," he added.
(...)
"He’s grinding it out. Most people thought it would last about one week and now you’re into three years. It is not making him look good," Trump said.
"We have numbers that almost a million Russian soldiers have been killed. About 700,000 Ukrainian soldiers are killed. Russia’s bigger, they have more soldiers to lose but that’s no way to run a country," he added."

President Trump says he will either fire all of the 87,000 IRS agents or move them to the Border.

Donald Trump has revealed what could be the fate of nearly 90,000 newly hired Internal Revenue Service (IRS) staff, suggesting he might 'move them to the border'.
Hours after he was handed over the presidency, the Republican leader signed an executive order to stop the hiring of all federal civilian employees until 'his Administration can determine that it is in the national interest to do so'.
Apart from the IRS, the decision is temporary for all other federal offices. He also froze funding for the Inflation Reduction Act commonly known as the bipartisan infrastructure law.
President Trump's order has since thrown the future of about 87,000 new IRS agents who had been hired for the 2022 Act into jeopardy.

The U.S. companies Lockheed Martin and Northrop Grumman, the European Space Agency, and Japan's JAXA space agency have also been investigating the technology, with the latter scheduling the launch of a small, proof-of-concept satellite this year to assess its feasibility.

🇨🇩 UN Peacekeepers Fall in Eastern DRC Conflict
At least 15 UN peacekeepers have been killed in recent clashes with rebel forces in eastern Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC), marking one of the deadliest incidents for UN forces in the region. The casualties include soldiers from South Africa, Malawi, and Uruguay, as they fought to halt the advance of the M23 rebels towards Goma.
The conflict has displaced over 237,000 people in 2025 alone, exacerbating one of the world's most severe humanitarian crises. The UN has vowed to continue critical operations, including food distribution and medical aid, despite the escalating violence.

🇺🇸🇨🇳 Trump says he wants "fairness," nuclear disarmament talks with China
US President Donald Trump said Thursday he thinks his administration will have a "very good relationship" with China and all he wants regarding trade issues with the Asian power is "fairness."
Trump also said in virtual remarks to business executives attending this year's World Economic Forum in Davos, Switzerland, that he wants to hold nuclear disarmament talks with China along with Russia.
When asked how he views the relationship between Washington and Beijing in the next four years under his leadership, Trump said, "We just want a level playing field," pointing to the massive trade deficits the United States has had with China. "We have to make it just fair. We don't have to make it phenomenal."
